Multispectral autofluorescence lifetime imaging systems have recently been developed to quickly and non-invasively assess tissue properties for applications in oral cancer diagnosis. As a non-traditional imaging modality, the autofluorescence signal collected from the system cannot be directly visually assessed by a clinician and a model is needed to generate a diagnosis for each image. However, training a deep learning model from scratch on small multispectral autofluorescence datasets can fail due to inter-patient variability, poor initialization, and overfitting.

Background: Longitudinal tracking of multiple sclerosis (MS) symptoms in an individual's own environment may improve self-monitoring and clinical management for people with MS (pwMS).
Objective: We present a machine learning approach that enables longitudinal monitoring of clinically relevant patient-reported symptoms for pwMS by harnessing passively collected data from sensors in smartphones and fitness trackers.

We demonstrate an approach to creating nanoscale potentials in van der Waals layers integrated with a buried programmable ferroelectric layer. Using ultra-low-voltage electron beam lithography (ULV-EBL), we can program the ferroelectric polarization in AlBN (AlBN) thin films, generating structures with sizes as small as 35 nm. We demonstrate the ferroelectric field effect with a graphene/vdW stack on AlBN by creating a p-n junction.

Multimodal late fusion is a well-performing fusion method that sums the outputs of separately processed modalities, so-called modality contributions, to create a prediction; for example, summing contributions from vision, acoustic, and language to predict affective states. In this paper, our primary goal is to improve the interpretability of what modalities contribute to the prediction in late fusion models. More specifically, we want to factorize modality contributions into what is consistently shared by at least two modalities (pairwise redundant contributions) and what the remaining modality-specific contributions are (unique contributions).

Test of independence is of fundamental importance in modern data analysis, with broad applications in variable selection, graphical models, and causal inference. When the data is high dimensional and the potential dependence signal is sparse, independence testing becomes very challenging without distributional or structural assumptions. In this paper, we propose a general framework for independence testing by first fitting a classifier that distinguishes the joint and product distributions, and then testing the significance of the fitted classifier.

Tactile feedback from brain-controlled bionic hands can be partially restored via intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) of the primary somatosensory cortex. In ICMS, the location of percepts depends on the electrode's location and the percept intensity depends on the stimulation frequency and amplitude. Sensors on a bionic hand can thus be linked to somatotopically appropriate electrodes, and the contact force of each sensor can be used to determine the amplitude of a stimulus.

Cerebral Microbleeds (CMBs) are chronic deposits of small blood products in the brain tissues, which have explicit relation to various cerebrovascular diseases depending on their anatomical location, including cognitive decline, intracerebral hemorrhage, and cerebral infarction.
