Department of Sports Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital, Institute of Sports Medicine of Peking University, Beijing Key Laboratory of Sports Injuries, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare outcomes after arthroscopy between FAIS patients with untreated central acetabular osteophytes (CAO) and a matched control group without CAO.
  • Results showed that the CAO group had significantly lower patient-reported outcomes and were less likely to achieve meaningful improvement compared to the control group.
  • There were no notable differences in complications or revision surgery rates between the two groups after at least two years of follow-up.

Function and Mechanism of RGD in Bone and Cartilage Tissue Engineering.

Front Bioeng Biotechnol

December 2021

Sports Medicine Department, Beijing Key Laboratory of Sports Injuries, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China.

Bone and cartilage injury is common, tissue engineered scaffolds are potential means to repair. Because most of the scaffold materials used in bone and cartilage tissue engineering are bio-inert, it is necessary to increase the cellular adhesion ability of during tissue engineering reconstruction. The Arginine - Glycine - Aspartic acid (Arg-Gly-Asp, RGD) peptide family is considered as a specific recognition site for the integrin receptors.

PEGylated Doxorubicin Prodrug-Forming Reduction-Sensitive Micelles With High Drug Loading and Improved Anticancer Therapy.

Front Bioeng Biotechnol

November 2021

Sports Medicine Department, Beijing Key Laboratory of Sports Injuries, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China.

Significant efforts on the design and development of advanced drug delivery systems for targeted cancer chemotherapy continue to be a major challenge. Here, we reported a kind of reduction-responsive PEGylated doxorubicin (DOX) prodrug via the simple esterification and amidation reactions, which self-assembled into the biodegradable micelles in solutions. Since there was an obvious difference in the reduction potentials between the oxidizing extracellular milieu and the reducing intracellular fluids, these PEG-disulfide-DOX micelles were localized intracellularly and degraded rapidly by the stimulus to release the drugs once reaching the targeted tumors, which obviously enhanced the therapeutic efficacy with low side effects.

Background: Neovascularization plays an essential part in bone fracture and defect healing, constructing tissue engineered bone that targets bone regeneration. Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9) is a regular indicator that potentiates osteogenic and angiogenic differentiation of MSCs.

Objectives: To investigate the effects of BMP9 on osteogenesis and angiogenesis of human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs) cocultured with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and determine the possible underlying molecular mechanism.

Injuries to menisci are the most common disease among knee joint-related morbidities and cover a widespread population ranging from children and the general population to the old and athletes. Repair of the injuries in the meniscal avascular zone remains a significant challenge due to the limited intrinsic healing capacity compared to the peripheral vascularized zone. The current surgical strategies for avascular zone injuries remain insufficient to prevent the development of cartilage degeneration and the ultimate emergence of osteoarthritis (OA).

Anterior and rotational tibial subluxation in the setting of anterior cruciate ligament injuries: An MRI analysis.

Knee

December 2021

Department of Sports Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China; Institute of Sports Medicine of Peking University, Beijing, China; Beijing Key Laboratory of Sports Injuries, Beijing, China; Peking University Health Science Center, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Background: The relationship between preoperative tibiofemoral position and failure of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been widely discussed. Most established methods for measuring tibiofemoral position on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) mainly focus on anterior tibial subluxation (ATS), while a quantitative measuring method for rotational tibial subluxation (RTS) is still undetermined. Moreover, there are still controversies about the related factors for ATS.

Background: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) under the arthroscopy is a widespread procedure for ACL rupture, which could stabilize knee and promote recovery. However, one of its complications is the injury of infrapatellar branch of saphenous nerve (IBSN). In traditional Chinese medicine, acupotomy functions via releasing and stripping adhesion tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how the shape of the femur and acetabulum relates to gluteus medius pathology and to evaluate the effectiveness of arthroscopic treatment for femoroacetabular impingement in patients with gluteus medius tears.
  • The research involved a retrospective analysis of FAI patients from January 2016 to December 2019, collecting demographic and radiographic data while excluding certain prior conditions or incomplete cases.
  • The results indicated that out of 569 hips, 36.7% showed gluteus medius pathology, with significant differences in neck-shaft and lateral center-edge angles across different types of tears, suggesting a potential link between femoral shape and gluteus medius injury.
