Reducing Stress and Promoting Social Integration of International Medical Students through a Tandem Program: Results of a Prospective-Program Evaluation.

Medical students, and especially international medical students (IMS), have been shown to experience more psychological distress than the general student population in Germany. In order to address these issues, a structured Tandem Program (TP) to reduce stress and foster social integration of IMS has been introduced at the Medical Faculty of Tuebingen. The Tandem Program was evaluated prospectively with perceived stress (PSQ-20) as the main outcome.

Objective: Body image (BI) disturbances are one of the core symptoms of anorexia nervosa (AN). They have been shown to be associated with depression and anxiety at all treatment stages and are a reliable predictor of relapse. Purpose: Impulsivity might contribute to the development and maintenance of obesity and eating disorders. Patients suffering from binge eating disorder (BED) show an impulsive eating pattern characterized by regular binge eating episodes. Novel behavioral interventions increasing inhibitory control could improve eating behavior in BED.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the influence of the COMT Val(108/158)Met polymorphism on trait and behavioural impulsivity in binge eating disorder (BED). COMT Val(108/158)Met has been related to impulsivity in previous studies, but so far no study has investigated the role of this polymorphism in the context of BED.

Method: Impulsivity was assessed via a questionnaire (trait) and on a behavioural level via the antisaccade task in a sample of 69 participants classified into one out of three age-matched groups: (1) obese individuals with BED according to DMS-IV (BED+); (2) obese individuals without BED, matched with the BED+ sample according to body weight (OBED-); and (3) normal-weight healthy controls (NWC).

Objectives: Malignant vascular tumors of the liver are rare. The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability of gray scale and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in patients with epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) of the liver and hepatic angiosarcoma (HA) and to describe the clinical presentation.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed all patients with epithelioid hemangioendothelioma or hemangiosarcoma of the liver from 1998 to 2011, who underwent ultrasound investigation.

Internet use among patients with psychosomatic disorders: what are the health-related demands and needs?

While Internet-based health-related offers for various disorders are increasing, little is known about the way patients with psychosomatic disorders use the Internet. We conducted a questionnaire survey in outpatient clinics at two university hospitals' Departments of Psychosomatic Medicine. Seventy-four percent of N = 274 patients had Internet home access and 60 percent of those patients reported health-related Internet use.

Olfactory deficits in patients with anorexia nervosa.

Background: Patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) often show gastrointestinal symptoms and have altered gastrointestinal functions. Olfaction is part of the predigestive function and plays an important role in the selection of food and the control of food intake. The question arises if patients with eating disorders have changes in olfactory functions as well.
