ILVEN - COMPLETE REMISSION AFTER ADMINISTRATION OF TOPICAL CORTICOSTEROID (CASE REVIEW).

Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus (ILVEN) is a relatively rare disorder with an onset at early age, consisting of pruritic linear papules and/or plaques and histologic features resembling psoriasis or lichenoid dermatitis. The disease is a version of mosaicism caused by somatic mutations. ILVEN belongs to the heterogeneous group of congenital hamartomas of embryonal ectodermal origin, as a variant of verrucous epidermal nevus, representing approximately 5% of all epidermal nevi, with predominance in females and with general therapeutic resistance.

CARCINOSARCOMA OF SKIN (SARCOMATOID CARCINOMA) - A RARE NON-MELANOMA SKIN CANCER (CASE REVIEW).

Non-melanoma skin cancer incidence is rising worldwide. The leading neoplasias are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. We report on an 88-year-old female patient with a rapidly grown, symptomless, exophytic tumor of the supraclavicular area.

Interdigital melanoma simultaneously affecting two neighboring interdigital spaces : First description in the medical literature.

Background: Interdigital melanoma, as a subtype of acral lentiginous melanoma, is relatively uncommon in the Caucasian population. It frequently goes unrecognized for a prolonged period of time prior to diagnosis, due to its asymptomatic nature and variable clinical appearance.

Methods: We report the case of a 67-year-old Caucasian woman who presented with interdigital malignant melanoma affecting two neighboring interdigital spaces.

Multiple nonsyndromic acquired basal cell carcinomas : Uncommon clinical presentation in a Bulgarian patient.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most frequent cutaneous neoplasm, with slowly progressive nature and locally invasive behavior. Despite the low metastatic potential, local tissue destruction and disfigurement caused by the tumor can be large if not eradicated in time by early diagnosis and treatment. Both genetic predisposition and exposure to environmental risks are involved in the pathogenesis of the malignant transformation in BCC.

Undermining plastic surgery as a possible option for treating basal cell carcinoma of the forehead.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common cutaneous cancer. Although most cases can be cured with simple surgical procedures and are associated with a good prognosis, a minority of BCCs may pose significant therapeutic challenges. This occurs mostly in cases of so-called advanced BCC, which a loosely defined term that encompasses locally advanced lesions and tumors with metastatic spread.

Cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis during anti-TNFα therapy.

The long-term use of novel antipsoriatic systemic biotechnological drugs may increase susceptibility to opportunistic infections. Several cases of visceral leishmaniasis have been reported in immunosuppressed individuals, including those who have been treated with tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) blocking agents. Simultaneous occurrence of cutaneous and visceral involvement has been more rarely recorded in the medical literature.

Radiation-induced lichen sclerosus of the vulva : First report in the medical literature.

A 67-year-old woman presented with a firm plaque in the perineal region, 16 months after diagnosis of a high-grade basaloid squamous cell carcinoma of the vagina and treatment by external beam radiation therapy and vaginal cuff brachytherapy. The differential diagnosis included radiation-induced morphea, radiation dermatitis, or, possibly, radiation-induced lichen sclerosus. Biopsy findings, including special staining, confirmed the diagnosis of radiation-induced lichen sclerosus.

Trombiculiasis: not only a matter of animals!

Trombiculiasis represents a striking emerging infestation in humans. In fact, modified lifestyles and easy and quick traveling around the globe, together with the altered ecology and habits of the parasite Neotrombicula autumnalis, make this original epizoonosis an extraordinary example of synanthropic dermatosis. We present an additional clinical image of this unusual parasite transmission from animals to humans occurring in a trekker in Calabria, Italy.

Terra firma-forme dermatosis.

Terra firma-forme dermatosis (TFFD) belongs to the group of "dirty dermatoses" and represents a not well-known and surely underestimated vexing skin condition. Firstly described by Duncan, Tschen and Knox in 1987, it accounts for a few case series in the literature and has a still undefined aetiology. The authors present an additional report of TFFD, occurring in a young Caucasian girl, and briefly review the current medical literature on the topic.

Sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma.

We report the case of a 55-year-old woman who developed a mass in the soft tissue of the anterior right proximal thigh. Microscopic findings in the biopsy specimen supported the diagnosis of sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma (SEF). This entity is part of a spectrum of lesions that includes low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) and hyalinizing spindle cell tumor with giant rosettes (HSCTGR).

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease that affects 2-5% of the worldwide population. It is a chronic immune-mediated hyperproliferative inflammatory skin disease of unknown etiology, characterized by the appearance of sore patches of thick, red skin with silvery scales.

Quality of life aspects of patients with psoriasis using a series of herbal products.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting 1-3% of the general population. Due to the chronic nature of the disease, patients suffer from substantial psychosocial impact and impaired quality of life. Dr Michaels® (also branded as Soratinex®), an Australian series of topical herbal products, has been showing promising results for the treatment of patients with chronic plaque psoriasis and consequent improvement in their quality of life.

Efficacy and safety of Dr Michaels® (Soratinex®) product family for the topical treatment of psoriasis: a monitored status study.

The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of Michaels® (Soratinex®) remedies in patients suffering from chronic plaque psoriasis in a Czech population. Seventy-five (34 female/41 male) patients, aged 18-72 years old (mean age: 38.5 years) with mild to severe plaque psoriasis participated in the study.

Successful treatment of recalcitrant candidal intertrigo with Dr Michaels® (Fungatinex®) product family.

Candidal intertrigo is an infection of the skin caused by Candida albicans that typically occurs in opposing cutaneous or muco-cutaneous surfaces. Because Candidiasis requires a damaged and moist environment for infection, it typically occurs in areas of friction such as the skin folds of the body.
