Interferometric near-infrared spectroscopy (iNIRS) is an optical method that noninvasively measures the optical and dynamic properties of the human brain . However, the original iNIRS technique uses single-mode fibers for light collection, which reduces the detected light throughput. The reduced light throughput is compensated by the relatively long measurement or integration times (∼1 sec), which preclude monitoring of rapid blood flow changes that could be linked to neural activation.

A new PSMA ligand (PSMA-D4) containing the Glu-CO-Lys pharmacophore connected with a new linker system (L-Trp-4-Amc) and chelator DOTA was developed for radiolabeling with therapeutic radionuclides. Herein we describe the synthesis, radiolabeling, and preliminary biological evaluation of the novel PSMA-D4 ligand. Synthesized PSMA-D4 was characterized using TOF-ESI-MS, NMR, and HPLC methods.

Monitoring of human tissue hemodynamics is invaluable in clinics as the proper blood flow regulates cellular-level metabolism. Time-domain diffuse correlation spectroscopy (TD-DCS) enables noninvasive blood flow measurements by analyzing temporal intensity fluctuations of the scattered light. With time-of-flight (TOF) resolution, TD-DCS should decompose the blood flow at different sample depths.

Experiments typically involve presenting to a volunteer a black-and-white checkerboard with contrast-reversing at a frequency of 4 to 16 Hz. The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of the flickering frequency on the amplitude of changes in the concentration of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin.

Background: There has been long-term interest in cladribine as a drug for the treatment of MS. The current study focused on the effect of cladribine on oligoclonal bands (OCB) expression in the CSF in relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) patients observed over 10 years.
Methods: 29 treatment-naive subjects with RRMS were prospectively enrolled and received induction therapy with subcutaneous parenteral cladribine (at a cumulative dose of 1.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a heterogeneous, mostly age-associated group of disorders characterized by progressive neuronal loss, the most prevalent being Alzheimer disease. It is anticipated that, with continuously increasing life expectancy, these diseases will pose a serious social and health problem in the near feature. Meanwhile, however, their etiology remains largely obscure even though all possible novel clues are being thoroughly examined.

Objective: We focused on identifying the requirements and needs of people suffering from Alzheimer disease and early dementia stages with relation to robotic assistants.
Methods: Based on focus groups performed in two centers (Poland and Spain), we created surveys for medical staff, patients, and caregivers, including: functional requirements; human-robot interaction, the design of the robotic assistant and user acceptance aspects. Using Likert scale and analysis made on the basis of the frequency of survey responses, we identified users' needs as high, medium, and low priority.

The purpose of the paper was to investigate the usefulness of posturographic analysis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA). RA is a chronic inflammatory disorder responsible for destruction of active and passive components of joints. It is the most common autoimmune disease, and the second most common form of arthritis after OA.

Hyperglycemia is well-recognized and has long-term complications in diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy. In podocytes, the main component of the glomerular barrier, overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the presence of high glucose induces dysfunction and increases excretion of albumin in urine. This suggests an impaired antioxidant defense system has a role in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy.

mtDNA common variation is inconsistently reported to modify the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD). We evaluated the impact of the mitochondrial haplogroups, subhaplogroups, coding and non-coding single-nucleotide polymorphisms on PD risk in 241 PD patients and 277 control subjects. After stratification by gender, we found that haplogroup J (OR 0.

The onset and sequence of motoneuron death in the lumbar part of spinal cord of seven control and five affected fetuses carrying deletion of exon 7 in the SMN gene were studied by light and electron microscopy. Naturally occurring motoneuron death in control fetuses was detected between 8 and 13 weeks of gestation. In affected fetuses motoneuron death was prolonged and also observed at 16 and 20 weeks of gestation.

A model study for the mechanism of cell death in vitro was established on the neuroblastoma N2a cell line. By differential staining of living cells with Hoechst 33258 and propidium iodide, or by Terminal-dUTP-Transferase-Nick-End Labelling (TUNEL), cJun/AP1 immunoreactivity, and DNA laddering, we show that the N2a cell line responded with apoptosis to protein kinase C (PKC) inhibition. Two different classes of PKC inhibitors (staurosporine and Gö6976) at concentrations generally regarded as PKC-selective (10 nM and 50 nM, respectively), significantly increased the number of apoptotic cells in N2a cultures.

Superior cervical ganglion (SCG) may play a modulatory role on ventilatory control through its efferent sympathetic fibres, which innervate cells in the carotid bodies. In this study the in vivo effect of acute hypoxia versus normoxia on arachidonic acid (AA) metabolism was investigated in cat SCG. Using SCG homogenate AA was incorporated into glycerolipids of normoxic SCG in the following order: neutral glycerolipids > phosphatidylcholine (PtdCh) > phosphatidylinositol (PtdIns) > phosphatidylethanolamine (PtdE) > phosphatidylserine (PtdS) > and phosphatidic acid (PA).
