Since the 1970s, specialized hemophilia centers have been established to optimize the complex and costly treatment of patients with severe bleeding disorders. In 2019, the first GTH guidelines on the structural and process quality of hemophilia centers were published. On this basis, a procedure for the certification of hemophilia centers has been established under the technical leadership of the GTH.

[ePROs in the routine care of a major oncology center: Results and experiences].

Background: To what extent and under what conditions electronically captured patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) can be used in routine medical care and contribute to improved patient care is a widely discussed question. In the field of oncology, few studies in Germany have focused this topic that go beyond the scope of time-limited studies.

Method: First, we present the centrally coordinated collection of ePROs in the routine care of a comprehensive cancer center of the German Cancer Aid in its development, and then describe its qualitative dimension.

[Housing Situation of People with Severe Mental Illnesses].

Objective: People with mental illness should live independently in the community. This study analyzed the housing situation and the use and need of psychiatric housing facilities of people with severe mental illness.

Methods: Data from a cross-sectional study with 397 people with severe mental illness from two Bavarian districts were used and analyzed descriptively.

Background: Self-help can play an important supplementary role in the treatment of people with severe mental illness; however, little is known about the utilization of the various approaches.

Objective: This study describes the use of various self-help options by patients with severe mental illness and examines potential predictors.

Material And Methods: As part of the observational cross-sectional study on patients with severe mental illness (IMPPETUS, N = 397), trained staff collected sociodemographic, illness-associated and treatment-associated data between March 2019 and September 2019.

Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas are rare neuroendocrine tumours. Around 20-25 % of patients develop metastases, for which there is an urgent need of prognostic markers and therapeutic stratification strategies. The presence of a MAML3-fusion is associated with increased metastatic risk, but neither the processes underlying disease progression, nor targetable vulnerabilities have been addressed.

Impact of COVID-19 infection on lung function and nutritional status amongst individuals with cystic fibrosis: A global cohort study.

Background: Factors associated with severe COVID-19 infection have been identified; however, the impact of infection on longer-term outcomes is unclear. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of COVID-19 infection on the trajectory of lung function and nutritional status in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF).

Methods: This is a retrospective global cohort study of pwCF who had confirmed COVID-19 infection diagnosed between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021.

[Mental distress of intensive care staff in Germany during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results from the VOICE study].

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic posed major challenges to the healthcare system worldwide and led to particular stress among healthcare workers. The aim of this analysis was to investigate the level of global mental stress of direct healthcare workers in Germany during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: In this prospective cross-sectional study with four measurement points (T1: 4-5/2020, T2:11/2020-1/2021, 5-7/2021, 2-5/2022), psychological distress symptoms were recorded in an online survey with the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-4) among hospital staff working in direct patient care (N = 5408 datasets).

[EULAR recommendations 2023 on the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus -Implications for treatment in Germany].

The 2023 update of the EULAR recommendations for the management of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) faced several tasks: the newly approved medications anifrolumab and voclosporin as well as the additional approval of belimumab for lupus nephritis had to be conceptionally fitted into the management of SLE. Novel data on hydroxychloroquine and glucocorticoids, additional results for the treat-to-target goals remission and low disease activity and experience with respect to vaccinations and infections had to be considered. Additionally, EULAR specified a slightly modified structure.

Pandemic Preparedness - A Proposal for a Research Infrastructure and its Functionalities for a Resilient Health Research System.

Um verlässliche, evidenzbasierte Empfehlungen aus der Universitätsmedizin an die Gesundheitspolitik und die Entscheidungsträger bereitstellen zu können, müssen wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse schnell, integrativ und multidisziplinär generiert, synthetisiert und kommuniziert werden. Die Resilienz der öffentlichen Gesundheitssysteme und der Gesundheitsforschungssysteme sind somit eng verknüpft.

Background: Very early bilateral cochlear implant (CI) provision is today's established standard for children. Therefore, the assessment of preverbal and verbal performance in very early stages of development is becoming increasingly important. Performance data from cohorts of children were evaluated and presented based on diagnostic assessment using chronological age (CA) and hearing age (HA).

[Clinical acute and emergency medicine curriculum-focus on internal medicine : Recommendations for advanced training in internal medicine in the emergency department].

In Germany, physicians qualify for emergency medicine by combining a specialty medical training-e.g. internal medicine-with advanced training in emergency medicine according to the statutes of the State Chambers of Physicians largely based upon the Guideline Regulations on Specialty Training of the German Medical Association.

Positive Vasoreactivity Testing in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Therapeutic Consequences, Treatment Patterns, and Outcomes in the Modern Management Era.

Background: Among patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), acute vasoreactivity testing during right heart catheterization may identify acute vasoresponders, for whom treatment with high-dose calcium channel blockers (CCBs) is recommended. However, long-term outcomes in the current era remain largely unknown. We sought to evaluate the implications of acute vasoreactivity response for long-term response to CCBs and other outcomes.

[Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension].

Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary disease (CTEPD) is an important late complication of acute pulmonary embolism, in which the thrombi transform into fibrous tissue, become integrated into the vessel wall, and lead to chronic obstructions. CTEPD is differentiated into cases without pulmonary hypertension (PH), characterized by a mean pulmonary arterial pressure up to 20 mmHg and a form with PH. Then, it is still referred to as chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH).

[Pulmonary hypertension associated with lung disease].

Lung diseases and hypoventilation syndromes are often associated with pulmonary hypertension (PH). In most cases, PH is not severe. This is defined hemodynamically by a mean pulmonary arterial pressure (PAPm) > 20 mmHg, a pulmonary arterial wedge pressure (PAWP) ≤ 15 mmHg and a pulmonary vascular resistance of ≤ 5 Wood units (WU).

[Medication treatment in pulmonary arterial hypertension with comorbidities - Which phenotypes and points to consider].

Within the last decade, the age at diagnosis of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension has increased, which led to a change of the clinical phenoype being associated with more comorbidities. Cluster analyses of registry data have identified cardiac, cardio-pulmonary and classical phenotypes of pulmonary arterial hypertension.Subgroup analyses of randomised controlled trials and registry data indicate, that in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension and cardiac comorbidities, especially the left-heart phenotype, a closely supervised combination treatment may be considered.
