Cisplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common and debilitating side effect of cisplatin chemotherapy used in cancer treatment. This study explored the neuroprotective effects of Trimetazidine (TRI) against CIPN by preserving nerve integrity, reducing neuro-oxidative stress, and alleviating neuroinflammation. Using a rat model of CIPN, we evaluated TRI's impact on motor coordination, pain sensitivity, and peripheral nerve histopathology.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a persistent condition characterized by high levels of glucose in the blood due to irregularities in the secretion of insulin, its action, or both. The disease was believed to be incurable until insulin was extracted, refined, and produced for sale. In DM, insulin delivery devices and insulin analogs have improved glycemic management even further.

This study aimed to identify the suitable induction protocol to produce highly qualified insulin producing cells (IPCs) from human adipose tissue derived stem cells (ADSCs) and evaluate the efficacy of the most functionally IPCs in management of diabetes mellitus (DM) in rats. The ADSCs were isolated and characterized according to the standard guidelines. ADSCs were further induced to be IPCs in vitro using three different protocols.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) lacks estrogen, progesterone, and human epidermal growth factor receptors and has a poor prognosis as it is resistant to chemotherapy. A new treatment option for this type of cancer may be by putting these malignant cells into dormancy. The oocyte's embryonic milieu presents a unique tumor reversion microenvironment by inducing growth arrest and changing cells' phenotypes.

Neuroinflammation is important in the pathophysiology of several degenerative brain disorders. This study looked at the potential neuroprotective benefits of cilostazol, a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, against LPS-induced hippocampus damage in rodents and the principal molecular involvement of AKT/GSK3/CREB signaling pathways. Behavioral tests revealed that cilostazol successfully corrected LPS-induced neurobehavioral impairments.

Myricetin (MYR) is a natural flavonoid that has several biological functions. However, some of its beneficial effects are diminished due to low water solubility, stability, and bioavailability. Herein, several kinds of silica nanoparticles (MCM-41 and SBA-15) were loaded with MYR to improve its biological activity as an analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory component, thereby overcoming its drawbacks.

in hepatocellular carcinoma: Tumor molecular basis, Wnt/β-catenin pathway role, and protective mechanism.

World J Gastroenterol

September 2024

Department of Medical Physiology, Medical Research and Clinical Studies Institute, National Research Centre, Giza 12622, Egypt.

In this editorial, we comment on the recent article by Huang The editorial focuses specifically on the molecular mechanisms of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), mechanism of Wnt/β-catenin pathway in HCC, and protective mechanism of (CB) in HCC. Liver cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related deaths globally. The most prevalent kind of primary liver cancer, HCC, is typically brought on by long-term viral infections (hepatitis B and C), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, excessive alcohol consumption, and other conditions that can cause the liver to become chronically inflamed and cirrhotic.

  • The study investigated the effects of Calotropis procera and its compounds calotropin (CLT) and gomphogenin (GPG) on osteoporosis in rats induced by ovariectomy.
  • Treatment with C. procera extract, CLT, and GPG for 14 days restored normal estradiol levels and improved bone health by regulating key biomarkers and increasing serum calcium and phosphorus.
  • CLT showed greater effectiveness than GPG in reducing bone turnover by inhibiting osteoclastic activity and facilitating calcium mineralization, confirmed through molecular docking studies.
