One way to incorporate evidence-based teaching into healthcare education is through backward design, a pedagogical design process that starts with creating learning outcomes, then moves to assessments, followed by content creation. This study uses backward design as a framework to present an applied experience of evidence-based teaching in the design and refinement of an introductory drug information course presented in the first year of a traditional 4-year PharmD curriculum. In addition to backward design, evidence-based teaching methods included scaffolding, pass-fail grading standards, formative assessments, flipped classroom, and gamification.

Objectives: Evaluate system-wide antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) update impact on intravenous (IV)-to-oral (PO) antimicrobial conversion in select community hospitals through pre- and postimplementation trend analysis.
Methods: Retrospective study across seven hospitals: region one (four hospitals, 827 beds) with tele-ASP managed by infectious diseases (ID)-trained pharmacists and region two (three hospitals, 498 beds) without. Data were collected pre- (April 2022-September 2022) and postimplementation (April 2023-September 2023) on nine antimicrobials for the IV to PO days of therapy (DOTs).

Introduction: Daptomycin (DAP) is a cyclic lipopeptide that exhibits potent in vitro activity against many drug-resistant gram-positive organisms, including methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). Despite substantial reports evaluating the clinical outcomes of DAP within the adult population, real-world data are lacking in children. The primary goal of this evaluation was to describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes of DAP use in pediatric patients across a wide range of infections.

is a leading cause of invasive bacterial infections in the pediatric population. In general, data surrounding the use of newly approved antimicrobials within children are lacking. Dalbavancin is a long-acting lipoglycopeptide that shows promise for off-label use in adults given its unique pharmacokinetics and in vitro potency against common Gram-positive isolates; however, evidence to supports its use in children is limited.

Background: This Rapid Practice Guideline (RPG) aimed to provide evidence-based recommendations for ketamine analgo-sedation (monotherapy and adjunct) versus non-ketamine sedatives or usual care in adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients on invasive mechanical ventilation (iMV) and to identify knowledge gaps for future research.
Methods: The RPG panel comprised 23 multinational multidisciplinary panelists, including a patient representative. An up-to-date systematic review and meta-analysis constituted the evidence base.
Objective: To provide schools and colleges of pharmacy a snapshot of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) program characteristics to generate and share ideas for IPPE program modifications to improve student learning outcomes and comply with Standards 2025.
Methods: A 41-item electronic survey was distributed to 140 Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education fully accredited schools and colleges of pharmacy in 2023. IPPE program characteristics such as structure, learning activities, assessments, and requirements were described.

All pharmacists are expected to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations to ensure patient safety. In recent years, there have been trends in declining performance on the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination related to calculations. Understanding the cause of this decline and determining methods to correct underlying issues could benefit pharmacy administration, faculty, students, and patients.

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health concern and contributes to high morbidity and mortality. New evidence supports the use of shorter duration, all-oral regimens, which represent an encouraging treatment strategy for drug-resistant TB. As a result, the landscape of drug-resistant TB pharmacotherapy has drastically evolved regarding treatment principles and preferred agents.

Background: High-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplant (HDT-ASCT) has become a standard of care for transplant eligible newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) patients. While cytogenetic abnormalities have been shown to affect outcomes after HDT-ASCT in clinical trials, these trials often exclude or underrepresent elderly patients with comorbidities and those belonging to ethnic minorities. We describe our institutional experience highlighting the impact of high-risk cytogenetic abnormalities (HRCAs) on outcomes after HDT-ASCT for NDMM patients.

Elizabethkingia anophelis is a Gram-negative bacillus that can exhibit highly resistant phenotypes against most antibiotics with evidence of efficacy and safety in the neonatal population. Given the limited antimicrobial options, clinicians may be forced into challenging treatment scenarios when faced with central nervous system infections in premature neonates caused by E. anophelis .

Non-Hispanic Black patients are disproportionally affected by multiple myeloma (MM) and whether efficacy outcomes after autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) differ by race and ethnicity remains an area of active investigation. This study included 449 patients enriched with a large proportion of non-Hispanic Black patients and sought to highlight the impact of race and ethnicity on outcomes after HDT-ASCT for patients with newly diagnosed MM. We found induction chemotherapy followed by high-dose therapy-ASCT and maintenance chemotherapy is associated with long-term PFS and OS, regardless of race or ethnicity.
