Treatment of the aneurysms comprising the aortic arch is challenging. Surgical reconstruction usually requires aortic cross-clamping, cardiac arrest, and even deep hypothermia for a bloodless field. In this report, we present our surgical technique providing normothermic ascending aorta, aortic arch, and proximal descending aorta replacement with selective cannulation and perfusion of the whole body.

The use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and cardio-circulatory shock has been widely accepted. In recent years, a variety of novel and exceptional indications for ECMO have been proposed; however, experience with ECMO use in the presence of multiple penetrating injuries is limited. In this report, we present successful ECMO application in a patient with multiple firearm injuries.

Aneurysms of the sinuses of Valsalva are defined as dilatation of the aortic root region between the aortic annulus and the sinotubular junction. Isolated aneurysms of the sinus of Valsalva are rare cardiovascular pathologies. They may be congenital, especially secondary to connective tissue disorders or in conjunction with congenital cardiac defects, or acquired such as secondary to infections or trauma.

Aim: Atrial septal aneurysm (ASA) is one of the congenital heart defects. The underlying pathophysiology of ASA has not been fully understood yet. Alpha-1 antitrypsin (A1AT) is a serine protease inhibitor glycoprotein, which is held responsible from tissue wall proteolysis if it is deficient in the body.

Tekirdag Namik Kemal University Medical Faculty, Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department, Namık Kemal District, Namık Kemal District Kampüs Street 1/14, 59100, Süleymanpaşa, Tekirdağ, Turkey. Electronic address:

Background: The diagnosis of anterior cruciate ligament tear can be made by physical examination and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the supine position. In cases where the tear is partially evaluated on MRI, the choice of treatment may vary. The purpose of the study was to investigate the efficiency of MRI at maximum knee flexion in the prone position and to compare the images with findings of the ACL detected during surgery.

Advanced diagnostic systems and healthcare screening programs enabled increased diagnosis of congenital cardiovascular anomalies, including variations in coronary arteries. Single coronary artery is a rare congenital cardiovascular malformation in which all three main coronary arteries originate from a single coronary trunk. In this report, we present a patient with single coronary ostium giving rise to the left and right coronary artery systems, which was diagnosed incidentally with coronary computerized tomography and confirmed with conventional angiography.

Anomalies as well as variations of vascular structures are widely diagnosed with today's advanced diagnostic tools and healthcare screening programs. Collateral formation is a well known phenomenon in the presence of stenosis or occlusion to provide blood flow to the distal vasculature. In this report, we present the image of a collateral between the left common carotid artery and right coronary artery in the absence of significant stenosis.

We aimed to determine whether attempts to restore and maintain sinus rhythm will reduce recurrent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Patients (n = 245) between March 1998 and May 2002 with AF who had an ischemic stroke including transient ischemic attack 1 to 12 months before transesophageal echocardiographic examination and had been followed for 3 years were retrospectively reviewed. Cardioversion was attempted in 130 patients; 117 (90%) patients were successfully cardioverted (rhythm control group).

Article Synopsis
  • This study assessed the effectiveness of external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) with mono-canalicular intubation in patients who had a total obstruction of one canaliculus.
  • Sixteen patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction participated, with outcomes measured before and six months after surgery using Munk epiphora grading.
  • Results showed significant improvements in symptoms, with all eyes having patent irrigation of the intact canaliculus postoperatively and marked reductions in Munk scores, indicating effective treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the involvement of the Wnt signaling pathway in early- and late-onset preeclampsia (PE) by measuring serum levels of Dickkopf-1 and R-Spondin-3 in 80 pregnant women.
  • Results indicated that Dickkopf-1 levels were significantly higher in the early-onset PE group compared to controls, but no significant differences were found between the two PE groups or in R-Spondin-3 levels.
  • The study concludes that elevated Dickkopf-1 may play a role in early-onset PE, prompting the need for further research to clarify its exact implications in PE pathology.

Objective: The aim of our study is to evaluate the functional outcomes and quality of life in adult ipsilateral femur and tibia fractures.

Methods: 26 patients (21 male, 5 female; mean age 30 years, range: 18 to 66) treated for adult ipsilateral femur and tibia fractures were evaluated retrospectively. For femur fractures, intramedullary nails were used in 15 patients (12 antegrade, 3 retrograde), plate in 11 patients (10 locked-plate, and 1 blade-plate with a 95 degree angle).

Purpose: In the previous studies, positive effect of sunlight on seborrheic dermatitis may well be explained by the direct influence of UV-light on the yeasts. Narrow-band ultraviolet-B phototherapy appears to be a very effective and safe treatment option for patients with severe seborrheic dermatitis. We aimed to investigate the efficacy of narrow-band ultraviolet-B phototherapy as an alternative treatment for pityriasis versicolor.

Background: New-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF), a common complication of acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), is associated with a poor prognosis. Several clinical and laboratory parameters are reported to be associated with NOAF in patients with STEMI. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the predictive value of plasma B‑type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels for NOAF development and long-term prognosis in STEMI patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI).
