Background: Nowadays, much hope and expectations are associated with digitization in the health sector. The digital change also affects health-related self-help. A nationwide survey of self-help organizations (SHOs) aimed to show chances and limitations in the use of interactive IT tools like webforums, online meetings or social media as well as digital infrastructures for their organizational management.

Background: Although guidelines for the management of HIV infection include recommendations for aging people living with HIV (PLWH), clinical practice of European HIV care providers may vary.

Method: We performed a study using a 3-phase Delphi methodology by involving a panel of clinicians with expertise in HIV infection clinical management. The main aim of the study was to assess the care provider prospective on how HIV clinical care should be delivered to ageing PLWH.

We set out to investigate whether beta oscillations in the human basal ganglia are modulated during reinforcement learning. Based on previous research, we assumed that beta activity might either reflect the magnitudes of individuals' received reinforcements (reinforcement hypothesis), their reinforcement prediction errors (dopamine hypothesis) or their tendencies to repeat versus adapt responses based upon reinforcements (status-quo hypothesis). We tested these hypotheses by recording local field potentials (LFPs) from the subthalamic nuclei of 19 Parkinson's disease patients engaged in a reinforcement-learning paradigm.

December 2017

a Centre of Study and Research on Road Safety, Section of Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology, Department of Public Health, Experimental and Forensic Medicine , University of Pavia, Pavia , Italy.

This study analyzed the most common types of accident involving bicycles and compared the frequency of injuries. The data source was the database of German In-Depth Accident Study (GIDAS). Cases consist of bicycles and their riders involved in accidents between 2000 and 2010.

Do long-chain omega-3 fatty acids protect from atopic dermatitis?

J Dtsch Dermatol Ges

September 2015

Division of Immunodermatology and Experimental Allergology, Department of Dermatology, Allergology, and Venereology, Medical University Hanover, Hanover, Germany.

Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential for human nutrition. The number of double bonds determines whether a given fatty acid is termed two, three, or x times unsaturated. Depending on the distance of the first double bond from the fatty acid's methyl group, one distinguishes omega-3 fatty acids from omega-6 fatty acids.

Differential contributions of the globus pallidus and ventral thalamus to stimulus-response learning in humans.

November 2015

Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, 10115 Berlin, Germany; Computer Science, Chemnitz University of Technology, Chemnitz 09111, Germany. Electronic address:

The ability to learn associations between stimuli, responses and rewards is a prerequisite for survival. Models of reinforcement learning suggest that the striatum, a basal ganglia input nucleus, vitally contributes to these learning processes. Our recently presented computational model predicts, first, that not only the striatum, but also the globus pallidus contributes to the learning (i.

Increased T-cell turnover is associated with spondyloarthritis in virally suppressed patients with HIV-1 infection.

HIV Med

April 2015

Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, Medical University Hanover, Hanover, Germany; Laboratory of Immunology, Center for Public Health Research (CRP-Santé), Luxembourg.

Objectives: Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is one of the most frequently observed inflammatory joint diseases in HIV-1-seropositive patients. T-cells were described frequently as one of the major driving forces in SpA, therefore we tried to look for T-cell aberrancies in our HIV-positive patients with SpA.

Methods: A total of 1098 files for HIV-positive patients who attended the HIV out-patient clinic of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the Medical University Hanover for at least one visit between January 2004 and December 2010 were screened for the presence of a diagnosis of SpA.

This study has considered demands placed on protective clothes for motorcyclists together with observed benefits and limitations for absorbing loads and preventing injuries. In this study, 1933 accidents involving injured motorcyclists, collected by an in-depth investigation team at ARU-MUH, were analysed to find the detailed injury patterns comparing persons with and without protective clothes. The parameters influencing the force reduction are discussed comparing impact speed, elasticity coefficient and thickness of the materials used in special protectors.

In axial computed tomography it is possible to measure the intercondylar angle at the intersection of the longitudinal axes of the condyles. Published values range from 131 to 165 degrees. This angle was determined here in two groups of patients with (n = 22) and without (n = 12) temporomandibular joint dysfunction.

We studied muscle fatigue and serum lactate and pyruvate levels in 20 patients with mitochondrial myopathy with progressive external ophthalmoplegia (PEO). Fatigue was assessed in the adductor pollicis muscle (AP) using a low-intensity exercise protocol (20 min). Forces (TFs) and relaxation times of ulnar nerve evoked twitches, compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs), and maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs) were monitored.
