Background & Objective: Asymptomatic microhematuria (aMh) remains a diagnostic challenge in urological practice: while aMh is a risk factor of urothelial carcinoma (UC), prevalence of aMh is high. Guidelines were developed to permit risk stratification and reduce diagnostic workload. This study investigates the efficacy of several recommendations.

Background: A recent meta-analysis showed that penile cancer (PeC) is associated with the human papilloma virus (HPV) in 50 % of patients in Europe. It is unknown whether urologists are aware of the impact of viral carcinogenesis.

Methods: A (German-language) survey comprising 14 items was created and sent to urologists of 45 clinical centres in Germany (n = 34), Austria (n = 8), Switzerland (n = 2) and Italy/South Tyrol (n = 1) once in Q3/2018.

Unlabelled: Arachidonic acid (AA) is metabolized to eicosanoids and isoprostanes (IPs) via different pathways. The presence of granuloma in apical periodontitis (AP) is linked with inflammation and the synthesis of metabolites of AA.

Objective: We investigated the conversion rate of (14)C labelled arachidonic acid ((14)C-AA), the lipoxygenases (LOX) products and the endogenous synthesis of eicosanoids and IPs in extracted granuloma.

Hand-foot syndrome is a localized cutaneous side effect associated with the administration of several chemotherapeutic agents, including the oralfluoropyrimidine capecitabine (Xeloda). It is never life-threatening but can develop into a painful and debilitating condition that interferes with patients' normal daily activities and quality of life. Several symptomatic/prophylactic treatments have been used to alleviate hand-foot syndrome, but as yet there is insufficient prospective clinical evidence to support their use.

Purpose: To analyze the correlation between dose-volume histograms based on organ contour and organ wall delineation for bladder and rectum, and to compare the doses to these organs with the absorbed doses at the ICRU bladder and rectum reference points.

Material And Methods: Individual MRI based brachytherapy treatment planning was performed in 15 patients as part of a prospective comparative trial. The external contours and the organ walls were delineated for the bladder and rectum in order to compute the corresponding dose-volume histograms.

Purpose: The purpose of this comparative prospective study was to assess the effect of CT and MR based individualisation and adaptation on the dose distribution in the target volume and organs at risk compared to a radiography based procedure.

Material And Methods: In 15 patients MR scans, in 10 patients additional axial CT-scans with compatible tube-ring applicator in situ were performed and digitally transferred to the PLATO(R) planning system. Considering clinical examination and MR-scan before radiotherapy individual 3-D dose distribution was calculated and adapted based on (1) two orthogonal radiographs; (2) isodoses superimposed on the CT images; and (3) isodoses superimposed on the MR images.

Radical cavities and cochlear implantation.

Acta Otolaryngol

July 2001

Department of Otolaryngology, University of Vienna, Medical School Vienna, Austria.

Profoundly deaf patients with chronic suppurative otitis media have been contraindicated for cochlear implantation in the past. Complications such as infection of the radical cavity, fat necrosis, skin flap problems, change in electrode position and cholesteatoma have occurred in subjects with radical cavities. The aim is to create a dry, self-cleansing, infection-free cavity.

Purpose: Patients with diabetic retinopathy (DRP) seldom report symptoms of ocular surface irritation, but evaluations of dryness are pathologic. This study was designed to evaluate the correlation between the severity of DRP and dry eyes.

Methods: We included 144 eyes of 72 patients.

Fifty-seven (57) incarcerated sex offenders were assessed for their capacity to perceive interpersonal difficulties and experience related anxiety. The findings suggest that the men who have sexually transgressed against minors view themselves as easily exploitable and nurturant, and those who have sexually aggressed against adult females demonstrated minimal regard for external negative views of them. These two groups did not differ significantly from each other along social avoidance and non assertiveness dimensions.

The monoclonal antibody (MAb) Ki-67 detects a nuclear antigen expressed by proliferating cells during the entire cell cycle. In contrast to conventional histological techniques, the use of MAb Ki-67 on frozen sections or cytological smear preparations allows direct determination of the growth rate of tumors routinely. Sixty-two pituitary adenomas were investigated by use of the MAb Ki-67 in a two-step avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex technique.
