Purpose: In patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot, transcatheter or surgical pulmonary valve replacement is recommended. However, it is not clear whether pulmonary valve replacement preserves systolic and diastolic functions of both ventricles. The aim of the study is to investigate the impact of transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement on atrial and ventricular myocardial strain changes by feature-tracking cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.

Purpose: The location of the sigmoid sinus may change according to the ventilation status of the mastoid bone, in which case the relationship of the sigmoid sinus to the facial nerve and semicircular canals is predicted to change. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the importance of sigmoid sinus distances to the facial nerve and semicircular canals concerning mastoid surgery.

Methods: The relationship of the sigmoid sinus and the facial nerve with the semicircular canals was analyzed from the cone beam computed tomography images of 75 male and 95 female subjects, aged 18-65 years.

Impact of Otoplasty on Speech Intelligibility and Auditory Function in Noise.

Indian J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg

January 2025

The Division of Otolaryngology, Melhem International Hospital, Baku, Azerbaijan.

Prominent ear deformity, affecting up to 5% of the white population, is characterized by an absent antihelical fold and conchal cartilage hypertrophy. These anatomical changes can potentially alter auditory function, including speech intelligibility in noise. To evaluate changes in auditory function, particularly speech intelligibility in noise, following otoplasty for prominent ear deformities.

Autophagy plays a complex role in cancer progression, serving as both a tumor suppressor and a promoter, depending on the context. In triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), a particularly aggressive subtype with limited therapeutic options, autophagy inhibition has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy. This study investigates the synergistic effects of autophagy suppression using LC3 siRNA-loaded "smart" nanoparticles (LC3siRNA-NPs) in combination with doxorubicin (DOX) to overcome chemoresistance in TNBC.
