Calvarial defects of bone present difficult clinical situations, and their restoration using biocompatible materials requires special treatments that enable bone regeneration. Magnesium phosphate (MgP) is known as an osteoinductive biomaterial because it contains Mg ions and P ions that enhance the activity of osteoplast cells and help in bone regeneration. In this study, MgP and CuO-doped MgP were fabricated and characterized for their physicomechanical properties, particle size, morphology, surface area, antibacterial test, and in vitro bioactivity evaluation using the following techniques: X-rays diffraction, Fourier-transformer infrared, TEM, and Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) surface area, X-rays photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

This study investigated the effect of flavoured nanophytosomes loaded with vitamins A, E, D, B complex, folic acid, and C, as well as zinc on the immunosuppressive cyclosporin A (CsA)-induced liver and kidney injury in male rats. The vitamins flavoured nanophytosomes (VFnPs) were characterized in terms of particle size, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency. Ice cream was flavoured with star anise volatile oil to mask the VFnPs' flavour and unacceptable taste.

Impact of aerobic and resistance training on fatigue, quality of life, and physical activity in prostate cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Int J Surg

October 2024

Department of Allergy, Immunology and Pulmonary Medicine, Universidad Espíritu Santo, Samborondón, Ecuador, & Respiralab Research Group, Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a prevalent cancer with significant morbidity and mortality rates. In most cases, PCa remains asymptomatic until advanced disease manifests with symptoms, such as benign prostate hyperplasia. Timely detection and better management have improved overall survival in patients with PCa, and fatigue, reduced physical activity, and impaired quality of life (QoL) remain major challenges that impact daily life.

Fisetin Treats Kidney Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Apoptosis in Rat Diarrhea.

Front Biosci (Schol Ed)

December 2023

Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University, 12211 Giza Square, Giza, Egypt.

Background: Diarrhea is the increase in the excretion of human water; meanwhile, fisetin, a bioactive flavonol molecule, is widely used in the treatment/prevention of gastrointestinal disorders. The purpose of this study is to investigate the anti-diarrheal activity of fisetin by restoring kidney function, antioxidant activity, inflammatory markers, Na+/K+-ATPase level, apoptosis, and protein content in diarrheal rats.

Methods: A total of 36 male rats were distributed into two groups (18 rats/group): normal and diarrheal.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study involving 120 children categorized them into three groups: CAS, DLD, and NT, measuring their intelligence, language abilities, and plasma levels of certain neurotransmitters.
  • * The findings suggest that the imbalance of glutamate and GABA in children with CAS could be linked to their speech difficulties, highlighting the potential for biochemical markers to distinguish CAS from other language disorders.

Several neurological disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neurodegenerative disorders have a genetic element with various clinical presentations ranging from mild to severe presentation. Neurological disorders are rare multifactorial disorders characterized by dysfunction and degeneration of synapses, neurons, and glial cells which are essential for movement, coordination, muscle strength, sensation, and cognition. The cerebellum might be involved at any time, either during development and maturation or later in life.

Human Cytogenetic Department, Human Genetics and Genome Research Institute, National Research Center, Bohouth Street, 12311 Dokki, Cairo, Egypt.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) to detect copy number variations (CNVs) in azoospermic factor (AZF) regions, which are linked to male infertility.
  • In a sample of 40 infertile men, MLPA found CNVs in the AZFc region for 7 patients, while traditional STS-PCR only detected some deletions, highlighting its limitations.
  • The authors recommend broader application of MLPA for diagnosing Y chromosome microdeletions due to its effectiveness and cost-efficiency compared to other methods.
