Background: SARS-CoV-2 responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, infiltrates the human body by binding to the ACE2 receptor in the respiratory system cell membranes, leading to severe lung tissue damage. An analog of ACE2, ACE1, has gained attention due to its well-known Deletion/Insertion (D/I) polymorphism, which seems to be associated with COVID-19 outcomes. This study aims to reveal the allelic and genotypic frequencies of the rs4646994 polymorphism in the Moroccan population and investigate the association between COVID-19 outcomes and both genotypic and demographic data.

Newborn Screening for Six Primary Conditions in a Clinical Setting in Morocco.

Int J Neonatal Screen

December 2024

Laboratory of Genomic, Epigenetics, Precision and Predictive Medicine, School of Medicine, Mohammed VI University of Sciences and Health, Casablanca 82403, Morocco.

Unlabelled: Newborn screening (NBS) represents an important public health measure for the early detection of specified disorders; such screening can prevent disability and death, not only from metabolic disorders but also from endocrine, hematologic, immune, and cardiac disorders. Screening for critical congenital conditions affecting newborns' health is a great challenge, especially in developing countries such as Morocco, where NBS program infrastructure is lacking. In addition, the consanguinity rate is high in Morocco.

The title mol-ecule, CHBrNO, adopts a cup shaped conformation with the distinctly ruffled imidazolidine ring as the base. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯π(ring) inter-actions form helical chains of mol-ecules extending along the -axis direction that are linked by additional weak C-H⋯π(ring) inter-actions across inversion centres. The Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (51.
