Background And Aims: Overweight and obesity are modifiable risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in the general population, but their prevalence in individuals with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (HeFH) and whether they confer additional risk of ASCVD independent of LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) remains unclear.

Methods: Cross-sectional analysis was conducted in 35 540 patients with HeFH across 50 countries, in the EAS FH Studies Collaboration registry. Prevalence of World Health Organization-defined body mass index categories was investigated in adults (n = 29 265) and children/adolescents (n = 6275); and their association with prevalent ASCVD.

The aim of this study is to demonstrate the potential of metabolomics as a tool for identifying biomarkers associated with obesity and its comorbidities in every age group. The presented systematic review makes an important contribution to the understanding of the potential of metabolomics in identifying biomarkers of obesity and its complications, especially considering the influence of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), amino acids (AAs) and adipokines on the development of T2DM, MAFLD, and CVD.

Eruptive Syringoma-Clinical, Dermoscopic, and Reflectance Confocal Microscopy Features.

We present an interesting image of eruptive syringoma confirmed by histopathological assessment in a 37-year-old male who was consulted due to numerous brownish small macules and papules resembling maculopapular cutaneous mastocytosis (MPCM). We show difficulties in diagnosing ES, given its rare occurrence and resemblance to other dermatological disorders. Moreover, we discuss the role of dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy in the differential diagnosis of syringoma.

Oligogenic risk score for Gilles de la Tourette syndrome reveals a genetic continuum of tic disorders.

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) and other tic disorders (TDs) have a substantial genetic component with their heritability estimated at between 60 and 80%. Here we propose an oligogenic risk score of TDs using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data from a group of Polish GTS patients, their families, and control samples (n = 278). In this study, we first reviewed the literature to obtain a preliminary list of 84 GTS/TD candidate genes.

The European Clozapine Task Force is a group of psychiatrists and pharmacologists practicing in 18 countries under European Medicines Agency (EMA) regulation, who are deeply concerned about the underuse of clozapine in European countries. Although clozapine is the most effective antipsychotic for people with treatment-resistant schizophrenia, a large proportion of them do not have access to this treatment. Concerns about clozapine-induced agranulocytosis and stringent blood monitoring rules are major barriers to clozapine prescribing and use.
