Among all cancers occurring in the head and neck region, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common oral malignant tumours characterized by its aggressiveness and metastasis. The development of transcriptomics technology has greatly facilitated the diagnosis of various cancers. However, identifying genetic biomarkers is limited by data from a single batch of OSCC samples, and integrating analysis across different platforms remains a great challenge.

In previous literatures, we found that similar studies on the short-term prognosis of synchronous brain metastases (S-BM) from other systems are rare. Our aim was to evaluate the early mortality rate of patients with S-BM from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result (SEER) database and explore the risk factors for early mortality (≤ 1 year). We used Kaplan-Meier (KM) curves to evaluate early mortality in patients with S-BM from the SEER database.

The healing of critical-sized bone defects is a major challenge in the field of bone tissue engineering. Gelatin-related hydrogels have emerged as a potential solution due to their desirable properties. However, their limited osteogenic, mechanical, and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-scavenging capabilities have hindered their clinical application.

Background: Transient ischemic attack (TIA) induces ischemic tolerance that can reduce the subsequent ischemic damage and improve prognosis of patients with stroke. However, the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Recent advances in plasma metabolomics analysis have made it a powerful tool to investigate human pathophysiological phenotypes and mechanisms of diseases.

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a primary cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Currently, no clinically approved immune intervention is available for AIS treatment, partly due to the lack of relevant patient classification based on the peripheral immunity status of patients with AIS. In this study, we adopted the consensus clustering approach to classify patients with AIS into molecular subgroups based on the transcriptomic profiles of peripheral blood, and we identified three distinct AIS molecular subgroups and 8 modules in each subgroup by the weighted gene co-expression network analysis.

To explore the relationship between PD-L1 expression and gene mutations and survival. PD L1, ALK and MET protein expression were detected by immunohistochemistry, and EGFR gene mutation by RT-PCR in 209 cases of NSCLC. The correlations between PD-L1 expression and gene mutations, clinicopathological features and survival was analyzed.

The progression of early childhood caries (ECC) is caused by microbial colonized in dental plaque. However, the association framework both from 16s genus down to high resolution metagenomic strain level and from composition to genome function analysis on caries lacks. 16S rRNA sequence revealed the composition of 3-6 years dental caries (ECC, = 29), and severe dental caries (SECC, = 36) children are significantly different from caries-free controls (CF, = 31).

After a sublethal ischemic preconditioning (IPC) stimulus, the brain has a remarkable capability of acquiring tolerance to subsequent ischemic insult by establishing precautionary self-protective mechanism. Understanding this endogenous mechanism would reveal novel and effective neuroprotective targets for ischemic brain injury. Our previous study has implied that telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) is associated with IPC-induced tolerance.

The seed of Cuscutae Semen has been used as a functional food to prevent osteoporosis and aging, and improve sexual function in Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, there is a little report on its beneficial effects on osteoporosis. The purpose of our study was to explore whether Cuscutae Semen polysaccharide (CSP) could prevent osteoporosis induced by estrogen deficiency in the ovariectomized rat model.

Background: Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most important complications in patients with diabetes. The etiology and pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy remain unclear. Several studies have indicated that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play crucial regulatory roles in numerous human diseases and normal physiology; however, to date, no study has focused on the comprehensive expression profile of circRNAs in the kidneys of diabetic mice.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common gynecologic endocrinopathy, characterized by menstrual disorders, ovulation disorders, polycystic ovary, hyperandrogen syndrome and insulin resistance. At present, the etiology and exact pathogenesis of PCOS are still unclear. Anti-Müllerian hormone is a local regulator secreted by ovarian granulosa cells, and participates in regulating the occurrence and development of PCOS.

Background: Recent studies have reported the involvement of microRNA-29 (miR-29) family members in human cancers through their ability to regulate cellular functions. The present study investigated biological function of miR-29b in colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: CRC tissues and adjacent normal tissues were collected and the expression of ETV4 and miR-29b in the tissues were identified.

Objective: The aim is to develop a novel noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) method that simultaneously performs fetal aneuploidy screening and the detection of de novo and paternally derived mutations.
Methods: A total of 68 pregnancies, including 26 normal pregnancies, 7 cases with fetal aneuploidies, 7 cases with fetal achondroplasia or thanatophoric dysplasia, 18 cases with fetal skeletal abnormalities, and 10 cases with β-thalassemia high risk were recruited. Plasma cell-free DNA was amplified by Targeted And Genome-wide simultaneous sequencing (TAGs-seq) to generate around 99% of total reads covering the whole-genome region and around 1% covering the target genes.

A novel electrochemical sensor based on dual-template molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) with nanoporous gold leaf (NPGL) was established for the simultaneous determination of dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA). NPGL acts as an enlarged loading platform to enhance sensing capacity, and the MIP layer was synthesized in situ in the presence of monomer and dual templates (DA and UA) to provide specific recognition. Under the optimal conditions, the sensor shows a good linear range of 2.

Background: Manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) induces FoxM1 expression, subsequently contributing to migration in several cancer cells. Isovitexin (ISOV) was recently found to downregulate MnSOD and FoxM1, decreasing stemness in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) stem-like cells (HCSLCs). The current study aimed to determine whether inhibition of migration, invasion and EMT in HCSLCs by ISOV results from MnSOD/FoxM1 signaling blockade and subsequent Twist1, Slug, ZEB1 and MMP-2 downregulation.

Background: We previously demonstrated that isovitexin (apigenin-6-C-glucoside, ISOV) suppressed the stemness of human Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) cells. However, the mechanism of its action remains to be deciphered.
Objective: The current study was to examine whether ISOV regulates the miR-34a expression and hence suppresses the stemness of HCC SK-Hep-1 cells.

Background: Whether DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1)/miR-34a/FoxM1 signaling promotes the stemness of liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs) remains unclear. This study aimed to assess whether methylation-based silencing of miR-34a by DNMT1 contributes to stemness features via FoxM1 upregulation in LCSCs.
Methods: The CD133 subgroup of MHCC97H cells sorted by MACS was used as LCSCs.

Blood vessels in tumors often exhibit abnormal morphology and function, which promotes the growth, metastasis and resistance of tumors to conventional therapies. Therefore, vascular normalization is an emerging strategy to enhance the effectiveness of radiotherapy and chemotherapy when used in combination; however, there is a lack of evidence regarding the optimal schedule for the co-administration of anti-angiogenic and chemotherapeutic drugs. Scheduling treatment is important as the period for normalization is transient, also known as the 'time window'; however, no biomarker has been identified to detect this window.
