Isolated Thoracic Spine Intramedullary Metastasis from Primary Ovarian Carcinoma: A Rare Case Report.

Ovarian carcinoma is one among the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Most commonly it metastasizes within peritoneal cavity by transcoelomic spread; distant metastasis to central nervous system through hematogenous spread is rare, and intramedullary spread is even rarer. Till date, only six reports have identified isolated intramedullary metastasis to spinal cord in a patient who were considered disease free on follow-up after treatment of primary disease; of which only two were in dorsal spine.

Cryotherapy: Tips and Tricks.

Cryotherapy using liquid nitrogen as cryogen is a well-established therapeutic modality in dermatology. In recent times, there have been many innovations and improvisation of cryotherapy for various dermatological disorders. In this article, we present a short comprehensive collation of practically useful points of cryotherapy covering the various aspects of procedure-planning, patient selection, storage and delivery techniques, and challenging clinical scenarios which can enhance the utility of this efficacious and economic treatment option.

Pubic Diastasis in Polytrauma Patients: Traumatic or Congenital?: A Report of 2 Cases.

Case: We report 2 patients who were involved in high-velocity road traffic accidents. Both these patients had congenital pubic diastasis with very subtle clinical and radiological signs that were misdiagnosed as posttraumatic diastasis on initial radiographic evaluation.

Conclusion: Trauma surgeons should be aware of this anomaly because congenital pubic diastasis could present without any major clinical signs and could easily be mistaken for a traumatic diastasis.

Endovascular Therapy in Paediatric Dissecting Intracranial Aneurysm: A Case Report.

The incidence of cerebral aneurysms is rare in children, and it has to be definitively ruled out in all cases of intracranial bleed even if there is associated history of trauma. We report a case of 11-month-old girl who presented with intracranial bleed after a history of minor trauma whose diagnosis of an intracranial aneurysm was initially missed which later led to a rebleed. It was managed emergently with endovascular coiling and the patient showed incredible recovery in the post-operative period.

Introduction: Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHCys) is an independent risk factor for various diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer's, and cancers. Folate deficiency is one of the significant reasons for HHCys. However, it is not known whether folate deficiency with HHCys is associated with any serum metabolites.

Adequate dermabrasion of recipient site is a crucial step in vitiligo surgery. We suggest the use of a commercially available mechanized abrader as an economical and efficient tool for dermabrasion especially in resource poor settings.

Comparison of Phenotypic MRSA Detection Methods with PCR for Gene in the Background of Emergence of Oxacillin-Susceptible MRSA.

Phenotypic methods for detection of methicillin resistance in (MRSA) can be inaccurate due to heterogeneous expression of resistance and due to environmental factors that influence the expression of resistance. This study aims to compare various phenotypic methods of detection of methicillin resistance with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for gene and to detect the presence of oxacillin-susceptible MRSA (OS-MRSA). A total of 150 isolates were tested using cefoxitin disk diffusion, oxacillin salt agar (OSA), latex agglutination test for penicillin binding protein 2a antigen, chromogenic MRSA ID agar, and PCR.

Yet another utility for isocitrate dehydrogenase.1: Can it serve as an immunomarker to assess tumor margins in gliomas?

Background: Isocitrate dehydrogenase-1 (IDH1) mutation is now an established early event in gliomagenesis. The ability to detect this mutation by several techniques including immunohistochemistry makes it a significant marker for diagnosing and prognosticating gliomas. This study was done to assess the expression of mutant IDH1 in different grades of gliomas and evaluate its utility in differentiating reactive gliosis from glioma and defining surgical margins of these tumors in the operative specimens.

Clinical and onychoscopic characteristics of subungual glomus tumor: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Subungual glomus tumor is a relatively uncommon entity with varied clinical presentations which may lead to diagnostic delays. Onychoscopy can be used as an evaluation tool in routine evaluation of glomus tumors.

Objectives And Methods: With an aim to characterize the onychoscopic features of subungual glomus tumors, we analyzed 15 cases presenting over 3 years, in this observational study.

Introduction: Leptin is known to regulate pathways of energy metabolism, reproduction, and control appetite. Whether plasma leptin levels reflect changes in metabolites of these pathways is unknown.

Objectives: We aimed to find whether there is an association between leptin levels and levels of metabolites of energy and hormone metabolism.

Treatment of Locked Pubic Symphysis by Distraction Osteotomy of the Superior Pubic Ramus: A Case Report.

Case: An 18-year-old adolescent sustained a lateral compression injury to the pelvis that featured a locked pubic symphysis with plastic deformation of the sacrum. The pubic bone was entrapped in the opposite obturator foramen and required a novel distraction osteotomy of the superior ramus to restore the symphysis. The patient developed a urethral stricture 3 months after injury that required urethroplasty.
