Purpose: Periapical surgery is followed by manifestations such as pain and swelling, the magnitude of which depends on the degree of tissue damage produced. A study is made of pain and inflammation in the 7 days after periapical surgery and its relation to patient age, gender, smoking, oral hygiene, the location and number of teeth implicated, the duration of the operation, the type of incision and flap involved, and the extent of ostectomy.
Materials And Methods: Sixty patients (22 males, 38 females) with a mean age of 38.
Introduction: Persistent sexual arousal disorder (PSAS) is a poorly documented condition characterized by persistent genital arousal in the absence of conscious feelings of sexual desire.
Aim: To determine whether there are replicable features associated with PSAS, to describe salient characteristics of women reporting this condition, and to determine predictors of distress.
Methods: A 46-item Internet survey containing demographic information, symptom description, triggers, exacerbation and relief measures, distress ratings, and life and sexual satisfaction was placed on a secure server.

Since it is necessary to make more physicians and nurses fully understand the in-hospital pharmacist's work, a questionnaire survey was performed for physicians and nurses on their knowledge of and satisfaction with the work. The survey results were analyzed with multiple regression analysis to reflect the results specifically and objectively in the routine activities of the pharmacy. The results showed that physicians with experience of less than 1 year were not well aware of the pharmacists' work related to clinical trials and therapeutic drug monitoring, and that those with an experience of 1 year or longer were not well aware of the work related to clinical trials.

Although disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) are used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the selection of agents in the case of relapse (escape phenomenon) lacks clear-cut standards. We compared the effectiveness in a salazosulfapyridine and then methotrexate (SASP-->MTX) group with that in the mothotrexate (SASP+MTX) group after escape phenomenon expression in C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) data. Outpatients of the Matsubara Mayflower Hospital with a history of DMARD administration during the 4 years prior to May 2003 were studied.

The aim of vertical augmentation of the alveolar ridge is to restore resorbed alveolar ridges. This technique is critical to the placement of dental implants in a favorable position and the enhancement of restoration esthetics. The present report describes a technique for surgical preservation of the anterior maxillary process using maxillary bone from the surgical site and raising a soft tissue rotated palatal flap.

Although disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) are used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the selection of agents in the case of relapse (escape phenomenon) lacks clear-cut standards. Therefore we investigated the rate and conditions of escape as well as the agents used after escapes had occurred. Outpatients of the Matsubara Mayflower Hospital with a history of DMARD administration during the 4 years prior to May 2003 were studied.

Purpose Of Review: Chronic inflammation in asthma can also lead to airway remodeling, which contributes to airway narrowing. It may be possible to assess and quantify the extent of airway remodeling in vivo using computed tomography. This review examines recent developments in the evaluation of asthma severity using computed tomography, and the effect of treatment assessed by computed tomography.

This study sought to develop and evaluate a radiographic exploration technique (parallel profile radiograph [PPRx]) for measuring the dentogingival unit on the buccal surfaces of anterior teeth, and to provide additional information on the dimensions of the dentogingival unit in humans. In 88 periodontally healthy individuals, a PPRx was made of the maxillary left central incisor. Over these images, the components of the dentogingival unit were measured.

We found few references in the dental literature on implant rehabilitation of patients with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia and only 1 case on zygomatic fixations and maxillary prosthesis in a patient with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia. Two zygomatic fixations were placed according to the sinus slot technique, together with 3 implants in the anterior maxillary region. After 6 months, an upper complete prosthesis was screwed onto the implants, and lower overdentures were placed over the remnant canines.

Background: There is a strong correlation between disease mortality and the depth of myometrial invasion in stage I endometrial cancer (EC). Current assessment of the depth of invasion relies on light microscopy. Tumor cells can evade detection by light microscopy if they are vastly outnumbered by myometrial cells.

Purpose: Our objective was to study whether the placement of intra-alveolar tetracycline prevents dry sockets or improves the postoperative period.
Patients And Methods: A comparative clinical study of the surgical removal of 200 impacted mandibular third molars is made, with particular reference to postextraction pain, inflammation, trismus, and the incidence of dry socket. In 50% of these cases, a pharmacologic preparation that includes tetracycline was placed in the socket after removal of the impacted molar.

Introduction: Lymphovascular Invasion (LVSI) of tumour cells is marked as an important step in the process of tumour metastases and is an important prognostic factor in Endometrial Cancer (EC). Currently, the standard method for assessing LVSI is light microscopic examination of H&E stained sections. Tumour cells within lymphovascular spaces can evade detection on H&E staining if they are present in very small numbers or surrounded by a greater number of circulating cells.

Objectives: To test the hypothesis that a disease caused by controllable, compared with uncontrollable, factors is more likely to result in negative emotions and less likelihood of disclosure to significant others.
Design And Methods: A between-participants design in which students (N=108) imagined they had just been diagnosed with either HIV or hypertension and where the cause for each was described as either controllable or uncontrollable. Anticipated emotional and behavioural responses by self and others were assessed by questionnaire.

There has been a recent global resurgence of tuberculosis in both resource-limited and some resource-rich countries. Several factors have contributed to this resurgence, including HIV infection, overcrowding, and immigration. Childhood tuberculosis represents a sentinel event in the community suggesting recent transmission from an infectious adult.

Otitis media with effusion (OME) is one of the most common ear diseases. Bacterial endotoxins and several inflammatory cytokines appear to be involved in the pathogenesis of OME in children; however, little is known of the immunological aspects of the onset of OME in adults. We sought to determine the presence of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) as well as interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), RANTES (regulated upon activation, normal T-cell expressed and presumably secreted), and endotoxin in middle ear effusions (MEEs) from adult patients with OME.
