Erythropoietin-producing hepatocyte receptor A2 (EphA2) is an attractive target for immunotherapy due to its high expression in a variety of solid tumors including prostate cancer. Among various types of immunotherapeutics, chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy has made promising progress in hematological and solid tumors. Here, we detected the expression of EphA2 in prostate cancer cells and developed a second-generation CAR targeting EphA2 with CD28 as a co-stimulatory receptor to explore its tumor suppressive potential for prostate cancer in vitro and in vivo.

Background: The roles of Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) and the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury are well established. The translocation of β-catenin into the nucleus is critical for regulating neuronal apoptosis, repair, and neurogenesis within the ischemic brain. It has been reported that the scaffold domain of Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) (residues 95-98) interacts with β-catenin (residues 330-337).

Introduction: Insulin and C-peptide played crucial roles as clinical indicators for diabetes and certain liver diseases. However, there has been limited research on the simultaneous detection of insulin and C-peptide in trace serum. It is necessary to develop a novel method with high sensitivity and specificity for detecting insulin and C-peptide simultaneously.

Unlabelled: The gut microbiota and cancer have been demonstrated to be closely related. However, few studies have explored the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) microbiota in patients with lung cancer (LC), specifically the microbiota related to progression-free survival (PFS) in LC. A total of 216 BALF samples were collected including 166 LC and 50 benign pulmonary disease (N-LC) samples, and further sequenced using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing.

Bacterial species within the Acinetobacter baumannii-calcoaceticus (Acb) complex are very similar and are difficult to discriminate. Misidentification of these species in human infection may lead to severe consequences in clinical settings. Therefore, it is important to accurately discriminate these pathogens within the Acb complex.

In photothermal therapy (PTT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) of cancer, poor performance of nanoagents severely impaired the therapeutic effect of cancer. To solve the problem, we proposed and constructed a novel Mn doped CuS phothermal nanoagent both in the first near-infrared (NIR-I) and the second near- infrared (NIR-II) windows in this work, which exhibited high photothermal conversion efficiency of 40.3% at 808 nm (NIR-I window) and 33.

At present, vaccine coverage is quite high in countries around the world. Since individual differences are unavoidable, it is necessary to assess the efficacy of the vaccine in each vaccinated person in order to reflect the protective effect of the vaccine in different populations.

Background: Complex immune-brain interactions that affect neural development, survival and function might have causal and therapeutic implications for psychiatric illnesses. However, previous studies examining the association between immune inflammation and schizophrenia (SCZ) have yielded inconsistent findings.
Methods: Comprehensive two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to determine the causal association between immune cell signatures and SCZ in this study.

To understand the clinical characteristics of bloodstream infection and the main risk factors affecting clinical prognosis, providing a reference for clinical prevention and control of bloodstream infection. In this study, the clinical data of 152 patients with bloodstream infection admitted to Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital from January 2019 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed by reviewing the electronic medical record system, including underlying diseases, clinical characteristics, risk factors, and bacterial resistance. Statistical methods such as Chi-Squared Test and Test were used to analyze the related risk factors that may affect the clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients with and methicillin-resistant (MRSA) bloodstream infection, then the variables with <0.

Fabricating more sensitive, stable and low-cost nanomaterials for the detection of glucose is important for the disease diagnosis and monitoring. Herein, we established a nanocomposite (polypyrrole bridging GO@Au@MnO) as a novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoprobe for the quantitative detection of glucose in trace serum. Each component in the nanocomposites played an irreplaceable role in SERS detection of glucose.

Here, we reported a universal surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-based lateral flow assay (LFA) for highly sensitive detection of foodborne bacteria in food and environmental samples using wheat germ agglutinin (WGA)-modified FeO@Au (Au@MNP-WGA) nanotags. The Au@MNP-WGA tag with numerous intraparticle hotspots was integrated into the LFA system for the first time, which can not only greatly improve the detection sensitivity through the dual amplification effect of magnetic enrichment and SERS enhancement but also achieve the broad-spectrum capture of multiple bacteria.

A disintegrin and metalloprotease-10(ADAM10) promotes the metastasis of prostate cancer (PCa), but the specific mechanism is indistinct. Herein, DU145 cell lines with stable overexpression and knockdown of ADAM10 were constructed. We found that ectopic expression of ADAM10 not only significantly facilitated cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibited apoptosis, but also could specifically hydrolyze ephrin-A5 and release the ephrin-A5 soluble ectodomain into extracellular media in vitro.

In clinical settings, rapid and accurate diagnosis of antibiotic resistance is essential for the efficient treatment of bacterial infections. Conventional methods for antibiotic resistance testing are time consuming, while molecular methods such as PCR-based testing might not accurately reflect phenotypic resistance. Thus, fast and accurate methods for the analysis of bacterial antibiotic resistance are in high demand for clinical applications.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAccording to the sit-and-wait hypothesis, long-term environmental survival is positively correlated with increased bacterial pathogenicity because high durability reduces the dependence of transmission on host mobility. Many indirectly transmitted bacterial pathogens, such as and , have high durability in the external environment and are highly virulent. It is possible that abiotic stresses may activate certain pathways or the expressions of certain genes, which might contribute to bacterial durability and virulence, synergistically.

Background: Radiation-induced heart disease has been reported, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), also residing in the heart, are highly susceptible to radiation. We examined the hypothesis that the altered secretion of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from MSCs is the trigger of radiation-induced heart disease.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread widely in the communities in many countries. Although most of the mild patients could be cured by their body's ability to self-heal, many patients quickly progressed to severe disease and had to undergo treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Thus, it is very important to effectively predict which patients with mild disease are more likely to progress to severe disease.
