Osteoid osteoma of the lunatum mimicking Kienböck's disease.

Case Reports Plast Surg Hand Surg

June 2016

Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Medicana International Hospital, Ankara, Turkey.

Hands, especially lunatum, are involved very rarely with osteoid osteoma. This report presents an osteoid osteoma of the lunatum, which was previously misdiagnosed as Kienböck's disease and had undergone surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging may lead the clinician to misdiagnose because of the excessive bone edema around the carpus.

December 2014

Department of Urology, SLK Kliniken Heilbronn, Heilbronn, Germany; Department of Urology, University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany. Electronic address:

Background: An improved armamentarium has had a significant impact on the emerging role of flexible ureteroscopy (FURS) for the management of nephrolithiasis; however, FURS still represents a challenging technique.

Objective: To examine a robotic device designed for FURS for its impact on ergonomics and outcome of the procedure based on the IDEAL (idea, development, evaluation, assessment, long-term study) framework.

Design, Setting, And Participants: Roboflex Avicenna consists of a surgeon's console and a manipulator for the flexible ureterorenoscope.

Congenital subvalvular aortic stenosis may be associated with anomalies of the mitral valve. In this case, we present a patient with severe mitral valve regurgitation due to a perforation in the anterior mitral leaflet detected 4 months after an operation for relief of subaortic stenosis. A 10-year-old male patient who was operated for subvalvular aortic stenosis in another clinic was admitted to our hospital, and transthoracic echocardiography revealed severe mitral valve regurgitation due to a defect that was demonstrated at the anterior valve leaflet.

Arterial switch operation remains the gold standard surgical therapy for D-transposition of the great vessels. Coronary anomalies may complicate the surgical strategy and lead to an increased morbidity and mortality. However, as of today, even challenging coronary anomalies should not be a contraindication for the performance of complete repair.

Objective: This study investigated whether or not the stress and hypoxia, which are the effects of radiation on normal vascular endothelium, leading to the release of HIF-1α, VEGF, eIF2, TIA-1, and TSP-1 were related and the possibility of them stimulating angiogenesis.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-four male Swiss Albino mice were separated into 4 groups. The first group was the control group (Group 1), and the second, third, and fourth groups were euthanized after 24 h (Group 2), 48 h (Group 3), and 7 days (Group 4), respectively.

Cancer, chemotherapy, and infections all together make changes in blood rheology and may affect the defense mechanisms by changing the thrombocyte function and endothelial cell. We have examined changes of blood rheology on plasma viscosity to put on probable following criteria for starting the treatment of febrile neutropenia immediately. A total of 27 postchemotherapy patients (16 males and 11 females) with febrile neutropenia diagnosed according to international guidelines have been included into the study.

The Ross-Konno procedure has become a widely recognized surgical method for the treatment of complex left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO) in patients of younger age. We applied this method in two young females who presented following mechanical aortic valve replacement with severe prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM) resulting in significant gradient across the left ventricular outflow tract and congestive heart failure. In both cases the postoperative course was uneventful with immediate improvement in clinical symptoms.

Objectives: In contrast to its membrane-bound form, soluble endothelial protein C receptor (sEPCR) expresses procoagulant activity through binding to protein C. We aimed to investigate the relationship between sEPCR levels and protein C activity in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Methods: The study population included 60 STEMI patients who had undergone a primary percutaneous coronary intervention and 29 patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP) with significant coronary stenosis on angiography.

We report the successful closure of an extracardiac Fontan fenestration with a bio-absorbable device, which may be refenestrated by a transcatheter route when needed, in a 10-year-old boy. The patient presented with cyanosis two years after an extracardiac Fontan operation. Echocardiography revealed a moderate shunt from the Fontan circulation into the systemic circulation with a mean pressure gradient of 3-4 mmHg.

Postmyocardial infarction ventricular septal defect (VSD) carries a high mortality and, even after successful surgery, residual defect is common. A 75-year-old woman was admitted with the diagnosis of hyperacute anterior myocardial infarction. Primary percutaneous intervention was performed by stenting of a totally obstructed segment in the proximal left anterior descending artery.

Aiming to increase mixing at the atrial level, atrial septal stenting was performed in two pediatric cases with cyanotic congenital cardiac diseases. The first case was a 3-month-old male infant with transposition of the great arteries. The second case was an 18-month-old male infant with increased central venous pressure due to postoperative right ventricular outflow tract obstruction.
