This study is aimed to elucidate the possible antioxidant and protective effects of essential oil (ACEO) against the deleterious effects of chlorpyrifos (CPF) in rats. The study revealed increases in aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities and the serum contents of creatinine, urea, uric acid, cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoproteins (LDL), and glucose in rats treated with CPF as compared to controls. Meanwhile, hepatic and renal activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in liver and kidney decreased and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) increased.

This study was assessed to examine whether Zingiber officinale (ZO) can prevent spine disorder and trabecular microarchitecture disruption in osteoporotic murin model. Three groups of male rats were selected: Controls (CTRL), combined model of osteoporosis (CMO), in which rats were orchidectomized and treated with cortisol, and CMO treated with ZO (CMO + ZO). One month after the surgical procedures, the rats were sacrificed.

Our study was designed to evaluate impacts of exposure to pollutants, released by the Gabès-Ghannouche factory complex of phosphate treatment, on biochemical biomarkers and histopathological indices in kidney tissues of Hybrid sparrow (Passer domesticus × Passer hispaniolensis) in Gabès city. Our results show evidence of a pronounced impairment in kidney function which is confirmed by remarkable blood chemical alterations in sparrows living in Ghannouche, the most polluted site. Moreover, superoxide dismutase and catalase activities were found to be decreased in birds sampled from the contaminated site when compared to less polluted areas.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of Teucrium polium (TP) on carbon tetrachloride (CCl) induced spleen, erythrocyte's oxidative stress, and genotoxicity in rats. TP was found to contain large amounts of polyphenols (150 mg GAE/G of dry plant) and flavonoids (60 mg QE/g of quercetin dry plant). The CCl (0.

Environmental pollution is a great concern worldwide. Our aim was to investigate the histopathological injuries and oxidative stress induced by exposure to contaminants in liver tissues of hybrid sparrows (Passer domesticus × Passer hispaniolensis) living in Gabès city, which is one of the most polluted hot spot in Tunisia. Our results show evidence of a pronounced impairment in liver function which is confirmed by histopathological changes as well as remarkable blood chemical alterations in sparrows living near the Gabès-Ghannouche factory complex of phosphate treatment.

Herbal drugs play a crucial function to protect organisms from the toxic effect of some compounds. The present study was designed to evaluate the protective effects of Teucrium Polium (TP) aqueous extract and vitamin C (Vit C) against carbon tetrachloride (CCl) which induced toxicity in rats. Male albino Wistar rats were divided into six groups: group I was used as controls, group II received CCl in olive oil (0.

Antioxidative/oxidative effects and retarding osteoconductivity of ciprofloxacin-loaded porous polyvinyl alcohol/bioactive glass hybrid.

Med Biol Eng Comput

January 2017

Laboratory of Sciences Material and Environment, Faculty of Sciences of Sfax, B.P. 1171, 3000, Sfax, Tunisia.

This study investigated the effect of bioglass (melting)-polyvinyl alcohol (BG (M)-PVA) and bioglass (melting)-polyvinyl alcohol-20 %ciprofloxacin (BG(M)-PVA-20Cip) in improving antioxidant activity and regenerating bone capacity. These composites were implanted in femoral condyles of ovariectomized Wistar rats and compared to that of controls groups. After the different period of implantation (15, 30, 60 and 90 days), the treatment of ovariectomized rats with BG(M)-PVA-20Cip showed a significantly higher malondialdehyde concentration when compared to that of BG(M)-PVA group.

Laboratory of Histo-Embryology and Cytogenetic, Medicine Faculty of Sfax University, 3029 Sfax, Tunisia; Laboratory of Histology-Cytology, Medicine Faculty of Tunis El-Manar University, 1007 La Rabta-Tunis, Tunisia. Electronic address:

Air pollution is a threat for human health and wildlife. The aim of this study is to assess the pathophysiological changes and the oxidative-antioxidative status in testicular tissues of 40 Hybrid sparrows collected from four areas in Gabès city, one of the most polluted areas in Tunisia. The testis histopathological analysis revealed alterations in birds from Ghannouche, the polluted area.
