Background: Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is a highly prevalent disease that requires repeating hospitalizations, causes significant morbidity and mortality. Therefore, early recognition of poor outcome predictors is essential for patient management.

Objective: The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) detected by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and repolarization parameters such as corrected QT (QTc) interval, Tp-e interval, frontal QRS-T angle detected by 12 lead electrocardiograph (ECG) in HFrEF.

Objectives: The values of acceleration capacity and deceleration capacity are known to capture fetal neurological development. The fetal growth restriction was found to be featured by decreased variables of phase rectified signal averaging. We have speculated that acceleration capacity and deceleration capacity could be of use in the detection of antenatal fetal distress during fetal growth restriction.

It is known that the combined use of antibiotics, such as isoniazid and rifampicin, in the treatment of tuberculosis causes oxidative kidney damage. The aim of this study was to biochemically and histopathologically investigate the effect of lycopene on oxidative kidney damage due to the administration of isoniazid and rifampicin in albino Wistar male rats. Lycopene at a dose of 5 mg/kg was orally administered to lycopene+isoniazid+rifampicin (LIR) rats, and normal sunflower oil (0.

Objective: Although squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) originating from different anatomic localizations display a similar histological appearance under light microscopy, they may differ in terms of epigenetic and genetic features. The aim of this study was to analyze mir-126, mir-182, and mir-486-5p expression levels in head and neck SCCs and lung SCCs, and to identify localization-specific miRNA expression profiles.

Material And Method: The expression levels of mir-126, mir-182, and mir-486-5p were analyzed in lung, oral cavity, laryngeal, and hypopharyngeal SCCs in 40 patients, using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to demonstrate the importance of clinical diagnosis by comparing with preoperative physical examination and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images in patients who were arthroscopically diagnosed as having Superior Labrum Anterior-Posterior (SLAP) II lesions.

Materials And Methods: 134 patients, arthroscopically diagnosed as SLAP II, established the study group, and 200 patients who underwent shoulder arthroscopy for the other pathologies established the control group. Preoperative clinical examination of the patients, MRI findings, and the arthroscopic findings of the patients were recorded.

Australas J Dermatol

May 2021

Department of Dermatology, Göztepe Training and Research Hospital, Medeniyet University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Background: Eosinophils play an important role in bullous pemphigoid (BP) pathogenesis. Although tissue infiltration with eosinophils has been known for a long time, there is a lack of knowledge about the relationship between tissue eosinophil levels and disease severity and clinical characteristics of the patients.

Methods: Fifty-nine patients diagnosed with BP between January 2008 and December 2018 were reviewed.

COVID-19, adrenal gland, glucocorticoids, and adrenal insufficiency.

Mengucek Gazi Training and Research Hospital, Department of Obesity, Biochemistry, Erzincan, Turkey.

The current Coronavirus disease outbreak requires that physicians work in collaboration with other physicians especially in intensive care and emergency units. To fight against this new disease, whose pathogenesis, effects, and results have not been clearly demonstrated, especially in patients with the pre-existing chronic disease, requires special expertise and perspectives. Due to the need for dynamic glucocorticoid treatment at different stages of the disease in patients with adrenal insufficiency, the existence of reports indicating that "coronavirus disease 2019" also affects the adrenal reserve, and the use of glucocorticoids also in advanced stages in patients with Coronavirus disease require this issue to be emphasized with precision.

Objectives: This study aims to find the shortest needed time interval between two consecutive anteroposterior (AP) knee X-rays of the same patient to determine the progression of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) by a trained eye.

Patients And Methods: In this retrospective study, 2,145 AP knee X-rays of 848 primary KOA patients (331 males, 517 females; mean age 65±9 years; range, 50 to 92 years) followed-up between January 2014 and December 2017 were used. Randomly generated 1,280 pairs of knee X-rays were shown to 14 orthopedic surgeons working in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, and then the physicians were asked to select the second X-ray of the same arthritis knee.

Article Synopsis
  • Acquired perforating dermatosis (APD) is a rare skin disorder where connective tissue is eliminated through the skin, with most patients diagnosed with reactive perforating collagenosis (RPC).
  • A study of 80 APD patients revealed a higher prevalence of diabetes and a troubling mortality rate, as 23.8% of patients died during the follow-up period.
  • The comorbidity rate was notably higher in the RPC subgroup compared to perforating folliculitis, indicating a need for thorough evaluations of underlying health issues in patients with RPC.

Evaluation of Hepatic Steatosis with CT and Correlation with Anthropometric Measurements.

Curr Med Imaging

June 2021

Department of Radiology, Erzincan Binali Yildirim University, Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital, Erzincan 24100, Turkey.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate hepatic steatosis in an asymptomatic group of patients with unenhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) and to compare the results with anthropometric measurements.

Methods: The study included 617 patients aged 18-93 years, who underwent unenhanced abdominopelvic CT between January 2016 and December 2017. Three imaging criteria were used in the assessment of hepatic steatosis on CT: mean region of interest (ROI) value of measured liver lobe (40 HU ≥), mean ROI value of measured liver lobe / measured spleen mean ROI value (1 ≥), mean ROI value of measured liver lobe - mean ROI value of spleen (10 HU≥).
