The primary sources of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that cause ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injuries are enzymes xanthine oxidase (XO) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidases (NOXs) in the literature, whereby one of the main ROS producing cells via NOX activity are polymophonuclear leukocytes (PNL). Sugammadex, the effect of which we plan to research against gastric I/R damage, is a modified gamma-cyclodextrin that antagonizes the action of steroidal neuromuscular blocking drugs. Previous studies have reported that sugammadex inhibits PNL infiltration.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a complicated, globally expanding disease that is influenced by hereditary and environmental variables. Changes in modern society's food choices, physical inactivity, and obesity are significant factors in the development of type 2 DM (T2DM). The association between changes in intestinal flora and numerous disorders, including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, has been studied in recent years.

Article Synopsis
  • Diseases, like cutaneous warts, can negatively impact sleep quality, which in turn may influence the immune system and disease progression.
  • A study evaluated the sleep quality of 138 patients with cutaneous warts using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and found significantly poorer sleep quality compared to healthy controls, especially in those with genital warts.
  • The results suggest that assessing and managing sleep quality in patients with warts, particularly genital warts, could improve their overall quality of life and management of the disease.

Aim: We aimed to investigate the preventive effects of carvacrol against ketamine-induced cardiotoxicity biochemically and histopathologically in an experimental model.

Material And Method: The rats were divided into three groups; healthy control (HC), ketamine alone (KG), and ketamine + carvacrol (KCG) groups. Serum Creatine Kinase Myocardial Band (CK-MB) and Troponin I (TP I) levels were determined.

What Is Known And Objective: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a disorder that is commonly seen in patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and has a detrimental impact on the patients' clinical prognosis. Although a variety of factors contribute to the development of AKI in patients, drug-induced AKI is a common occurrence in the ICU. With the widespread availability of clinical pharmacy services, the clinical pharmacist's consultation service to the healthcare team aids in the resolution of drug-related issues and the enhancement of therapeutic outcomes.

Purpose: Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that specifically binds to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Cutaneous side effects of bevacizumab are seen with substantial frequency and may require the interruption of the treatment. The aim of the study was to conduct a biochemical and histopathological investigation of the effects of carvacrol against the possible oxidative skin damage caused by bevacizumab in rats.

Background: Acute cardiac contusion induced by trauma is known with its high mortality and morbidity. The role of oxidative stress and inflammation in its pathophysiology has led to the investigation of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substances in non-sur-gical treatment. In this study, the effects of rutin which has these two features on acute cardiac contusion were investigated.

Negative-pressure pulmonary edema (NPPE) is a rare but life-threatening postoperative complication that occurs due to the acute obstruction of the upper airway. In our case report, we present a 25-year-old female patient who underwent elective mammoplasty under general anesthesia and developed NPPE 4 hours after extubation. The patient had a preoperative mallampati score of 3.

Nutritional Support in Older Patients with Esophageal Cancer Undergoing Chemoradiotherapy.

Nutr Cancer

September 2022

Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Health Science Faculty, Baskent University, Ankara, Turkey.

Esophageal cancer (EC) is the eighth most prevalent malignancy and the sixth leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. The proportion of older adults with EC has increased dramatically in recent decades due to increased life expectancy. Older patients with EC are at a highest risk of malnutrition and this predicts early death.

The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which affects millions of people around the world, has been affecting our country since March 2020. The fact that the symptoms such as fever, myalgia, headache, joint pain which are common in COVID-19 patients are quite similar to the symptoms of diseases such as Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) and Brucellosis. This may cause a diagnostic confusion in regions where these diseases are seen as endemic.

Background: In the literature, it has been suggested that ketamine-related oxidative organ damage results from increased blood adrenaline level, and thiopental-related oxidative damage is caused by decreased adrenaline level, suggesting that ketamine-thiopental combination (KT) may be beneficial in reducing the hepatotoxic effect of ketamine.

Objectives: To biochemically investigate the effects of ketamine, thiopental and KT on the liver in rats.

Material And Methods: Male albino Wistar type rats received intraperitoneally (ip.

Article Synopsis
  • Appendiceal neoplasms are rare tumors found in the appendix, often discovered accidentally when doctors look at removed tissue.
  • A study looked at 1280 cases from surgeries between 2013 and 2018 and found tumors in 28 of them, mostly in the distal (far) part of the appendix.
  • To avoid missing these tumors, doctors should examine the entire distal part of the appendix, as only checking one side might lead to some tumors not being found.

The study was conducted with patients diagnosed with CCHF in five different centers where the disease was encountered most commonly. Patients having proven PCR and/or IgM positivity for CCHF were included in the study.
