Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) is a rare disease with a myriad of presentations. In this case series of four patients from South India, we describe three classical manifestations of the disease (mucosal, muscular, and serosal). Two of them had obstructive jaundice as a presenting complaint due to duodenal obstruction, whereas one had massive upper gastrointestinal bleed.

Vibrio is heterotrophic ubiquitous marine bacteria that plays dual role as putative halobiont and potential pathogen. Environment and diseases are inextricable hence the role of vibrio as a potential pathogen in the natural environment must be comprehended. Hence the present study aims at investigating the pathogenicity of Vibrio owensii on the post larvae of Litopenaeus vannamei.

The current study focuses on developing a tumour-targeted functionalised nanocarrier that wraps hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles. The guanidine carbonate and curcumin are immobilised on the surface of 3-aminopropyl-triethoxy silane (APTES)-decorated hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSNP), as confirmed through XPS and NMR analysis. XPS analysis demonstrates that the shape of the hysteresis loops is modified and that pore volume and pore diameter are consequently decreased compared to control.

The main aims in the development of a novel drug delivery vehicle is to efficiently carry therapeutic drugs in the body's circulatory system and successfully deliver them to the targeted site as needed to safely achieve the desired therapeutic effect. In the present study, a passive targeted functionalised nanocarrier was fabricated or wrapped the hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles with 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) to prepare APTES-coated hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSNAP). A nitrogen sorption analysis confirmed that the shape of hysteresis loops is altered, and subsequently the pore volume and pore diameters of GaC-HMSNAP was reduced by around 56 and 37%, respectively, when compared with HMSNAP.

Intraoperative injuries to the ureter can occur in complicated colorectal and gynaecologic procedures in minimal access surgery. The majority of these go unrecognised at the time of the operation, which can be disastrous to the patient. The routine use of ureteric stents is controversial, with some studies showing that stents only enable detection of ureteric injury but do not prevent it.

Tunneled hemodialysis catheters are the lifeline to patients on maintenance hemodialysis with failed arteriovenous fistulas. However, thrombosis and infection are the main causes of reduced longevity of these accesses. According to IDSA guidelines, catheter-related infection with Pseudomonas and fungi are absolute indications for catheter removal.

Unlabelled: COVID-19 is a multifaceted infectious disease. The development of hypoxemic respiratory failure is not uncommon during the course of illness in some of them. The objectives of the present study were to assess the effect of the addition of a surgical face mask while delivering oxygen via nasal cannula in hypoxemic COVID-19 patients and highlight on the advantages and patient's comforts.

Background: Phenytoin is the most commonly reported aromatic Anti-Epileptic Drug (AED) to cause Cutaneous Adverse Drug Reactions (CADRs). Cutaneous adverse drug reactions may be immune or non-immune mediated. It has been observed that predisposition is multifactorial and that gene mutations alone cannot be the cause.

Background: Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a dreaded complication of Covid-19 infection with high morbidity and mortality. Limited data exists on Indian experience. In a tertiary care hospital situated in South India, we analysed the incidence, clinical profile and outcomes of patients diagnosed with AKI due to COVID-19.

Phenytoin (PHT) is one of the most commonly reported aromatic anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) to cause cutaneous adverse reactions (CADRs), particularly severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs). Although human leukocyte antigen is associated with PHT-induced Steven Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrosis (SJS/TEN) in East Asians, the association is much weaker than it is reported for carbamazepine (CBZ). In this study, we investigated the association of pharmacogenetic variants of the HLA B gene and with PHT-CADRs in South Indian epileptic patients.

Background And Aim: Though rodenticidal hepatotoxicity is reported from India, there is no systematic study to assess its magnitude. This study aimed to assess exposure to rodenticide as a risk factor for acute hepatotoxicity in Tamil Nadu, India.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed acute hepatotoxicity caused by ingestion of hepatotoxin or potentially hepatotoxic drug overdose across 15 hospitals in 6 districts of Tamil Nadu from 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2019.

Several commercial test kits such as Microtox, LUMIStox, ToxAlert, Aboatox, and ToxScreen have been widely used for toxicity screening. Though this time saving assays offer excellent sensitivity, cost-effectiveness, and accuracy, these commercial assays are limited in terms of real-time monitoring in Indian coastal environment due to warmer temperatures. This necessitates the need to develop a rapid and accurate assay that can be effectively employed for real time monitoring with respect to heavy metals in the Indian coastal waters.

There has been a reduction in the reported cases of acute myocardial infarction (MI) across the globe during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) (severe acute respiratory distress syndrome coronavirus 2). An attempt was made to find out the number of acute MI cases treated during the COVID-19 lockdown period (April 2020) and highlight the possible reasons for the changes in the occurrence. A multicentric retrospective observational study was performed to collect the selected data from 12 private hospitals distributed in 4 cities-Madurai, Trichy (Thiruchirapalli), Erode, and Salem-of the Tamil Nadu state in southern India.

Background: The 90-day BCR-ABL1 (breakpoint cluster region-Abelson 1) level has been one of the accepted milestones for predicting the molecular response in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). The rate of decline in BCR-ABL1 has been considered a better predictor of the response but has not been uniformly accepted. A paucity of evidence is available to predict the accuracy of the rate of decline in the Indian context.
