Background Diabetes mellitus frequently coexists with heart failure (HF), but few studies have compared the associations between diabetes mellitus and cardiac remodeling, quality of life, and clinical outcomes, according to HF phenotype. Methods and Results We compared echocardiographic parameters, quality of life (assessed by the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire), and outcomes (1-year all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and HF hospitalization) between HF patients with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus in the prospective ASIAN-HF (Asian Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure) Registry, as well as community-based controls without HF. Detecting the structural changes caused by volume and pressure overload is critical to comprehending the mechanisms of physiologic and pathologic hypertrophy. This study explores the structural changes at the crystallographic level in myosin filaments in volume- and pressure-overloaded myocardia through polarization-dependent second harmonic generation microscopy. Here, for the first time, we report that the ratio of nonlinear susceptibility tensor components increased significantly in volume- and pressure-overloaded myocardial tissues compared with the ratio in normal mouse myocardial tissues.

Background: Aldosterone antagonists (AA) have historically been underutilized despite evidence that they reduce morbidity, mortality, and readmission rates to the hospital when used appropriately.

Objective: We sought to determine if AAs were being prescribed in accordance with the 2013 ACCF/AHA guidelines and if there was any benefit surrounding 30-day readmissions or 30-day mortality for patients taking AAs with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) or heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Objective: This study examined the proportion of pregnant women with opioid use disorder (OUD) who made a decision to continue or taper pharmacotherapy for the treatment of OUD after using a shared decision-making aid and determined whether the aid reflected the principles of the International Patient Decision Aid Standards (IPDAS).

Methods: A shared decision-making aid was developed with the IPDAS instrument to assist pregnant women with OUD receiving care at an outpatient obstetrics clinic in their decision to continue or taper pharmacotherapy for the treatment of OUD. After using the aid, the women (N=22) completed an anonymous survey about the extent to which the aid adhered to IPDAS principles.
