Background Unplanned hospitalizations are common in patients with cardiovascular disease. The "Triage Heart Failure Risk Status" (Triage-HFRS) algorithm in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices uses data from up to 9 device-derived physiological parameters to stratify patients as low/medium/high risk of 30-day heart failure (HF) hospitalization, but its use to predict all-cause hospitalization has not been explored. We examined the association between Triage-HFRS and risk of all-cause, cardiovascular, or HF hospitalization.

Background A significant proportion of patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (MI) have no standard modifiable cardiovascular risk factors (SMuRFs) and have unexpected worse 30-day outcomes compared with those with SMuRFs. The aim of this article is to examine outcomes of patients with non-ST-segment-elevation MI in the absence of SMuRFs. Bisphosphonates (BPs) are commonly used in the treatment of osteoporosis and are effective in the prevention of fragility fracture. Long-term use has been associated with the development of atypical femur fractures (AFFs) and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). Drug holidays seek to reduce the risk of insufficiency fractures (AFFs) while maintaining durable effects of long-term treatment in the prevention of fragility fracture.

Anthocyanin intake is associated with improved memory in older adults with mild cognitive impairment.

Research on the role of dietary anthocyanins in preventing cognitive decline in older adults shows promise. This study investigated the association between usual anthocyanin intake and indices of memory and cognition in 40 older adults diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment that were recruited to a randomized clinical trial. It was hypothesized that daily anthocyanin intake would be similar to healthy older adults and that higher anthocyanin intake would be associated with better cognitive performance.

Electrophysiological Assessment in Birdshot Chorioretinopathy: Flicker Electroretinograms Recorded With a Handheld Device.

Purpose: The flicker electroretinogram (ERG) is a sensitive indicator of retinal dysfunction in birdshot chorioretinopathy (BCR). We explored recordings from a handheld device in BCR, comparing these with conventional recordings in the same patients and with handheld ERGs from healthy individuals.

Methods: Non-mydriatic flicker ERGs, using the handheld RETeval system (LKC Technologies), were recorded with skin electrodes at two centers.

The earliest reports of atypical femur fractures (AFF) emerged from Asia. In the West, epidemiologic studies report a greater incidence of AFFs among subjects of Asian background. Asian ethnicity is an established risk factor for AFF, but clear mechanisms to explain this risk and implications for the general development of AFF are open questions.

Communicating with patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: can we do it better?

Communications between clinicians and patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) have the potential to be challenging. The variable course and poor prognosis of IPF complicate discussions around life expectancy but should not prevent clinicians from having meaningful conversations about patients' fears and needs, while acknowledging uncertainties. Patients want information about the course of their disease and management options, but the provision of information needs to be individualised to the needs and preferences of the patient.

Development and Psychometric Testing of a Knowledge Instrument on Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis for Clinicians: The Know-IAD.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the development and evaluation of the psychometric properties of an instrument used to assess clinician knowledge of Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD).

Design: The instrument was developed in three phases: Phase 1 involved item development; Phase 2 evaluated content validity of the instrument by surveying clinicians and stakeholders within a single state of Australia and, Phase 3 used a pilot multisite cross-sectional survey design to determine composite reliability and evaluate scores of the knowledge tool.

Although in the past, some reservations have been raised regarding the expression of the vitamin D receptor in muscle tissue, this special issue review article outlines the clear evidence from preclinical studies for not only the expression of the receptor in muscle but also the roles of vitamin D activity in muscle development, mass, and strength.

A national open-access research registry to improve recruitment to clinical studies.

Introduction: Barriers to recruitment for dementia studies are well documented. As part of the UK government's Dementia 2020 strategy, a nationally consistent system to increase public engagement and participation in research was launched in February 2015.
