Background: Several appendiceal stump closure tecniques such as intracorporoeal-knotting, endoloop, stapler and clips are used during laparoscopic appendectomy. This study aimed to compare intracorporoeal-knotting and endoloop tecniques used to close appendiceal stump in laparoscopic appendectomy.

Methods: This study included patients who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy with preliminary diagnosis of acute appendicitis in General Surgery Department of Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital between June 2009 and July 2013.

The Effects of Electrocautery on Peripheral Nerve: An Experimental Study.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess the usability of an electrocautery device as nerve stimulator and to investigate histopathologically the adverse effects of electrocautery at low power on rat sciatic nerves. METHODS A total of 36 female Sprague-Dawley albino rats were divided into six groups according to the power applied to their sciatic nerves (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 W, respectively). Pathologic changes were studied by microscopic examination and scored (no change = 0, mild = 1, moderate = 2, severe = 3).

Concurrent chemoradiotherapy with vinorelbine plus split-dose cisplatin may be an option in inoperable stage III non-small cell lung cancer: a single-center experience.

Background: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy is the current standard treatment for inoperable stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study we aimed to investigate the efficacy and toxicity of CCRT with split dose of cisplatin (30 mg/m2) and vinorelbine (20 mg/m2) in patients with inoperable stage III NSCLC followed in our oncology clinic.

Material And Methods: Medical records of 97 patients with inoperable stage III NSCLC treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy with cisplatin-vinorelbine were retrospectively analyzed.

Rhomboid Flap Technique in Breast-conserving Surgery: An Alternative Method for the Reconstruction of Lumpectomy Defects.

Objective: We aimed to present our experience with rhomboid flap reconstruction, which is a simple technique, in breast cancer patients who underwent breast-conserving surgery.

Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 13 patients with breast cancer who underwent rhomboid flap reconstruction. The patients were evaluated for tumor size, safe surgical margin, and other clinical and pathological features.

Inherited risk factors in low-risk venous thromboembolism in patients under 45 years.

Objectives: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a complex disease and an important preventable cause of morbidity and mortality today. Many genetic and acquired factors contribute to its aetiology. The aim of the present study is to investigate the incidence of inherited risk factors for thrombophilia in patients under 45 years of age who presented with VTE without having a major acquired risk factor.

Stent entrapment and guide wire fracture during percutaneous coronary intervention in the same patient.

In the performance of increasingly complex PCI there remains an ever-present risk of stent entrapment and guide wire or other device fracture. We report the first case with stent dislodgement and guide wire fracture to occur simultaneously in the same patient.
