Sclerosing polycystic adenosis (SPA) is a rare benign salivary gland lesion. Dysgenetic polycystic disease (DPD), which is a histologically similar lesion, may cause a lattice-like gross appearance with bilateral enlargement of the entire salivary glands. In this report, we present a case of SPA in the right parotid and coexistent DPD involving the both parotid.

Atrial fibrillation and acute heart failure frequently co-exist and can exacerbate each other. Their combination leads to increased morbidity and mortality. However, the prevalence and significance, as well as the treatment, of atrial fibrillation in acute heart failure are not well studied.

Purpose: Perianal fistula is an important health problem with devastating morbidity. For diagnosis and prevention of recurrence, perianal fistula imaging (PFI) is crucial. The aim of this study was to investigate if a Flex-M superficial coil images would provide more information than images obtained with a phased-array body coil in PFI.

Aims: Most clinical risk stratification models are based on measurement at a single time-point rather than serial measurements. Artificial intelligence (AI) is able to predict one-dimensional outcomes from multi-dimensional datasets. Using data from Global Anticoagulant Registry in the Field (GARFIELD)-AF registry, a new AI model was developed for predicting clinical outcomes in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients up to 1 year based on sequential measures of prothrombin time international normalized ratio (PT-INR) within 30 days of enrolment.

Background: Angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitors (ARNI; sacubitril/valsartan combination) decrease morbidity and mortality in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Increased P‑wave duration and P‑wave dispersion (P) reflect prolongation of atrial conduction and correlate with atrial fibrillation. Here, we aimed to assess the effects of switching from valsartan to ARNI treatment on the basis of P‑wave indices.

Supraventricular arrhythmias are frequent, and symptomatic patients often need medical therapy or catheter ablation. The recently published 2019 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Guidelines for the management of patients with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) give a comprehensive overview of current developments in the field and provides recommendations for the management of adults with SVT. In this paper, we briefly summarized major new recommendations and significant changes from the former ESC guideline published 16 years ago.

Energy drinks are increasingly used by young people and young athletes in order to improve their performance alone or in association of other substances, particularly alcohol. In recent years, a number of reports of reports have raised attention on the side-effects associated with the use or abuse of energy drinks particularly serious cardiovascular events. The European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society (ECAS) has undertaken a systematic and critical review of reported data on cardiovascular events including life-threatening arrhythmias with or without cardiac arrest and other cardiovascular events, and discussed in this review the possible causal effect of caffeine and other ingredients contained in energy drinks and the reported events.

Arkansas Heart Hospital, 1701 South Shackleford Rd., Little Rock US-AR 72211, United States of America; Bahcesehir University, School of Medicine, Yıldız Mh., Çırağan Cd., 34349 Istanbul, Turkey.

Purpose: Zilver PTX nitinol self-expanding drug-eluting stent with paclitaxel coating is effective for treatment of superficial femoral artery (SFA) disease. However, as with any stent, it induces a measure of vascular inflammatory response. The current clinical trial (NCT02734836) aimed to assess vascular patency, remodeling, and inflammatory markers with intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) in patients with SFA disease treated with Zilver PTX stents.

Article Synopsis
  • Anorectal sepsis often starts with anal abscesses that can lead to fistulas, commonly arising from cryptoglandular issues or inflammatory bowel diseases.
  • A 32-year-old male experienced severe anal pain after undergoing leech therapy for hemorrhoidal swelling, resulting in an abscess that was successfully drained at a Proctology Unit.
  • Post-treatment, the patient healed well and remained symptom-free for six months, highlighting the need to critically evaluate modern medical practices that permit non-scientific treatments like leech therapy without proven efficacy.

Background: Copeptin is widely used as a predictor of an adverse prognosis in many clinical conditions. Reduced antegrade coronary flow in an infarct-related artery (IRA) is associated with adverse clinical outcomes in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The aim of this study was to investigate whether copeptin level on admission was associated with IRA patency in STEMI patients.

Paravalvular leak (PVL) is an important complication after surgical valve replacement and might lead to serious clinical results, including heart failure and/or hemolytic anemia. PVLs are the result of an incomplete seal between the sewing ring and annulus. It frequently affects surgical valves in the mitral position, occurring in 5% to 15% of valve replacements.

Successful WATCHMAN Device Implantation in a Patient with IVC Filter Thrombosis and Iliac Vein Occlusions.

Cardiovasc Revasc Med

Bahcesehir University, School of Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey; Arkansas Heart Hospital, Little Rock, AR, United States of America. Electronic address:

Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion has been shown to be a safe and cost-effective treatment for stroke prevention in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation with increased stroke and bleeding risk. Venous system might be occluded from prior procedures or have structural abnormalities. Herein, we present a successful WATCHMAN device implantation in a patient with inferior vena cava filter thrombosis and iliac vein occlusions.

Unlabelled: The corner stone of atrial fibrillation therapy includes the prevention of stroke with less adverse effects. The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) study provided data to compare treatment strategies in Turkey with other populations and every-day practice of stroke prevention management with complications.

Methods: GARFIELD-AF is a large-scale registry that enrolled 52,014 patients in five sequential cohorts at >1,000 centers in 35 countries.

Background: Lead exposure causes a wide range of vascular diseases through oxidative stress, sympathetic hyperactivity and impairment in nitric oxide bioavailability. In this study, the association between the effects of lead exposure on left ventricular diastolic indices and erectile function were assessed.

Methods: A total of 94 lead-exposed workers without known cardiovascular diseases or risk factors and 30 healthy subjects were enrolled.

Angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI, sacubitril/valsartan) reduces sudden death in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Corrected QT (QTc), T-wave peak to T-wave end interval (Tp-e) and Tp-e/QTc are electrocardiographic indices of ventricular repolarization heterogeneity. We aimed to assess the effects of switching from ramipril to ARNI on electrocardiographic indices of ventricular repolarization.

Purpose: The objectives of this study were to: (i) evaluate endothelial function via fingertip reactive hyperemia peripheral arterial tonometry (RH-PAT) among heart failure (HF) patients receiving cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), (ii) assess the effects of CRT on RH-PAT score, and (iii) investigate whether RH-PAT score can identify CRT response.

Methods: A total of 63 patients (61.8 ± 10.
