EORTC consensus recommendations for the treatment of mycosis fungoides/Sézary syndrome - Update 2023.

On behalf of the EORTC Cutaneous Lymphoma Tumours Group (EORTC-CLTG) and following up on earlier versions published in 2006 and 2017 this document provides an updated standard for the treatment of mycosis fungoides and Sézary syndrome (MF/SS). It considers recent relevant publications and treatment options introduced into clinical practice after 2017. Consensus was established among the authors through a series of consecutive consultations in writing and a round of discussion.

The role of the desmosomal protein desmocollin 2 in tumour progression in triple negative breast cancer patients.

Background: The disruption of epithelial features represents a critical step during breast cancer spread. In this context, the dysregulation of desmosomal proteins has been associated with malignant progression and metastasis formation. Curiously, both tumour suppressive and pro-metastatic roles have been attributed to desmosomal structures in different cancer entities.

Ovarian Cancer-Cell Pericellular Hyaluronan Deposition Negatively Impacts Prognosis of Ovarian Cancer Patients.

Background: Hyaluronan (HA), a component of the extracellular matrix, is frequently increased under pathological conditions including cancer. Not only stroma cells but also cancer cells themselves synthesize HA, and the interaction of HA with its cognate receptors promotes malignant progression and metastasis.

Methods: In the present study, HA deposition in tissue sections was analyzed by hyaluronan-binding protein (HABP) ligand histochemistry in 17 borderline tumors and 102 primary and 20 recurrent ovarian cancer samples.

Post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and the associated factors among children and adolescents with a history of maltreatment in Uganda.

Unlabelled: Worldwide, children who grow up under adverse conditions risk the development of mental health problems. However, reliable data on the estimated magnitude of mental disorders of PTSD, depression and their associated factors among maltreated children and adolescents in low- and middle-income-countries (LMICs) is still lacking. This study estimated the magnitude of PTSD, depression and the associated factors among the children and adolescents with ahistory of maltreatment in Southwestern Uganda.

Induction of 8-oxo-dGTPase activity in human lymphoid cells and normal fibroblasts by oxidative stress.

The pre-mutagen 8-Oxo-2'-deoxyguanosine-5'-triphosphate (8-oxo-dGTP) is formed during normal cellular metabolism and its incorporation into DNA leads to transversion mutations. Human cells possess the hMTH-1 gene encoding the enzyme 8-oxo-dGTPase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of 8-oxo-dGTP to the corresponding 8-oxo-dGMP, preventing mutations. To elucidate the involvement of 8-oxo-dGTPase in carcinogenesis, we studied hMTH-1 gene expression and enzyme activity in response to oxidative stress to human skin fibroblasts and Jurkat cells.

Promoter upstream elements of the chicken cardiac myosin light-chain 2-A gene interact with trans-acting regulatory factors for muscle-specific transcription.

A segment of the 5'-flanking region of the chicken cardiac myosin light-chain gene extending from nucleotide -64 to the RNA start site is sufficient to allow muscle-specific transcription. In this paper, we characterize, by mutational analysis, sequence elements which are essential for the promoter activity. Furthermore, we present evidence for a negative-acting element which is possibly involved in conferring the muscle specificity.
