Background: Complete continuum of maternity care has significant value in improving the health and wellbeing of mothers and newborns. Assessing the complete continuum of maternity care is a global priority, particularly in developing countries. Despite the fact that the complete continuum of maternity care prevents more than half of all maternal and neonatal deaths, Ethiopia remains one of the largest contributors to the global burden of maternal and neonatal deaths due to the low implementation of the complete continuum of maternity care.

Article Synopsis
  • Guided bone regeneration techniques using titanium membranes are effective for dental implant placement, with comparable bone gain to other membrane types.
  • The study analyzed 13 articles and found that while titanium membranes have a higher complication rate than some alternatives, their implant survival rates are on par with implants in natural bone.
  • The authors suggest that more randomized clinical trials are needed to better compare titanium barriers with other membrane options for clearer conclusions.

Background: Exposure to environmental stressors can lead to shorter leukocyte telomere length and increase the risk of chronic diseases. Preservation of leukocyte telomere length by reducing oxidative stress exposure and reinforcing immunity may be a mechanism by which nutritional factors delay or prevent chronic disease development.

Methods: Healthy pregnant women (aged 18-45 years) at 9-15 weeks of gestation living in Gasabo District, Kigali, Rwanda, were recruited from 10 health centers for a prospective, longitudinal study from September to October 2017 to determine possible associations between nutrition health, infectious disease and leukocyte telomere length.
