Hydatid cysts, caused by the parasite, predominantly affect the liver and lungs, but can also impact other organs such as the kidneys, brain, and muscles. Infection occurs when individuals ingest eggs from contaminated food or water, leading to cyst formation primarily in the liver. While hydatid cysts are commonly found in various endemic regions, muscular involvement is rare, particularly in the psoas muscle.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most incapacitating neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). PD is the second most common NDD worldwide which affects approximately 1-2 percent of people over 65 years. It is an attractive pursuit for artificial intelligence (AI) to contribute to and evolve PD treatments through drug repositioning by repurposing existing drugs, shelved drugs, or even candidates that do not meet the criteria for clinical trials.

Introduction: The persistent sciatic artery (PSA) is a rare congenital vascular anomaly that arises when the embryonic axial artery fails to regress, potentially leading to serious complications such as limb ischemia.
Case Presentation: We report the case of a 47-year-old woman with a history of essential hypertension and recent hormonal treatment for uterine fibroids. She developed acute limb ischemia due to bilateral PSA thrombosis, which was confirmed through comprehensive imaging.

Aspergillus-related immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) is a challenge to diagnose in immunocompromised pediatric cancer patients with Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis (IPA). If not recognized, it can mimic disease progression and lead to overtreatment. Studies on Aspergillus-related IRIS in the pediatric population are scarce.

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic liver disease in human history and it is expected to surpass other causes of liver disease mortality by 2030. Therefore, finding an alternative way to diagnose steatosis in the early stage when imaging modalities are not available is crucial. This study decided to validate the optimal cut-off points and the sensitivity and specificity of the Fatty Liver Index (FLI) based on the Iranian population compared to ultrasonography.

Human craniofacial shape is highly variable yet highly heritable with numerous genetic variants interacting through multiple layers of development. Here, we hypothesize that Mendelian phenotypes represent the extremes of a phenotypic spectrum and, using achondroplasia as an example, we introduce a syndrome-informed phenotyping approach to identify genomic loci associated with achondroplasia-like facial variation in the general population. We compare three-dimensional facial scans from 43 individuals with achondroplasia and 8246 controls to calculate achondroplasia-like facial scores.

Human facial shape, while strongly heritable, involves both genetic and structural complexity, necessitating precise phenotyping for accurate assessment. Common phenotyping strategies include simplifying 3D facial features into univariate traits such as anthropometric measurements (e.g.

The efficacy of opportunistic osteoporosis screening with computed tomography (CT) scans obtained for other indications has not yet been implemented by the current guidelines. We aimed to compile available evidence on the efficacy of osteoporosis screening with CT scans obtained for other indications compared with dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Studies comparing the diagnostic performance of the CT scan with the DXA published before 2023 were retrieved.

Purpose: Solutions of iodine-based compounds, due to their high X-ray attenuation coefficient, are widely used as contrast agents in computed tomography (CT) imaging. This paper investigates the attenuation properties of iodine and gold to develop nanoparticle-based contrast agents, for example, composite nanoparticles (NPs) with layers of iodine and gold or a mixture of NPs of gold and iodine.
Materials And Methods: A theoretical formula is derived that gives the Hounsfield Unit (HU) for different weight-by-weight (w/w) concentrations of a mixture of blood + iodine + gold.

Background: The relationship between kidney and vascular health is acknowledged, but detailed information is still missing. This study examines the relationship of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and carotid intima media thickness, providing insights into the association between atherosclerosis and kidney function.
Methods: Participants older than 50 years of age who were part of the PolyIran-L study, a trial nested in the Golestan Cohort Study, were included.

Background: Advanced imaging techniques play a pivotal role in oncology. A large variety of computed tomography (CT) scanners, scan protocols, and acquisition techniques have led to a wide range in image quality and radiation exposure. This study aims at implementing verifiable oncological imaging by quality assurance and optimization (i-Violin) through harmonizing image quality and radiation dose across Europe.

The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the need for respiratory protection against airborne pathogens. Respirator options for children are limited, and existing designs do not consider differences in facial shape or size. We created a dataset of children's facial images from three cohorts, then used geometric morphometric analyses of dense and sparse facial landmark representations to quantify age, sex and ancestry-related variation in shape.

Unsupervised learning, particularly clustering, plays a pivotal role in disease subtyping and patient stratification, especially with the abundance of large-scale multi-omics data. Deep learning models, such as variational autoencoders (VAEs), can enhance clustering algorithms by leveraging inter-individual heterogeneity. However, the impact of confounders-external factors unrelated to the condition, e.

Arithmetic ability is critical for daily life, academic achievement, career development, and future economic success. Individual differences in arithmetic skills among children and adolescents are related to variations in brain structures. Background: Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging has become a modality with superior power for the diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular diseases. One of the essential quality controls of CMR images is to investigate the complete cardiac coverage, which is necessary for the volumetric and functional assessment.
Purpose: This study examines the full cardiac coverage using a 3D dual-domain convolutional model and then improves this model using an innovative explainable salient region detection model and a recurrent architecture.

Intramural gastric pseudocysts are extremely rare and are often associated with pancreatitis and pancreatic pseudocysts; they can lead to complex clinical presentations requiring careful diagnosis and management. We present a case of a 57-year-old man with a history of pancreatitis and pancreatic pseudocysts who was diagnosed with intramural gastric pseudocysts. The patient was diagnosed with multiple gastric intramural pseudocysts at different locations during separate admissions and imaging studies.
