Article Synopsis
  • About 26% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, with many cases remaining unexplained despite known causes like chromosomal abnormalities and uterine issues.
  • A review of 27 studies involving over 134,000 patients examined various biochemical factors potentially linked to early pregnancy loss.
  • Current research suggests there is no definitive biochemical marker for predicting first-trimester pregnancy losses, highlighting the need for combined indicators or new assessment models like α-fetoprotein in vaginal blood.

Article Synopsis
  • Pharmacoresistant epilepsy can be surgically treated if the approaches are clearly defined; the case presented is the first instance of anterior thalamic nuclei stimulation for this condition in Kazakhstan.
  • A 23-year-old patient with a history of tonic-clonic seizures and confirmed structural brain changes underwent assessments that led to the diagnosis of structural focal frontal lobe epilepsy resistant to medication.
  • The surgical procedure involved deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the anterior thalamic nucleus, utilizing advanced imaging techniques to guide the electrode placement, offering new hope for stable seizure remission in patients with similar conditions.

Objectives: To compare the clinical and morphological characteristics of the "mother-placenta-fetus" system in high risk pregnant women of three groups: no SARS-CoV-2 infection, mild SARS-CoV-2 infection, and severe SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Methods: A case-control study was performed for all deliveries, at 28 weeks' gestation or greater, who had standard indications for placental pathologic examination. Three groups were formed: (1) control group (no SARS-CoV-2 infection), (2) mild SARS-CoV-2 infection, (3) severe SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The article presents the results of a study of chromosomal mutations in residents living in the Aral Sea disaster zone. The present study was designed to evaluate the impact of the combined effect of a chemical mutagen (nickel) and bacterial microflora on the level of chromosomal aberrations (CA) in peripheral blood lymphocytes. This study used classical methods of cell cultivation, methods for determining chromosomal aberrations, a cytomorphological method for assessing epithelial cells, and an atomic absorption method for determining trace elements in the blood.

Due to the ever-increasing amount of electronic waste (e-waste) worldwide, the problem of the effective disposal of printed circuit board waste (WPCB), which are environmentally hazardous, difficult to recycle and economically valuable products, has become a major environmental challenge. Conventional WPCB recycling techniques have low efficiency and require tough processing, such as heat treatment and high pressure. This paper presents a new composite material for the manufacture of printed circuit boards (PCB) that can be easily recycled into their original components and reused.

Surgical interventions in the hepatopancreatoduodenal zone in cancer patients are associated with high risk of nutritional deficiency in the postoperative period. This feature is due to both the volume of the operation itself (pancreatoduodenectomy), and the predominance of catabolic processes in the early postoperative period. In this regard, the monitoring of the main indicators of carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism in the early postoperative period becomes fundamental for choosing the correct tactics of nutritional support for this patients.

The aim of research - to study the level of biomarkers of bacterial translocation in the dynamics of the development of two types of intestinal obstruction. In the experiment, 60 white male rats (2 groups with a model of obstructive (OIO) and strangulated (SIO) intestinal obstruction and the Sham control group) determined the level of biomarkers PCT, LBP, IL-6 in blood serum by ELISA. Statistically significant differences in the levels of PCT and LBP were detected in the subgroups of OIO 1 day and SIO 1h/6h, the maximum values were found in the subgroup of OIO 1 day, with SIO the levels of PCT and LBP gradually increased in the post-reperfusion period.
