The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of application of team strategies and tools to enhance performance and patient safety at primary healthcare units on patients' safety and outcomes. Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (Team STEPPS) are specially intended to enhance patient safety through effective communication and teamwork skills. To examine, a quasi-experimental (pre-posttest) design was utilized.

Aims: The mechanisms that drive breast cancer (BC) progression and poor outcome are not fully understood. The human heat shock protein 90 alpha family class A member 1 (HSP90α) encoded by the gene has a vital role in cellular responses to stress and is implicated in the development and progression of many cancers. The current study aims to explore the clinical and prognostic importance of HSP90α in BC.

Importance: There is no proven test that can guide the optimal treatment, either endocrine therapy or chemotherapy, for estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.
Objective: To investigate the associations of sperm-associated antigen 5 (SPAG5) transcript and SPAG5 protein expressions with treatment response in systemic therapy for estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.
Design, Settings, And Participants: This retrospective cohort study included patients with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer who received 5 years of adjuvant endocrine therapy with or without neoadjuvant anthracycline-based combination chemotherapy (NACT) derived from 11 cohorts from December 1, 1986, to November 28, 2019.

The absence of a robust risk stratification tool for triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) underlies imprecise and nonselective treatment of these patients with cytotoxic chemotherapy. This study aimed to interrogate transcriptomes of TNBC resected samples using next generation sequencing to identify novel biomarkers associated with disease outcomes. A subset of cases (n = 112) from a large, well-characterized cohort of primary TNBC (n = 333) were subjected to RNA-sequencing.

This study evaluated the antiplatelet effect of the plant carotenoid, astaxanthin (ASTX) in rats fed either control or high cholesterol plus cholic acid diet (HCCD) and possible underlying mechanisms. Adult male Wistar rats were divided into four groups (n = 8/each), namely, control (fed normal diet), control + ASTX (10 mg/kg/day), HCCD-fed rats, and HCCD + ASTX-treated rats. Diets and treatments were orally administered daily for 30 days.

Background: Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) is associated with the development of metastasis in invasive breast cancer (BC). However, the complex molecular mechanisms of LVI, which overlap with other oncogenic pathways, remain unclear. This study, using available large transcriptomic datasets, aims to identify genes associated with LVI in early-stage BC patients.

Background: Cytotoxic chemotherapy is generally ineffective in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. We assessed the intravenous perfusion of doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma in whom previous sorafenib therapy had failed.
Methods: We did a multicentre, open-label, randomised, controlled phase 3 trial at 70 sites in 11 countries.

Purpose: Androgen receptor (AR) and AR signaling pathways are thought to play a role in breast cancer (BC) and are potentially related to treatment responses and outcomes. Ankyrin 3 (ANK3) is associated with AR stability in cancer cells. In the present study, we investigated the clinicopathological utility of ANK3 expression with emphasis on AR and its associated signalling pathway at transcriptomic and proteomic phases.

Background: SHON nuclear expression (SHON-Nuc) was previously reported to predict clinical outcomes to tamoxifen therapy in ERα breast cancer (BC). Herein we determined if SHON expression detected by specific monoclonal antibodies could provide a more accurate prediction and serve as a biomarker for anthracycline-based combination chemotherapy (ACT).
Methods: SHON expression was determined by immunohistochemistry in the Nottingham early-stage-BC cohort (n = 1,650) who, if eligible, received adjuvant tamoxifen; the Nottingham ERα early-stage-BC (n = 697) patients who received adjuvant ACT; and the Nottingham locally advanced-BC cohort who received pre-operative ACT with/without taxanes (Neo-ACT, n = 120) and if eligible, 5-year adjuvant tamoxifen treatment.

E-cadherin is a tumor suppressor gene in invasive lobular breast cancer. However, a proportion of high-grade ductal carcinoma shows reduced/loss of E-cadherin. In this study, we assessed the underlying mechanisms and molecular implications of E-cadherin loss in invasive ductal carcinoma.

Background: Ras association and pleckstrin homology domains 1 (RAPH1) is involved in cytoskeleton regulation and re-epithelialisation in invasive carcinoma and, therefore, may play a key role in carcinogenesis and metastasis. We, herein, investigated the biological and clinical significance of RAPH1 in breast cancer using large annotated cohorts.
Methods: The clinicopathological and prognostic significance of RAPH1 was assessed at the genomic and transcriptomic levels using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset (n = 1039) and the results were validated using the Molecular taxonomy of breast cancer international consortium (METABRIC) cohort (n = 1980).

Aims: Histological grade is an independent prognostic variable in breast cancer (BC). Previous concordance studies of BC grade have reported moderate levels of agreement; a typical finding in morphological assessment of biological variables. This study aimed to investigate the impact of discordance on the prognostic value of grade and to identify the best reporting approach in borderline cases.

Background: The prognostic value of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in breast cancer (BC) has been demonstrated in several independent studies. However, identification of driver molecules for LVI remains a challenging task. Large-scale transcriptomic profiling of histologically validated LVI can potentially identify genes that regulate LVI.

Background: Chronic hepatitis C virus infection is one of the most important health problems in Egypt. The Ministry of Health's National Treatment Programme introduced sofosbuvir-based therapy in October 2014.
Aim: To assess the clinical effectiveness and predictors of response to SOF-based treatment regimens, either dual therapy, with SOF/ribavirin (RBV) for 6 months or triple therapy with SOF/peg-IFN-alfa-2a/RBV for 3 months, in a cohort of patients treated in National Treatment Programme affiliated centres in Egypt.

Aims: Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is a rare type of breast cancer; its diagnosis in routine practice can be challenging, and may require immunohistochemical (IHC) characterization if no conventional invasive or in-situ carcinoma is present. Previous IHC studies of MBC often had a small sample size and did not investigate the different histological subtypes. This study aimed to assess the immunoprofile of MBC subtypes in a large series.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic management of common bile duct (CBD) stones in a single session in comparison with two-session procedures including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). The most popular approach to treat CBD stones that were detected before LC is with ERCP followed by LC. This two-session approach has some disadvantages, which include spontaneous passage of stones found on magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography while awaiting ERCP, the risk for CBD stone passage between ERCP and LC or during LC due to excessive gallbladder handling, and the need for multiple anesthesia sessions and hospital admissions within a short interval.
