Article Synopsis
  • Diarrhea caused by NOVC (non-O1/O139-group e) is typically mild, but a strain (XXM) was isolated from a 68-year-old surgical patient in October 2023.
  • Identification of XXM involved advanced techniques like MALDI-TOF MS and whole genome sequencing, showing it was sensitive to all tested antibiotics and lacked the virulence gene.
  • The genomic analysis revealed multiple virulence genes and a genetic similarity to another NOVC strain, contributing to a better understanding of NOVC pathogenicity in clinical contexts.

This study aims to summarize the prognosis and risk factors of nonoperative treatment patients of hip fracture with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). A total of 113 individuals of hip fracture with nonoperative treatment were retrospectively enrolled, 38 patients with ESRD were defined as the observation group, and the other 75 patients without ESRD were served as the control group. The difference in 30-day and 1-year mortality rate between the 2 groups was compared.

Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with consequent heart failure is one of the leading causes of death in humans. The aim of this study was to develop a prediction model to identify heart failure risk in patients with AMI during hospitalization.

Methods: The data on hospitalized patients with AMI were retrospectively collected and divided randomly into modeling and validation groups at a ratio of 7:3.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated the effectiveness of urgent, early, and late endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures in treating acute cholangitis (AC), a serious condition with high mortality risk.
  • - Results showed no significant differences in in-hospital mortality or technical success rates among the three groups, but urgent and early ERCP led to shorter hospital stays compared to late ERCP.
  • - Overall, while urgent and early ERCP didn't improve mortality or success rates, they did result in a shorter length of hospital stay compared to late ERCP.

Background: Selective cannulation, which is essential for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), may be difficult. The aim of this study was to compare transpancreatic sphincterotomy (TPS) and needle-knife precut (NKP) in difficult cannulation during ERCP.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrials.

Background: The optimal timing for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for acute cholangitis (AC) has not been unequivocally established.

Aims: To perform a meta-analysis of the outcomes associated with particular timings of ERCP for AC.

Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted for studies of ERCP for AC, and then a meta-analysis of the in-hospital mortality (IHM), 30-day mortality, and length of hospital stay (LHS) was performed.

Article Synopsis
  • - Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common disease that ranks as the second leading cause of death globally, but its connection with cerebrovascular-specific mortality (CVSM) is not well understood.
  • - A study analyzing CRC patients diagnosed from 1973 to 2015 revealed that CVSM rates in these patients were significantly higher than in the general population, with factors like age, surgery, and tumor location influencing CVSM risk.
  • - Findings indicate a potential link between CRC and increased CVSM incidence, highlighting significant risk factors that could guide treatment and prevention strategies for cerebrovascular diseases in CRC patients.
