Background: Postoperative pain usually occur in patients who have undergone functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). Remimazolam and dexmedetomidine could enhance the quality of recovery (QoR) after surgery. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of remimazolam and dexmedetomidine with respect to the QoR-40 score of patients who have undergone FESS.

Purpose: This research sought to evaluate the clinical value of systemic immune-inflammation index and systemic inflammation response index in predicting the response to radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy in individuals diagnosed with differentiated thyroid cancer.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective study included 406 patients with differentiated thyroid cancer who received initial RAI therapy and follow-up from December 2019 to December 2023. Patients were divided into two groups based on imaging and serum indicators to evaluate the response to radioactive iodine treatment: the ER group (excellent response) and the non-ER group (suboptimal response).

Background: Estimation of global diabetes burden in adolescents and young adults (10-24 years) from 1990 to 2021.
Methods: Data were extracted from the 2021 Global Burden of Disease Study. Joinpoint regression analysis was employed to examine trends over the past 30 years, frontier analysis identified regions with potential for improvement, and the slope index of inequality and the relative concentration index were used to assess health inequalities.

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a complex pathophysiological process, and increasing attention has been paid to the important role of post-synaptic density (PSD) proteins, such as glutamate receptors. Our previous study showed that a PSD protein Arc/Arg3.1 (Arc) regulates endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and neuronal necroptosis in traumatic injury in vitro.

Aims: The Stress Hyperglycemia Ratio (SHR) potently predicts adverse outcomes in patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, the relationship between SHR and short-term mortality risk in patients with a first diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains contentious. This study sought to understand better the relationship between SHR and short-term mortality risk in patients with a first diagnosis of AMI.

Introduction: Our objective in this study was to prepare a novel type of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement, analyze its material properties, and evaluate its safety and antibacterial efficacy.
Methods: A halamine compound methacrylate antibacterial PMMA bone cement containing an N-Cl bond structure was formulated, and its material characterization was determined with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and H-NMR. The antibacterial properties of the material were studied using contact bacteriostasis and releasing-type bacteriostasis experiments.

There are no effective therapies for severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), and existing predictors of mortality are still controversial. This retrospective study aimed to identify reliable early-stage indicators for predicting fatal outcomes in 217 patients hospitalized with an SFTS diagnosis between March 2021 and November 2023; 157 of the patients survived, and 60 died. Demographics, clinical characteristics, and laboratory parameters were reassessed in both groups.

Background: Our objective is to describe the current prevalence and death of ischemic heart disease (IHD) in women of childbearing age (WCBA) at the global, regional, and national levels and to analyze its temporal trends from 1990 to 2019.
Methods: WCBA was defined as women aged 15-49 years. Estimates and 95% Uncertainty Intervals (UI) of IHD prevalence and death numbers for seven age groups were extracted from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study.

Background: To describe the burden and examine transnational inequities in overall cardiovascular disease (CVD) and ten specific CVDs across different levels of societal development.
Methods: Estimates of disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for each disease and their 95% uncertainty intervals (UI) were extracted from the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD). Inequalities in the distribution of CVD burdens were quantified using two standard metrics recommended absolute and relative inequalities by the World Health Organization (WHO), including the Slope Index of Inequality (SII) and the relative concentration Index.

Although in vitro experiments have demonstrated the potential of flavonoid compounds in regulating blood pressure, there is still a lack of evidence from large population studies. We conducted a cross-sectional study using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to investigate the relationship between flavonoid intake levels (natural log transformation) and hypertension events. A total of 15 752 participants aged over 20 years were included, and a weighted multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between total flavonoids, five sub types intake, and hypertension events.

Background: Epidemiological studies on cardiovascular diseases (CVD) among women of childbearing age (WCBA) remain scarce. Our research aims to delineate the prevalence trends of CVD within this population over the past three decades, considering age, period, and birth cohort dynamics.
Methods: Estimates of CVD prevalence for WCBA, along with their 95% uncertainty intervals (UI), were extracted from the Global Burden of Diseases 2019 ().

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of four natural product extracts, namely, aloe-emodin, quercetin, curcumin, and tannic acid, on the in vitro bacteriostatic properties and biocompatibility of gentamicin-loaded bone cement and to establish an experimental groundwork supporting the clinical utility of antibiotic-loaded bone cements (ALBC).
Methods: Based on the components, the bone cement samples were categorized as follows: the gentamicin combined with aloe-emodin group, the gentamicin combined with quercetin group, the gentamicin combined with curcumin group, the gentamicin combined with tannic acid group, the gentamicin group, the aloe-emodin group, the quercetin group, the curcumin group, and the tannic acid group. Using the disk diffusion test, we investigated the antibacterial properties of the bone cement material against Staphylococcus aureus (n = 4).

The transition from acute inflammation to fibrosis following myocardial ischemia‒reperfusion (MIR) significantly affects prognosis. Macrophages play a pivotal role in inflammatory damage and repair after MIR. However, the heterogeneity and transformation mechanisms of macrophages during this transition are not well understood.

Background: The inflammation and immune response contribute to ischemic stroke pathology. Damaged brain cells release inflammatory substances to activate the immune system in the acute phase of stroke, including altering the interferon signaling pathway. However, the involvement of histone deacetylation in stroke remains unclear.

Post-stroke anxiety (PSA) is a kind of affective disorder occurring after a stroke, with anxiety as the primary clinical manifestation. PSA's mechanism is unclear, and there are few prevention and treatment measures. Our previous study found that HDAC3 could activate NF-κB signaling through mediated p65 deacetylation, which further influenced microglia activation.

Mitophagy, the selective removal of damaged mitochondria through autophagy, is crucial for mitochondrial turnover and quality control. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an essential omega-3 fatty acid, protects mitochondria in various diseases. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective role of DHA in ischaemic stroke models and and its involvement in mitophagy and mitochondrial dysfunction.

Background: Current evidence demonstrates that blood glucose fluctuation can be associated with depression and anxiety. The association among blood glucose fluctuation, traditional risk factors and emotional disorders in T2DM should be studied and clarified.
Methods: A total of 182 diabetic patients including 81 patients with depression or anxiety and 101 patients without emotional disorder were enrolled into this study.

It is unclear whether the face perceptual processing, especially the perceptual computation in early stages of processing faces, impaired in young patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). In this study, the face perception was investigated by analyzing the early ERP components in response to upright and inverted faces versus objects. Across all conditions, both the P1 and the N170 components were similar in MDD patients versus in the controls, regardless of latencies or amplitudes.
