Objectives: The gait characteristics of people with bilateral transtibial amputation are not well understood. This study aimed to clarify changes in trunk lateral bending and the trunk flexion angle during walking in people with bilateral transtibial amputation.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, four participants with bilateral transtibial amputation who could walk without assistance (BTTA group) and ten able-bodied participants (control group) were recruited.

Objective: This study investigated the association between receiving off-the-job training and the involvement of public health nurses in local healthcare planning.

Design: A nationwide, cross-sectional study design.

Methods: We sent self-report questionnaires to 2,185 public health nurses with experience in developing local healthcare plans in Japan since 2013 and collected information related to three main categories: demographic data, involvement in local healthcare planning and strategies for healthcare planning.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of sarcopenia and factors associated with sarcopenia in patients with dizziness.

Study Design: This is a cross-sectional study.

Patients: A total of 162 patients 65 years or older with the chief complaint of dizziness or vertigo (dizziness group) and 132 community-dwelling elderly (control group) were recruited during their visit to the otolaryngology clinic between May 2020 and October 2021.

Criminal mutilation homicides in Japan: Corpse dismemberment and disposal pattern types, and offender characteristics.

This study examined the offender characteristics of criminal mutilation homicides in Japan for offender profiling. The current sample (N = 108) showed that the most typical offender was a male, in his 30s (age that observed most often), one-person, and acquainted with the victim. This study highlighted that the cases of mutilation homicide differed in comparison with the regular homicide group in terms of the victim-offender (VO) relationship and the number of offenders.

Efficacy of supervised vestibular rehabilitation on functional mobility in patients with chronic vestibular hypofunction.

[Purpose] This study aimed to compare the effects of different intervention frequencies on walking ability and balance in patients with chronic unilateral vestibular hypofunction. [Participants and Methods] Participants included in this case-control study were assigned to one of two groups: the multiple-intervention (once a week) and single-intervention groups. A study on how concurrent visual feedback affects motor learning of adjustability of grasping force in younger and older adults.

In this study, we investigated the differences of the effectiveness from concurrent visual feedback among younger and older adults in learning tasks that require adjustability of grasping force (AGF), as well as the functions related to AGF in each generation. The younger and older adult groups were evaluated for simple visual reaction time as visual-motor speed (VMS) and a 100 g AGF task that reflected the difference between desired performance and actual performance. The main learning task was then practiced using concurrent visual feedback and tested without feedback.

Effect of a Mindfulness-Based Intervention on Self-Compassionate Behaviors: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Self-compassion is regarded as a mediating or moderating variable in mindfulness-based interventions (MBI). However, few studies have investigated the role of self-compassion on MBI. Therefore, we conducted a randomized controlled trial to examine whether (1) MBI decreases depression and trait anxiety, while increasing trait mindfulness, trait self-compassion, self-compassionate behaviors (SC behaviors), mindful behaviors, and mood after behaviors; and (2) SC behaviors moderate the effect of mindful behaviors on mood in daily life.

Feasibility of an educational program for public health nurses to promote local healthcare planning: protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial.

Background: Promoting of local healthcare planning is crucial for assisting public health nurses in improving community health inequities. However, there is no effective educational program for developing relevant skills and knowledge among these nurses.
