Objectives: Many studies have explored the association between handgrip strength and metabolic syndrome; however, the findings are inconsistent due to the different types of indicators used to assess handgrip strength (absolute vs. relative handgrip strength). This prospective cohort study aimed to simultaneously investigate the associations of both absolute and relative handgrip strength with metabolic syndrome, and to compare the predictive abilities of these two measures among Chinese adults.

Background: Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and metabolic syndrome (MetS) have a high prevalence of co-morbidities and both pose a significant threat to human health and survival. It has been suggested that Hp infection affects the development of MetS in the host, but the causal relationship between the two has not been confirmed.

Methods: We conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization study to investigate the causal effect of Hp infection with MetS and its components.

The search period covered from the establishment of these databases up to August 24, 2023.

Background: Ectopic thyroid tissue is a developmental disorder and is extraordinarily rare to occur in the central airway. To our knowledge, nearly few reports of primary ectopic thyroid carcinoma in the central airway with a normal eutopic thyroid gland have been published to date. This is the second case about malignant central airway obstruction caused by primary ectopic thyroid carcinoma.

Background: Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt surgery is the primary treatment for patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). This study compared the outcomes of VP shunt placement using electromagnetic (EM) navigation versus standard methods in patients with iNPH, focusing on catheter accuracy and postoperative complication rates.

Methods: This retrospective study included 31 patients with iNPH who underwent standard shunt placement using anatomical landmarks and 50 patients who underwent EM-guided shunt placement.

Intra- and inter-network connectivity abnormalities associated with surgical outcomes in degenerative cervical myelopathy patients: a resting-state fMRI study.

Resting-state functional MRI (fMRI) has revealed functional changes at the cortical level in degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) patients. The aim of this study was to systematically integrate static and dynamic functional connectivity (FC) to unveil abnormalities of functional networks of DCM patients and to analyze the prognostic value of these abnormalities for patients using resting-state fMRI. In this study, we collected clinical data and fMRI data from 44 DCM patients and 39 healthy controls (HC).
