Introduction: The impact of e-cigarette flavoring on e-cigarette uptake and switching to e-cigarettes among adults who smoke is critical to e-cigarette regulation in the United Sates. The purpose of this secondary analysis was to assess the impact of e-cigarette flavoring choice on e-cigarette uptake and changes in cigarette smoking in a large nationwide trial of e-cigarette provision in the United States.
Methods: A free four-week supply of e-cigarettes was provided with minimal instructions to use to adults who smoke (N = 427).

Over 200 point mutations in the ryanodine receptor (RyR2) of the cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) are known to be associated with cardiac arrhythmia. We have already reported on the calcium signaling phenotype of a point mutation in RyR2 Ca binding site Q3925E expressed in human stem-cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) that was found to be lethal in a 9-year-old girl. CRISPR/Cas9-gene-edited mutant cardiomyocytes carrying the RyR2-Q3925E mutation exhibited a loss of calcium-induced calcium release (CICR) and caffeine-triggered calcium release but continued to beat arrhythmically without generating significant SR Ca release, consistent with a remodeling of the calcium signaling pathway.

No investigations, to our knowledge, have empirically examined the simultaneous provision of evidence-based PTSD treatment to both partners in an intimate relationship diagnosed with PTSD. The current case study describes two partners in a different-sex relationship, both diagnosed with current PTSD, who received individual Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy at the same time as part of a larger randomized clinical trial.

In the SUMMIT trial, patients with HFpEF and obesity were randomized to the long-acting glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist tirzepatide (n = 364, 200 women) or placebo (n = 367, 193 women). As reported separately, tirzepatide decreased cardiovascular death or worsening heart failure.

Background: Epilepsy is a common, chronic pediatric neurological condition predominately treated with anti-seizure medications (ASMs) to control or reduce seizures. Approximately 60 % of youth with epilepsy demonstrate suboptimal adherence to their ASM. This paper describes the methodology, recruitment, design, and baseline participant characteristics of a sequential, multiple assignment, randomized trial (SMART) designed to test the effectiveness of a behavioral health intervention to improve adherence in families of young children with epilepsy.

Objective: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) affects nine women to every man worldwide, and these patients are at greater risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. Clinical studies have demonstrated that patients with SLE are more likely to develop CVD, including cardiac and vascular dysfunction. Although many preclinical models of SLE are available, including treatment with Toll-like receptor (TLR) 7/8 agonists, a consistent preclinical model of SLE-like CVD with systemic, cardiac, renal, and cerebral endothelial activation and cardiac dysfunction has yet to be described.

Purpose: The best possible outcomes in infantile epileptic spasms syndrome require electroclinical remission; however, determining electrographic remission is not straightforward. Although the determination of hypsarrhythmia has inadequate interrater reliability (IRR), the Burden of AmplitudeS and Epileptiform Discharges (BASED) score has shown promise for the reliable interictal assessment of infantile epileptic spasms syndrome. Our aim was to develop a BASED training program and assess the IRR among learners.

All definitions of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) require that patients have experienced insufficient benefit from one or more adequate antidepressant trials. Thus, identifying "failed, adequate trials" is key to the assessment of TRD. The Antidepressant Treatment History Form (ATHF) was one of the first and most widely used instruments that provided objective criteria in making these assessments.

Importance: Although the results of A Study to Evaluate the Corvia Medical Inc IASD System II to Reduce Elevated Left Atrial Pressure in Patients with Heart Failure (REDUCE LAP-HF II) trial were neutral overall, atrial shunt therapy demonstrated potential efficacy in responders (no latent pulmonary vascular disease and no cardiac rhythm management device). Post hoc analyses were conducted to evaluate the effect of shunt vs sham stratified by responder status.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of atrial shunt vs sham control on cardiac structure/function in the overall study and stratified by responder status.

Background: The Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) classification integrates both estimated glomerular filtration rate and urine-albumin-creatinine ratio to stratify risk more comprehensively in patients with chronic kidney disease. There are limited data assessing whether this classification system is associated with prognosis and treatment response in heart failure populations.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relative treatment effects of sacubitril/valsartan across the KDIGO risk categories in patients with HFrEF.

Aims: Patients with heart failure (HF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) have a particularly high prevalence of comorbidities, often necessitating treatment with many medications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between polypharmacy status and outcomes in PARAGON-HF.
Methods And Results: In this post hoc analysis, baseline medication status was available in 4793 of 4796 patients included in the primary analysis of PARAGON-HF.

Background: Surgical treatment of recurrent rectal prolapse is associated with unique technical challenges, partially determined by the surgical approach used for the index operation. Success rates are variable, and data to determine the best approach in patients with recurring prolapse are lacking.
Objective: The study aimed to assess current surgical approaches to patients with prior rectal prolapse repairs and to compare short-term outcomes of de novo and redo procedures, including recurrence of rectal prolapse.

Esophageal thermal injury is one of the most devastating complications of atrial radiofrequency ablation, and its diagnosis can be challenging. In this report, we highlight the novel use of free water as a contrast material to better visualize the esophageal lumen in a patient with anaphylaxis to Iodinated contrast media and Gadolinium who recently underwent atrial fibrillation ablation. This becomes particularly handy in patients with contrast allergy, and further emphasizes the role of multimodality imaging.

Aims: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a risk factor for cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality. However, global distribution of cause-specific deaths in T2D is poorly understood. We characterized cause-specific deaths by geographic region among individuals with T2D at risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD).
