The pilot study focused on the presence of micronuclei (MN) and other nuclear abnormalities in oral mucosa cells from patients with type I, II, and LADA diabetes, comparing results to healthy individuals.
Cytogenetic analysis indicated that diabetes patients had significantly higher levels of MN, particularly in type I and LADA groups, suggesting potential cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of the disease.
There was a strong correlation found between MN levels, blood glucose concentration, and glycosylated hemoglobin, highlighting the impact of diabetes on cellular health.
