The results of SGLT-2 inhibitors use in kidney transplantation: 1-year experiences from two centers.

Purpose: Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT-2i) administration is associated with some concerns in regard to the increased risk of genital and urinary tract infections (UTI) in kidney transplant recipients (KTR). In this study, we present the results of SGLT-2i use in KTR, including the early post-transplant period.

Methods: Participants were divided into two groups: SGLT-2i-free diabetic KTR (Group 1, n = 21) and diabetic KTR using SGLT-2i (Group 2, n = 36).

The Effects of Zinc Pyrithione and Selenium Disulfide Shampoos on the Lesion-free Period After Treatment in Patients with Seborrheic Dermatitis.

Background: There are studies in the literature on zinc pyrithione and selenium disulfide containing shampoos for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, but we have not been able to find a study that clearly evaluates the duration of relapses.

Objective: This retrospective chart review investigated disease relapse times in patients with seborrheic dermatitis who achieved remission with treatment and continued maintenance therapy using zinc pyrithione or selenium disulfide containing shampoo.

Methods: Records from a total of 400 patients were reviewed, with 200 patients having used zinc pyrithione shampoo and 200 patients having used selenium disulfide shampoo.

The effect of brace on apical vertebral derotation in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Purpose: The current study aims to evaluate the effect of Boston brace treatment on apical vertebral derotation in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients receiving conservative treatment.

Methods: The study included 51 AIS patients, consisting of 8 males and 43 females, with Cobb angles between 25° and 45° and Risser's findings ranging from 0 to 4. The mean age of the participants was 12.

Real-world data on the effectiveness and safety of Ixazomib-Lenalidomide-Dexamethasone therapy in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma patients: a multicenter experience in Turkey.

A multicenter, retrospective, observational study was conducted to explore effectiveness and safety of ixazomib plus lenalidomide with dexamethasone (IRd) in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) patients following at least ≥ two lines of therapy. Patients' treatment responses, overall response rate, progression-free survival rate, and adverse events were recorded. Mean age of 54 patients was 66.

The trefoil factor family (TFF) is a relatively new family of peptides. In some studies, an association between trefoil factors and inflammatory diseases of the nasal and paranasal sinuses has been suggested. However, it is still not clear whether there is a relationship between trefoil peptides and inflammation of the respiratory tract.

Picturing asthma in Turkey: results from the Turkish adult asthma registry.

Introduction: National data on asthma characteristics and the factors associated with uncontrolled asthma seem to be necessary for every country. For this purpose, we developed the Turkish Adult Asthma Registry for patients with asthma aiming to take a snapshot of our patients, thereby assigning the unmet needs and niche areas of intervention.

Objective: The primary aim of the current study was to investigate the frequency of metabolic syndrome (MS) in early-stage breast cancer patients. Additionally, clinicopathological factors, such as anthropometric measurements and hormonotherapy, were examined for their roles as potential confounders of MS in these patients.

Patients And Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, all patients diagnosed with early breast cancer were included.

Aim: To determine the predictive ability of serum thiol-disulphide levels for contrast medium-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) after endovascular treatment (EVT) of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and evaluate the efficacy of intravenous N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in preventing CA-AKI.

Material And Methods: This double-blind, randomised controlled study included 85 consecutive adult patients who underwent EVT for PAD. Patients were divided into NAC negative (NAC-) and positive (NAC+) groups.

Platin desensitizations in thoracic malignancies and risk factors for breakthrough reactions.

Although platin desensitization is a safe and effective alternative for patients with hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs), sometimes breakthrough reactions (BTRs) can be encountered. However, data about the risk factors for BTRs are limited. The aim of this study is to define the outcomes of desensitization, the characteristics of BTRs, and to identify the risk factors for BTRs with platins in thoracic malignancies.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in Bicuspid Aortic Valve Patients with Coagulation Factor 7 and 11 Deficiency and Atrial Fibrillation.

Although transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), which is a less invasive standard treatment for aortic stenosis than surgery, has been recommended even in low-risk patients, its effectiveness in bicuspid aortic valve is still unclear. Cardiac surgery has been proven to cause serious complications in hematological diseases with factor deficiency or bleeding diathesis. In this case, which is the first in the literature to our knowledge, we tried to present the successful TAVI procedure in a young patient with bicuspid aortic stenosis and factor 7, 11 deficiency complicated by atrial fibrillation.

International Forum: The Turkish perspective on apheresis activity: The Turkish apheresis registry report.

Therapeutic apheresis is an extracorporeal treatment that selectively removes abnormal cells or harmful substances in the blood that are associated with or cause certain diseases. During the last decades the application of therapeutic apheresis has expanded to a broad spectrum of hematological and non-hematological diseases due to various studies on the clinical efficacy of this procedure. In this context there are more than 30 centers performing therapeutic apheresis and registered in the apheresis database in Turkey.

The combined use of carbon nanotubes with synthetic ceramics enhances posterolateral fusion: an experimental study in a rat spinal fusion model.

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/ HA-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) composite in a posterolateral spinal fusion model.

Methods: At first, CNTs and CNTs/HA-TCP composites were prepared. Twenty adult male Sprague Dawley rats were randomized into four groups with five rats in each group.

Background: Up to 30% of patients with acute pericarditis develop recurrent pericarditis. Acute pericarditis may be a manifestation of an underlying systemic autoimmune disease. Therefore, we evaluated the characteristics of patients with acute pericarditis according to antinuclear antibodies (ANA) positivity/negativity.

The Randomized Controlled Study of Low-Level Laser Therapy, Kinesio-Taping and Manual Lymphatic Drainage in Patients With Stage II Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema.

Objective: To compare the effects of low-level laser therapy, kinesio-taping and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) on the affected arm volume, quality of life, arm function, neuropathic pain and shoulder mobility in patients with stage II breast cancer-related lymphedema.

Materials And Methods: Forty-five breast cancer patients with stage II lymphedema were included. The patients were randomized to three groups and treated with MLD, kinesio-taping or low-level laser therapy.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the frequency of sexual dysfunction and the effect of short-term testosterone replacement therapy on sexual functions in congenital hypogonadism patients. Furthermore, we sought to reveal the consistency of the self-report scales used for the diagnosis of sexual dysfunction and the relationship between biochemical parameters.

Materials And Methods: The study was conducted on 47 young male patients aged above 18 years who were diagnosed with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.

Objectives: Patients with hematological malignancies have a high risk of mortality from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on mortality rates in patients with various hematological malignancies and to determine risk factors associated with all-cause mortality.

Methods: A multicenter, observational retrospective analysis of patients with hematological malignancies infected with COVID-19 between July 2020 and December 2021 was performed.

The effect of frailty on the development of acute kidney injury in critically-ill geriatric patients with COVID-19.

Background: Acute kidney injury is strongly associated with mortality in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, age-related risk factors for acute kidney injury are not clear yet. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effects of clinical factors on acute kidney injury development in an elderly COVID-19 patients.

Methods: Critically ill patients (≥65years) with COVID-19 admitted to the intensive care unit were included in the study.

Outcomes of Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation as a Consolidative Strategy for the Treatment of Primary and Isolated Secondary Central Nervous System Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphomas.

Introduction: Standard consolidation for primary diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) of the central nervous system (CNS) (PCNSL) is not established. This single center, retrospective observational study aims to define the outcomes of consolidative high dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation (HDC/ASCT) in patients with PCNSL and isolated secondary CNS DLBCL (SCNSL) and evaluate the prognostic factors.

Patients And Methods: All consecutive patients performed an HDC/ASCT for PCNSL or isolated SCNSLs between October 2012 and February 2022 were identified.

Prevalence and associated risk factors of simple renal cysts in primary hyperparathyroidism.

Purpose: Previous studies have pointed to the role of parathormone (PTH) in the development of simple renal cysts. However, there is insufficient evidence related to simple renal cysts in primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors associated with renal cysts in PHPT patients.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence, seasonal distribution, and characteristics of subacute thyroiditis.

Purpose: An increasing number of cases of subacute thyroiditis (SAT) related to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its vaccines continue to be published. The aim of this study was to investigate any change in the incidence and characteristics of SAT by comparing the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods.

Methods: This retrospective, single-center study included 432 newly-diagnosed SAT patients between January 2018 and December 2021.

Risk Factors for Trabeculotomy Failure in Primary Congenital Glaucoma.

Prcis: This study demonstrates that a baseline corneal diameter >12.25, initial age <4 months at diagnosis, higher baseline IOP than 24 mm Hg, bilaterality, or inability to perform circumferential trabeculotomy, increases the risk of surgical failure of trabeculotomy in patients with primary congenital glaucoma (PCG).

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify clinical predictive factors for surgical failure and to evaluate potential prognostic factors affecting surgical success in patients with PCG who underwent trabeculotomy.
