Background: Heart rate (HR) recovery (HRR) reflects autonomic activity and predicts cardiovascular events. The aim of this study was to assess HRR in patients with myocardial bridge (MB).

Methods: Medical recordings of 93 patients with MB and appropriate age, compared to 78 sex-matched healthy subjects were analyzed.

Aims: Data mining is the computational process to obtain information from a data set and transform it for further use. Herein, through data mining with supportive statistical analyses, we identified and consolidated variables of the Flecainide Short-Long (Flec-SL-AFNET 3) trial dataset that are associated with the primary outcome of the trial, recurrence of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) or death.

Methods And Results: The 'Ranking Instances by Maximizing the Area under the ROC Curve' (RIMARC) algorithm was applied to build a classifier that can predict the primary outcome by using variables in the Flec-SL dataset.

Objective: Dynamic pupillometry (DP) is a simple, non-invasive computerized assessment of pupillary light response which provides data concerning both branches of the autonomous nervous system (ANS). Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis assess cardiac health and the ANS modulation on the heart. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the utility of DP as a predictor of cardiac autonomic activity assessed by HRV.

Background: Ventricular arrhythmias can be seen in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients and are thought to be a result of fibrosis or ischemia of the ventricular myocardium. Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QT ratio are electrocardiographic (ECG) indices to predict ventricular tachyarrhythmia and cardiovascular mortality. We aimed to evaluate Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QT ratio in patients with SSc.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of a new reconstruction with anconeus interposition arthroplasty in acute multiligamentous elbow injuries with irreparable radial head fractures.

Methods: Five patients (3 males, 2 females) with a mean age of 42.6 years who underwent reconstruction with anconeus arhtroplasty were evaluated.

Objective: Dynamic pupillometry (DP) is a simple, non-invasive computerized technique for assessment of pupillary light response which provides data concerning the balance of both branches of the autonomous nervous system (ANS). Heart rate (HR) recovery (HRR) after graded exercise reflects cardiac autonomic activity and predicts cardiovascular events. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the utility of DP as a predictor of cardiac autonomic activity assessed by HRR.

P-wave dispersion: What we know till now?

JRSM Cardiovasc Dis

April 2016

Department of Cardiology, Memorial Ankara Hospital, Ankara, Turkey.

P-wave dispersion is defined as the difference between the maximum and the minimum P-wave duration recorded from multiple different-surface ECG leads. It has been known that increased P-wave duration and P-wave dispersion reflect prolongation of intraatrial and interatrial conduction time and the inhomogeneous propagation of sinus impulses, which are well-known electrophysiologic characteristics in patients with atrial arrhythmias and especially paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Extensive clinical evaluation of P-wave dispersion has been performed in the assessment of the risk for atrial fibrillation in patients without apparent heart disease, in hypertensives, in patients with coronary artery disease, in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery, in patients with congenital heart diseases, as well as in other groups of patients suffering from various cardiac or non-cardiac diseases.

Objective: Aortic regurgitation, conduction disturbances, increased myocardial fibrosis and pericarditis could be seen in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). However, less attention has been paid to supraventricular arrhythmias (SVA) and atrial conduction system changes. We aimed to assess SVA and conduction system changes in patients with AS.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is defined as myocardial hypertrophy in the absence of another cardiac or systemic disease capable of producing the magnitude of present hypertrophy. In about 70% of patients with HCM, there is left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction (LVOTO) and this is known as obstructive type of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HOCM). Cases refractory to medical treatment have had two options either surgical septal myectomy or alcohol septal ablation (ASA) to alleviate LVOT gradient.

Introduction: We evaluated and compared the serum oxidative stress and antioxidant enzymes in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and the control group.

Material And Methods: The prospective study consisted of 97 patients with RCC (Group 1) and 80 age and sex matched healthy volunteers (Group 2). Group 1 and 2 were compared concerning serum mean total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), paraoxonase-1 (PON-1), arylesterase, total thiol, catalase (CAT), myeloperoxidase (MPO) and ceruloplasmin.

Article Synopsis
  • Atrial fibrillation (AF) affects at least 30 million people globally and is associated with significant health risks like strokes, heart failure, and high mortality rates, even with existing treatments.
  • There is a critical need to improve preventive measures and identify treatable causes of AF, as many cases remain undiagnosed or poorly managed.
  • The fifth Atrial Fibrillation Network conference focused on enhancing AF care through collaboration, patient-centered approaches, structured management, quality improvement, and personalized treatment plans, alongside outlining key research priorities for AF.

Objective: The tumour-node-metastasis staging system has a dynamic structure that is continuously being updated as scientific data develops. This review discusses some suggested revisions on tumour-node-metastasis staging of human papillomavirus negative upper aerodigestive tract cancers.

Methods: The seventh edition of The American Joint Committee on Cancer Staging Manual was reviewed and important issues that could be considered for revision were identified and discussed.

Objective: Articular penetration of K-wires is a possible complication of the modified tension band wiring technique. However, there is no clear information or evidence regarding the entry point or introduction angle for K-wires to avoid this complication. The aim of this experimental study was to evaluate the effect of varying K-wire insertion points and angles on the risk for articular penetration during modified tension band wiring for olecranon fractures.

The focus of this study was to investigate anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) expression by immunohistochemistry using a highly specific antibody. Distribution and frequency of ALK expression may provide a clue for ALK inhibitor use in small round cell tumors of childhood. The study group involved 76 small round cell tumors of childhood, which composed of 11 rhabdomyosarcomas, 13 Wilms tumors, 7 Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumors, 34 peripheral neuroblastic tumors, and 11 acute lymphoblastic lymphoma.

Use of the operative microscope marked a new era for microsurgery in male infertility and andrology in the 1970s. More than a decade has passed since the initial description of the first robotic-assisted microsurgical vasovasostomy. Large single-center series have recently been published on robotic-assisted microsurgery for vasectomy reversal, especially in the past few years.
