Minimalist Approach for HoLEP with A Low-Power Holmium Source: A Retrospective Study.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy and safety of very low-power Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) on a 30-W holmium laser source.

Materials And Methods:   With the approval of the local ethics committee, we retrospectively analysed 60 patients treated with HoLEP. There were 30 patients in the low-power (LP) group and 30 patients in the very low-power (VLP) group.

Treatment of women with generalized anxiety disorder during the postpartum period with paroxetine: A retrospective analysis of 11 years of clinical data.

We presented the results on the efficacy of paroxetine in postpartum women with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in current study. We included data on 33 patients to our study retrospectively. The patients were evaluated using the Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-, the Clinical Global Impression-Improvement Scale, the Hamilton Depression rating Scale (HAM-D) and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HAM-A).

Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Receptor and Estrogen Receptor Gene Polymorphisms in Women With Discordant Follicle-Stimulating Hormone and Anti-Mullerian Hormone Levels.

Objective This study aimed to investigate follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) polymorphisms (Thr307Ala and Asn680Ser), estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) polymorphisms (PvuII and XbaI), and ESR2 polymorphisms (RsaI and AluI) in Turkish women with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) discordance. Method Genotyping was performed in 60 patients aged 21-35 with FSH-AMH discordance and/or low ovarian reserve and 20 age-matched controls with normal FSH and AMH levels. The patients were investigated in four groups of 20 women according to their FSH and AMH levels.

Evaluation of neutrophil HDL-C ratio - a new inflammation marker in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global disease estimated to affect one-third of the world's population. NAFLD is the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome. In recent years, formulations have been made using haematological laboratory parameters, and it has been reported to be associated with inflammation and fibrosis in the liver.

Evaluation of Laboratory Follow-up in Acne Patients Treated With Isotretinoin.

There is a lack of consensus of the frequency of follow-up of laboratory parameters during isotretinoin treatment. We conducted a retrospective analysis of the changes in laboratory parameters used in daily practice for patients with acne who were treated with isotretinoin to determine the optimum test repetition frequency. Patient demographic data; cumulative isotretinoin doses; alanin transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT), creatinine kinase (CK), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglyceride (TG) levels during treatment were recorded.

Evaluation of Temporomandibular Joint in Patients with Parkinson's Disease: A Comparative Study.

(1) The aim of this study was to perform an evaluation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and present the morphological differences of the TMJ between healthy subjects and patients with PD. (2) A total of 102 Caucasian subjects were divided equally into two groups. The study group consisted of patients with PD, while the control group comprised healthy subjects.

Carbapenem-Resistant Infection and Its Risk Factors in Older Adult Patients.

Introduction: Carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) infection has recently gained worldwide interest due to limited treatment options and high morbidity and mortality rates. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors of carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) infection in older adult patients.

Material And Methods: This retrospective, single-center study included 132 patients with healthcare-associated CRKP infection (case group) and 150 patients with healthcare-associated carbapenem-susceptible (CSKP) infection (control group), aged > 65 years.

Increased expression of ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase L1 in astrocytomas of ascending grades.

Background: The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway controls the monitoring and degradation of important proteins and is involved in several cellular processes, such as development, differentiation, and transcriptional regulation. Recent evidence has shown that ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase-L1 (UCH-L1), a member of the deubiquitinating enzyme family that removes ubiquitin from protein substrates, is overexpressed in many types of cancer.

Aim: This study thus examined the expression of UCH-L1 in human astrocytoma tissues.

Objectives: The objective was to identify the fetal hippocampus and fornix using 2D and to measure the C-shaped length of fornix and hippocampus.

Methods: This study was designed in cross-section. Healthy singleton and between 18 and 24 weeks of gestation pregnant women who applied to the perinatology outpatient clinic for second-level ultrasound scanning between December 2022 and February 2023 were included in the study.

Fusiform Anastomosis Technique with a Single Longitudinal Incision in the Lacrimal Sac in External Dacryocystorhinostomy.

Background: In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the surgical outcomes of the fusiform anastomosis technique in external dacryocystorhinostomy (ex-DCR) that we designed in the form of a physiological tube, which sufficiently covered the bone ostium with the mucosa.

Material And Methods: This was a retrospective observational study that included 145 eyes of 131 patients who underwent ex-DCR due to nasolacrimal duct obstruction. The patients were divided into two groups.

Distal transradial versus conventional transradial access in acute coronary syndrome.

Objective: Distal transradial access (TRA) has been recently introduced as an alternative access site for coronary angiography (CAG). Both procedures can be performed in cardiology clinics by interventional cardiologists. Although distal TRA is considered to be more difficult as it requires artery puncture and experienced cardiologists, it seems to be more advantageous because of the limited risk of arterial occlusion.

Early neonatal outcomes of very-low-birth-weight infants in Turkey: A prospective multicenter study of the Turkish Neonatal Society.

Objective: To investigate the early neonatal outcomes of very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants discharged home from neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in Turkey.

Material And Methods: A prospective cohort study was performed between April 1, 2016 and April 30, 2017. The study included VLBW infants admitted to level III NICUs.

Neuroprotective Effects of Tocilizumab on Experimentally-Induced Spinal Cord Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate neuroprotective effects of tocilizumab on spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. Our study design was an experimental rabbit spinal cord I/R injury model, and the setting was at the Animal Research Laboratory, Necmettin Erbakan University, Meram School of Medicine, Konya, Turkey.

Methods: Twenty-four adult New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups: Group 1, control group (n = 8); Group 2, I/R group, and Group 3 (n = 8) I/R injury + tocilizumab (4 mg/kg, ip) treatment group.

Spontaneous Resolution of an Orbital Mass After Delivery: A Diagnostic Challenge.

The authors report a 35-year-old woman who presented 1 month after delivery with the complaint of pain behind her left eye which started during her pregnancy. The patient described increased fullness with dependent head position and pain on left gaze but she had no proptosis and her ocular examination was normal. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an intraconal mass with inhomogeneous contrast enhancement.

Reevaluation of Mandibular Morphometry According to Age, Gender, and Side.

Aim: This study aims to reevaluation the linear and angular measurements of mandibles with multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) that is a new method and used frequently in recent years.

Materials And Methods: The archived MDCT images of 100 adult patients (age range, 15-74 years) without mandibular operation and trauma history were evaluated retrospectively. Mandibular ramus heights, maximal mandibular length, mandibular symphysis height, mandibular angles, and mandibular foramen distance measurements were performed on MDCT images.

Uvula Abscess in a Newborn Infant.

Abscesses can be found in several places in the oral cavity, most commonly occurring in peritonsillar and periodontal regions. In this report, the authors described a uvula abscess in a 1-month-old term newborn who was brought to the pediatric outpatient clinic with the complaints of difficulty in sucking-swallowing and refusal to suck at the breast. To the best of the authors' knowledge this is the first report of a uvula abscess in the literature.

Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio: A New Factor for Predicting Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome after Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy.

Purpose: The first purpose of this study was to reveal factors affecting the postoperative development of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in patients undergoing standard percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) for renal stones. The second purpose was to determine the role of the preoperative platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in the prediction of SIRS.Matarials and Methods: In total, 192 patients who had undergone conventional PNL for renal stones from 2013 to 2015 were included in the study.

Serum Toll-Like Receptor-2, Toll-Like Receptor-4 Levels in Patients with HBeAg-Negative Chronic Viral Hepatitis B.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) may play an important role in hepatitis-B pathogenesis. However, serum TLR-2 and TLR-4 levels and their association with serum liver enzymes, hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA, quantitative HBsAg levels, and liver biopsy findings, are unknown. A total of naive 40 HBeAg (-) chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients and 20 healthy control subjects were recruited in this study.

Does laparoscopic transperitoneal simple nephrectomy for inflammatory and non-inflammatory kidneys differ?

Background: Laparoscopic simple nephrectomy is the standard procedure for the removal of non-functioning benign kidney. It can be performed transperitoneally or retroperitoneally. There are several studies comparing the results of transperitoneally or retroperitoneally laparoscopic nephrectomy but there are limited numbers of study comparing results of laparoscopic transperitoneal simple nephrectomy in non-inflammatory and inflammatory non-functioning kidneys.

External Comparison of Recent Predictive Nomograms for Stone-Free Rate Using Retrograde Flexible Ureteroscopy with Laser Lithotripsy.

Objective: To assess and compare the applicability of the Resorlu-Unsal Stone Score (RUSS) and the Modified Seoul National University Renal Stone Complexity (S-ReSC) score for flexible ureterorenoscopy (f-URS).

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the hospital files of 719 patients who had been treated with f-URS for kidney stone at two referral centers between July 2012 and December 2015. The RUSS and Modified S-ReSC scores were calculated by the same surgeon for each patient by using imaging methods and were compared as to their predictive capability for postoperative success.
