Myoblast is a kind of activated muscle stem cell. Its biological activities, such as proliferation, migration, differentiation, and fusion, play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the skeletal muscle system. These activities of myoblasts can be significantly influenced by the extracellular matrix.

Objective: Both porous metal cones and metaphyseal sleeves are excellent implants for reconstructing severe bone defects in the knee joint, but they both exhibit design limitations. The porous metal cone, especially, has significant room for improvement in its shape design. The existing porous metal cones often feature a conical external surface with a relatively small taper, potentially compromising both rotational and axial stability.

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics, coexisting gene mutations and prognosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients with gene mutation.
Methods: The clinical data of 370 newly diagnosed AML patients treated in our hospital from January 2008 to January 2021 was analyzed retrospectively, the next-generation sequencing technology was used to detect the mutated genes in those patients. The clinical characteristics of AML patients with mutations, the co-mutated genes of mutations, and the effect of mutation on prognosis were analyzed.

The widespread application of implantable materials has brought about a corresponding increase in implant-related complications, with implant-associated infections being the most critical. Biofilms, which often form on these implants, can significantly impede the effectiveness of traditional antibiotic therapies. Therefore, strategies such as surgical removal of infected implants and prolonged antibiotic treatment have been acknowledged as effective measures to eradicate these infections.

Background: This study aimed to develop a computed tomography (CT) model to predict Ki-67 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to examine the added value of radiomics to clinico-radiological features.
Methods: A total of 208 patients (training set, n = 120; internal test set, n = 51; external validation set, n = 37) with pathologically confirmed HCC who underwent contrast-enhanced CT (CE-CT) within 1 month before surgery were retrospectively included from January 2014 to September 2021. Radiomics features were extracted and selected from three phases of CE-CT images, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression (LASSO) was used to select features, and the rad-score was calculated.

Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) has become the third leading cause of AKI acquired in hospital, lacking of effective interventions. In the study, we identified the renal beneficial role of 2, 2-dimethylthiazolidine hydrochloride (DMTD), a safer compound which is readily hydrolyzed to cysteamine, in the rodent model of CI-AKI. Our data showed that administration of DMTD attenuated the impaired renal function and tubular injury induced by the contrast agent.

Background: Treatment modalities of ependymoma in infants remain controversial. Postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy could prolong overall survival but has the potential to affect nervous system development in infants. The role of adjuvant chemotherapy in prolonging overall survival for infants with ependymoma is still unclear.

Background: The pathophysiology of trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs) is poorly understood at present. Symptomatic TACs are rarely reported in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). To better clarify this distinct clinical manifestation in NMOSD and to investigate its possible pathophysiology, we reviewed articles describing such cases including our own case.

Introduction: Microbial function changes may be responsible for dental pulp transformation from normal to diseased. However, studies on the prediction and verification of the function of the microbial community in the deep dentine and pulp of caries-induced pulpitis are lacking.
Methods: This study included 171 cases of deep dentinal caries divided into normal pulp (NP), reversible pulpitis (RP), and irreversible pulpitis (IRP).

Objectives: While many studies have presented excellent short-term outcomes of the metaphyseal sleeves used in revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA), currently published mid-term results remain limited and some controversial issues remain unresolved. The purpose of this study was to investigate clinical and radiographic mid-term outcomes of the sleeves for the management of metaphyseal bone defects in revision TKAs.
Methods: From 2015 to 2019, 44 patients (45 knees) who were operated with cementless porous-coated metaphyseal sleeve in revision TKA were included in this study.

Objective: Surgeon handedness has been widely discussed in operative surgery, and could cause clinical discrepancy. However, few studies have reported the effect of handedness on unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). Based on our clinical observation and case analysis, we aimed to find out the effects of surgeon handedness on UKA.

An increasing number of studies have provided evidence for the hypothesis that the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD) may derive from the gut. Firstly, Lewy pathology can be induced in the enteric nervous system (ENS) and be transported to the central nervous system (CNS) via the vagal nerve. Secondly, the altered composition of gut microbiota causes an imbalance between beneficial and deleterious microbial metabolites which interacts with the increased gut permeability and the gut inflammation as well as the systemic inflammation.

Background: With the development of radiology and three-dimensional (3D) printing technology, custom-made 3D-printed titanium augments have been more widely used. However, the radiological and clinical outcomes of custom-made augments lack reports. To better understand the clinical effect of using 3D-printed titanium augments and the significance of accurate placement, the aim of this study was to assess the outcomes when using custom-made 3D-printed titanium augments and to validate the idea that surgical simulation should be done before designing custom-made augments.

Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) involves complex immunomodulatory interactions between pathogens, biomaterials, and hosts, and correlates with alterations in the ratio of immune cells as well as in the concentration of immune checkpoint molecules.Prosthesis, biofilm, microorganisms, and host constitute a special and complex immune microenvironment.Fully studying the characteristics of immune microenvironment and potential targets of immunotherapy in orthopedic implant-associated infections are expected to provide a new direction for clinical treatment of PJI.

Objective: To develop a neural network architecture based on deep learning to assist knee CT images automatic segmentation, and validate its accuracy.
Methods: A knee CT scans database was established, and the bony structure was manually annotated. A deep learning neural network architecture was developed independently, and the labeled database was used to train and test the neural network.
Objective: To explore and analyze the change of pelvic sagittal tilt (PST) after total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with bilateral Crowe type IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH).
Methods: The study retrospectively evaluated 43 patients with bilateral Crowe type IV DDH undergoing THA from January 2008 to June 2019 who were followed up for 12 months postoperatively. Four parameters, including the ratio between the height and width of the obturator foramina(H/W ratio), the vertical distance between the upper edge of the symphysis and the middle of the sacrococcygeal joint (SSc distance), the vertical distance between the upper edge of the symphysis and the line connecting bilateral hip centers (SC distance) and the vertical distance between the upper edge of the symphysis and the line connecting the bilateral lower ends of the sacroiliac joints (SSi distance), which could indirectly reflect the change of PST, were observed and measured by radiographs.

Esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) is one of the main subtypes of esophageal cancer. The incidence rate of EAC increased progressively while the 5-year relative survival rates were poor in the past two decades. The mechanism of EAC has been studied extensively in relation to genetic factors, but less so with respect to human microbiota.
