Purpose: We previously showed the beneficial effect of L-Lysine (Lys), a chemical chaperone, on reducing diabetic complications in diabetic rats and type 2 diabetic patients. Herein, we evaluated the effect of Lys co-administration with Vitamin C and Zinc (Lys+VC+Zn), in diabetic rats.
Methods: The streptozotocin (50 mg/Kg) was injected into male adult Wistar rats to induce diabetes.

To some extent, cell therapy for myocardial infarction (MI) has supported the idea of cardiac repair; however, further optimizations are inevitable. Combined approaches that comprise suitable cell sources and supporting molecules considerably improved its effect. Here, we devised a strategy of simultaneous transplantation of human cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs) and an optimized oxygen generating microparticles (MPs) embedded in fibrin hydrogel, which was injected into a left anterior descending artery (LAD) ligating-based rat model of acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Background: Different genioplasty techniques are applied for the adjustment of chin area deformities such as chin deviation.
Results: Thirty patients with simple facial asymmetry due to chin deviation underwent computer-assisted horizontal translational osseous genioplasty. In this technique, a surgical guide was used to cut a bone strip from the side where the chin should be transferred to; then, the same bone strip was used for the filling of the gap that was formed on the opposite side.

Cell therapy has become a novel promising approach for improvement of cardiac functional capacity in the instances of ventricular remodeling and fibrosis caused by episodes of coronary artery occlusion and hypoxia. The challenge toward enhancing cell engraftment as well as formation of functional tissue, however, necessitated combinatorial approaches. Here, we complemented human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiac progenitor cell (hESC-CPC) therapy by heparin-conjugated, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-loaded fibrin hydrogel as VEGF delivery system.

: Obesity plays an important role in the development of chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. A low resting metabolic rate (RMR) for a given body size and composition is a risk factor for obesity, however, there is limited evidence available regarding the association of nutrient patterns and RMR. The aim of this study was to determine the association of nutrient patterns and RMR in overweight and obese women.

Objectives: This study aims to examine the alteration in coronary haemodynamics with increasing the severity of vessel compression caused by myocardial bridging (MB).
Methods: Angiography and intravascular ultrasound were performed in 10 patients with MB with varying severities of systolic compression in the left anterior descending (LAD) artery. Computer models of MB were developed and transient computational fluid dynamics simulations were performed to derive distribution of blood residence time and shear stress.

The detrimental cardio-toxic effect of doxorubicin, an effective chemotherapeutic agent, limited its clinical use. It has been claimed that doxorubicin cardio-toxicity occurs through calcium ions (Ca) overload and reactive oxygen species production. Agmatine, an endogenous imidazoline receptor agonist, induce uptake of cytosolic Ca and cause an increase in activity of calcium pumps, including Ca-ATPase.

Background: Although the analysis of molecular clonality rearrangements of the immunoglobulin light chains (IGK and IGL) is an alternative approach for diagnosis of B cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs) using BIOMED-2 protocols, NHLs have not been extensively confirmed for Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) cases. We evaluated BIOMED-2 protocols in HL cases, which have been suggested previously as gold standard method for molecular clonality analysis on formalin fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue in NHL patients.
Methods: We recruited 50 consecutive FFPE tissues of HL samples to evaluate IGK and IGL clonality gene rearrangements using BIOMED-2 and Heteroduplex methods.

Background: Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the essential religious practices of Muslims. The aim of this study was to evaluate opsonisation, phagocytosis, and nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction by white blood cells in normal, healthy, male subjects under non-fasting (before Ramadan) and fasting (after Ramadan) conditions.
Methods: In this study, 13 Muslim men, aged 28-54 years, whose health was confirmed by health application forms, gave blood samples one week before the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and during the last week of Ramadan.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and clinical course of urinary tract infection (UTI) in neonates with septicemia and also determine the most common UTI manifestations in hospitalized neonates.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on consecutive febrile infants aged 1 to 56 days that were hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit. In all neonates with positive urine culture, scintigraphy with technetium-99m -labeled dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) and ultrasonography (US) were done.

Some differences in behavioral characteristics have been attributed to atopic dermatitis (AD). In this study, AD patients compared with healthy toddlers had significantly higher scores in perceptual sensitivity and high pleasure in an early childhood behavior questionnaire (ECBQ). They tended to be more energetic and impulsive, and also showed more excitement when subjected to novel stimuli.

Purpose: The concept of "prosthetic-driven implantology" may be considered a turning point in the history of modern dental implantology. On the basis of this sophisticated approach, the available bone and the optimal prosthetic position of the future restoration are checked before surgical intervention. However, the major drawback of today's prosthodontic discipline is that it is inherently 2-dimensional in nature, which may prevent the appropriate treatment; this problem can be overcome by the 3-dimensional capability of a computer-assisted approach when performed judiciously.

After nearly 60years, lithium is still the mainstay in the treatment of mood disorders. In addition to its antimanic and antidepressant effects, lithium also has anticonvulsant properties. Similar to lithium, agmatine plays a protective role in the central nervous system against seizures and has been reported to enhance the effect of different antiepileptic agents.
