Background: Existing studies investigating the impact of serum calcium (Ca), phosphate (P), 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D), and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels on kidney function have produced inconsistent results. Further research is needed to establish the direct causal relationship between these factors and kidney function.
Methods: The study used genome-wide association study datasets for exposure and outcome, mainly derived from the UK Biobank and CKDGen Consortium, with sample sizes ranging from 3,310 to 480,699 individuals of European ancestry.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability worldwide, with its severity potentially exacerbated by seawater immersion. Ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, has been implicated in TBI pathogenesis. However, the specific occurrence and underlying mechanisms of ferroptosis in the context of TBI compounded by seawater immersion remain unclear.

Background: Inhibition of indolamine-2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) has been proposed as a promising strategy for cancer immunotherapy; however, it has failed in clinical trials. Macrophages in the tumor microenvironment (TME) contribute to immune escape and serve as potential therapeutic targets. This study investigated the expression pattern of IDO1 in TME and its impact on prognosis and therapeutic response of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Bisphenol A (BPA), chemically known as 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane, is one of the most common endocrine-disrupting chemicals in our environment. Long-term or high-dose exposure to BPA may lead to testicular damage and adversely affect male reproductive function. In vivo studies on rodents have demonstrated that BPA triggers apoptosis in testicular cells through both intrinsic and extrinsic pathways.

During assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment, the aged women, especially those over 35 years old, have fewer mature oocytes and poorer quality of the oocytes comparing with the young women. In vitro maturation (IVM) technology facilitates the usage of immature oocytes, which is clinically important for the aged women. However, the maturation rate is low for the oocytes from the aged women.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a new nomenclature proposed in 2023. We aimed to compare the diagnostic efficacy of noninvasive tests (NITs) for advanced fibrosis under different nomenclatures in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). A total of 844 patients diagnosed with CHB and concurrent steatotic liver disease (SLD) by liver biopsy were retrospectively enrolled and divided into four groups.

Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease, which leads to muscle weakness and eventual paralysis. Numerous studies have indicated that mitophagy and immune inflammation have a significant impact on the onset and advancement of ALS. Nevertheless, the possible diagnostic and prognostic significance of mitophagy-related genes associated with immune infiltration in ALS is uncertain.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are novel inflammatory cell death in neutrophils. Emerging studies demonstrated NETs contributed to cancer progression and metastases in multiple ways. This study intends to provide a prognostic NETs signature and therapeutic target for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients.

Background: Neoantigens have emerged as a promising area of focus in tumor immunotherapy, with several established strategies aiming to enhance their identification. Human leukocyte antigen class I molecules (HLA-I), which present intracellular immunopeptides to T cells, provide an ideal source for identifying neoantigens. However, solely relying on a mutation database generated through commonly used whole exome sequencing (WES) for the identification of HLA-I immunopeptides, may result in potential neoantigens being missed due to limitations in sequencing depth and sample quality.

Background: Previous observational studies have been controversial regarding the association of leukocyte telomere length (LTL) with prostate cancer (PCa) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Methods: First, we conducted an observational study utilizing UK Biobank data. The correlation between LTL and the risk of PCa and BPH was evaluated via multivariate-adjusted logistic regression.

Heatstroke (HS) causes multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) with a mortality rate of 60% after hospitalization. Currently, there is no effective and targeted approach for the treatment of HS. Despite growing evidence that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) may reduce multiorgan damage and improve survival through immunomodulatory effects in several diseases, no one has tested whether MSCs have immunomodulatory effects in heatstroke.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore which therapeutic strategy is more beneficial for elderly esophageal cancer (EC) patients with distant metastasis, the treatment utilization status and the screening of factors related to prognosis, so as to better guide the treatment of these patients.
Methods: Patients in the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database were divided into chemoradiotherapy (Group A), chemotherapy (Group B), radiotherapy (Group C), and no treatment (Group D) according to different treatment methods. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to adjust for baseline differences between the two groups.

Background: Despite encouraging results from immunotherapy combined with targeted therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the prognosis remains poor. Chemokines and their receptors are an essential component in the development of HCC, but their significance in HCC have not yet been fully elucidated. We aimed to establish chemokine-related prognostic signature and investigate the association between the genes and tumor immune microenvironment (TIME).

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) and aztreonam-avibactam (AZA) against bloodstream infections (BSIs) or lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) - caused by extensive drug-resistant or pan drug-resistant (XDR/PDR)
Method: The two-fold dilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of CZA/AZA against XDR/PDR . Whole-genome sequencing was used to analyze the resistance determinants of each isolate. Monte Carlo simulations (MCSs) were used to evaluate the probability of target attainment (PTA) and the cumulative fraction of response (CFR) of each CZA/AZA dosing regimen traditional infusion (TI)/optimized two-step-administration therapy (OTAT).

Background: Previous observational studies have indicated that metabolic abnormalities are associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The limitations of the research methodology of observational studies do not allow causal inference to be drawn; however, Mendelian randomization (MR) can clarify this.
Methods: Using summary-level data from genome-wide association studies, we conducted a two-sample MR study to examine the causality of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components on BPH (26,358 BPH cases and 110,070 controls).
