Background: The objective of this study is to document our experience using low-profile endografts for the endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) in cases where access arteries are challenging, commonly referred to as hostile access arteries.
Methods: Data regarding patients with narrow or tortuous access arteries who underwent endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) using low-profile endografts at 3 tertiary medical centers between January 2020 and December 2022 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. A total of 76 patients were enrolled in the study.

Objectives: To evaluate the added value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) on top of breast conventional imaging for predicting the upgrading of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) to invasive cancer after surgery.
Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 140 biopsy-proven DCIS lesions in 138 patients and divided them into two groups based on postoperative histopathology: non-upgrade and upgrade groups. Conventional ultrasound (US), mammography (MMG), CEUS and clinicopathological (CL) features were reviewed and compared between the two groups.

Background: Brain arteriovenous malformation (BAVM) is one of the most common causes of cerebral hemorrhage in children. The effectiveness of one-stop hybrid operation in the treatment of BAVM in adults has been widely confirmed, but there are few study for the case in children. The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze of the role and significance of one-stop hybrid surgery versus microsurgery in the treatment of BAVM in children.

Background: The interplay between gut microbiota and metabolites in the early stages of sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) is not yet clearly understood. This study explores the characteristics and interactions of gut microbiota, and blood and urinary metabolites in patients with SA-AKI.
Methods: Utilizing a prospective observational approach, we conducted comparative analyses of gut microbiota and metabolites via metabolomics and metagenomics in individuals diagnosed with SA-AKI compared to those without AKI (NCT06197828).

The use of endovascular stent-graft has become an important option in the treatment of aortic pathologies. However, the currently used endograft membranes have limited ability to prevent bacterial colonization. This makes them unsuitable for the treatment of mycotic aneurysms, as the infection is prone to progress after endograft implantation.

Background: The goals of operative treatment for unilateral coronal synostosis (UCS) are to improve appearance and allow unrestricted brain growth. However, for severe unilateral premature closure of the coronal suture, existing methods do not address the compression of the brain or expand the volume of the skull cavity. We report our retrospective experience with bilateral fronto-orbital advancement combined with cranial vault release using a free-floating bone flap (CVR + FFBF) technique and the resulting changes in the anterior cranial vault asymmetry index (ACVAI) and intracranial volume.

Purposes: To establish a normative range of MemTrax (MTx) metrics in the Chinese population.
Methods: The correct response percentage (MTx-%C) and mean response time (MTx-RT) were obtained and the composite scores (MTx-Cp) calculated. Generalized additive models for location, shape and scale (GAMLSS) were applied to create percentile curves and evaluate goodness of fit, and the speed-accuracy trade-off was investigated.

Previously, we found that the incidence of kidney injury in patients with chronic hypoxia was related to the partial pressure of arterial oxygen. However, at oxygen concentrations that contribute to kidney injury, the changes in the relationship between microRNAs (miRNAs) and the hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α)-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) axis and the key miRNAs involved in this process have not been elucidated. Therefore, we elucidated the relationship between VEGF and kidney injury at different oxygen concentrations and the mechanisms mediated by miRNAs.

Protecting the integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is crucial for maintaining brain homeostasis after ischemic stroke. Previous studies showed that M2 microglial extracellular vesicles (EVs) played a neuroprotective role in cerebral ischemia. However, the role of M2 microglial EVs in maintaining BBB integrity is unclear.

Prenatal single and combined exposure to lead (Pb) and stress (Ps) impairs neurodevelopment. Prenatal single exposure to Pb or Ps affects the composition of intestinal microbiota, and bidirectional communication between gut microbiota and central nervous system has been well recognized. However, whether gut microbiota mediated the effects of prenatal Pb+Ps co-exposure on neurodevelopmental deficits remains unclear.

Background: Although the measurement of central venous pressure (CVP) is a common clinical tool, the role of CVP monitoring in the outcome of sepsis is controversial because threshold values of CVP are uncertain, and there are only limited data on short-term survival of patients with septic acute kidney injury (AKI).
Methods: This retrospective cohort study was based on the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database (source of the training dataset). Multivariate regression analysis was performed to clarify the relation between CVP measurement and clinical outcomes, and a univariate regression model after propensity score matching was utilized to validate our findings.

As conserved enzymes with important functions, aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase are expressed ubiquitously in cells. These include cytoplasmic aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase, mitochondrial aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase and bifunctional aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase. Mitochondrial aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases catalyze the binding of amino acids with its corresponding tRNA in the mitochondria and participate in the translation of 13 subunits of oxidative phosphorylation enzyme complexes encoded by the mitochondrial genome.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) represents the serious vascular degenerative disorder, which causes high incidence and mortality. Alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG), a crucial metabolite in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, has been reported to exert significant actions on the oxidative stress and inflammation. However, its role in AAA still remains elusive.

High-power radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation was considered as a promising alternative strategy to conventional-power ablation in the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). This study sought to compare the efficacy and safety of high-power energy delivery to that of conventional-power setting in AF catheter ablation. We performed a systematic review of relevant literature in Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane library, and Google Scholar database.

As a frequently occurring infectious disease mainly caused by Candida albicans, vulvovaginal candidosis (VVC) affects more than 100 million women worldwide every year. Multiple factors that influence C. albicans colonisation have been linked to the incidence of VVC, including high levels of circulating oestrogen due to pregnancy, the use of oral contraceptives, and hormone replacement therapy.
