Cardiotoxicity is a significant complication of chemotherapeutic agents in cancer patients. Cardiovascular incidents including LV dysfunction, heart failure (HF), severe arrhythmias, arterial hypertension, and death are associated with high morbidity and mortality. Risk stratification of cancer patients prior to initiation of chemotherapy is crucial, especially in high-risk patients for cardiotoxicity.

Fetal exposure in adverse environmental factors during intrauterine life can lead to various biological adjustments, affecting not only in utero development of the conceptus, but also its later metabolic and endocrine wellbeing. During human gestation, maternal bone turnover increases, as reflected by molecules involved in bone metabolism, such as vitamin D, osteocalcin, sclerostin, sRANKL, and osteoprotegerin; however, recent studies support their emerging role in endocrine functions and glucose homeostasis regulation. Herein, we sought to systematically review current knowledge on the effects of aforementioned maternal bone biomarkers during pregnancy on fetal intrauterine growth and metabolism, neonatal anthropometric measures at birth, as well as on future endocrine and metabolic wellbeing of the offspring.

Background: Hypertension is a major cardiovascular risk factor in both kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) and patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is considered the gold-standard method for hypertension management in these subjects. This is the first study evaluating the full ambulatory blood pressure (BP) profile and short-term BP variability (BPV) in KTRs versus CKD patients without kidney replacement therapy.

Child sexual abuse (CSA) has been associated with mental health disorders throughout life during childhood, adolescence and adulthood; one of the most prevalent mental health conditions after CSA is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The present systematic review and meta-analysis aims to examine the association between CSA and PTSD in children and adolescents, evaluating also the role of potential effect modifiers, such as gender and geographic region. Participants were sexually abused (vs.

The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to critically assess the published literature related to community-acquired viral co-infections and COVID-19 and to evaluate the prevalence, most identified co-pathogens, and relevant risk factors. Furthermore, we aimed to examine the clinical features and outcomes of co-infected compared to mono-infected COVID-19 patients. We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, and The Cochrane Library for studies published from 1 November 2019 to 13 August 2021.

Muscular dystrophies are a group of disorders that cause progressive muscle weakness. There is an increasing interest for the development of biomarkers for these disorders and specifically for Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. Limited research however, has been performed on the biomarkers' development for the most rare muscular dystrophies, like the Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy, Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and Myotonic Dystrophy type 2.

Muscular dystrophies are a group of rare and severe inherited disorders mainly affecting the muscle tissue. Duchene Muscular Dystrophy, Myotonic Dystrophy types 1 and 2, Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy are some of the members of this family of disorders. In addition to the current diagnostic tools, there is an increasing interest for the development of novel non-invasive biomarkers for the diagnosis and monitoring of these diseases.

Dulaglutide is a once-weekly injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that has shown a durable glycemic efficacy as well as beneficial effects on body weight and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) outcomes, making it an important option for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Common side effects of dulaglutide include nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal distension, and these are usually mild to moderate in severity and tend to diminish over time. Morbilliform drug eruptions to dulaglutide are very rare, with only one case reported until now.

Due to their higher risk of developing life-threatening COVID-19 disease, solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients have been prioritized in the vaccination programs of many countries. However, there is increasing evidence of reduced immunogenicity to SARS-CοV-2 vaccination. The present study investigated humoral response, safety, and effectiveness after the two mRNA vaccines in 455 SOT recipients.

An unbiased, automated and reliable method for analysis of brain lesions in tissue after ischemic stroke is missing. Manual infarct volumetry or by threshold-based semi-automated approaches is laborious, and biased to human error or biased by many false -positive and -negative data, respectively. Thereby, we developed a novel machine learning, atlas-based method for fully automated stroke analysis in mouse brain slices stained with 2% Triphenyltetrazolium-chloride (2% TTC), named "StrokeAnalyst", which runs on a user-friendly graphical interface.

The combination of Resminostat (HDACi) and Ruxolitinib (JAKi) exerted cytotoxic effects and inhibited proliferation of CTCL cell lines (MyLa, SeAx) in previously published work. A xenograft tumor formation was produced by implanting the MyLa or SeAx cells on top of the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM). The CAM assay protocol was developed to monitor the metastatic properties of CTCL cells and the effects of Resminostat and/or Ruxolitinib in vivo.

The present study presents the clinical outcome of SARS-CoV-2 disease in relation to the humoral response in fully vaccinated solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. Our patient cohort consists of 455 SOT recipients, vaccinated with one of the 2 approved mRNA vaccines. The antibody response was measured 1 month after the second dose, and previously infected patients have been excluded.

Increased maternal food intake is considered a normal pregnancy adjustment. However, the overavailability of nutrients may lead to dysregulated fetal development and increased adiposity, with long-lasting effects on offspring in later life. Several gut-hormone molecules regulate maternal appetite, with both their orexigenic and anorectic effects being in a state of sensitive equilibrium.

Background: Hyperkalaemia is a frequent and potentially life-threatening condition in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Even after successful kidney transplantation (KTx), KTx recipients have mild to severe CKD. Moreover, they share comorbid conditions and frequently use medications that predispose to hyperkalaemia.

Inadequate weight loss or weight regain after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) occurs in more than a quarter of patients for various reasons. Available remedying treatment options include endoscopic and surgical techniques for revision of the gastric pouch and the gastro-jejunal anastomosis, conversion of standard to distal gastric bypass (DRYGBP) or the conversion of RYGBP to biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) or duodenal switch (DS). There is quite a variability concerning the technical simplicity, safety, and effectiveness of these techniques and the small number of patients in the numerous single-center reports precludes any meaningful comparisons.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is the most common adult-onset muscular dystrophy, primarily characterized by muscle wasting and weakness. Many biomarkers already exist in the rapidly developing biomarker research field that aim to improve patients' care. Limited work, however, has been performed on rare diseases, including DM1.
