Background: Colon cancer is the second most common malignancy causing the majority of cancer-related deaths. B7-H3 concentrations have drawn major interest as possible diagnostic biomarkers of cancer. The aim of this study was to measure the preoperative serum B7-H3 levels and to determine those that are replaced in colon cancer.

Comprehensive natural radioactivity and pollution risk assessments of aquatic media and sediment in Lake Van (Türkiye).

This paper studies the radionuclide (Cs, Ra, Th, K) activity concentrations and gross radioactivities in waters and sediments of Lake Van, which is the third largest closed lake (with no natural or artificial outlet) within the Earth. The physico-chemical parameters were measured and evaluated in the lake waters. The mean gross α activities in surface, middle and bottom waters are 0.

Prognostic Significance of Hemoglobin/Prognostic Nutritional Index and Hemoglobin/Red Blood Cell Distribution in Rectal Cancer.

Background: We aimed to investigate the effect of hemoglobin/prognostic nutritional index and hemoglobin/red blood cell distribution, which are indicators of inflammation and nutrition, on prognosis and survival in patients with rectal cancer.

Methods: The retrospective study reviewed medical records of 138 patients with rectal cancer who were followed up between 2010 and 2021. The effects of hemoglobin/red blood cell distribution, hemoglobin/prognostic nutritional index, tumor stage, and lymph node status on survival and prognosis were evaluated using univariate and multivariate analyses.

Efficacy and safety of folfiri plus aflibercept in second-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer: Real-life data from Turkish oncology group.

Aims: The addition of aflibercept to the fluorouracil and irinotecan (FOLFIRI) regimen significantly improved clinical outcomes in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) previously treated with oxaliplatin. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of second-line FOLFIRI and aflibercept combination in patients with metastatic CRC in real-life experience.

Materials And Methods: Four hundred and thirty-three patients who treated with FOLFIRI and aflibercept in the second-line were included in the study.

Background: We aimed to investigate the prevalence of species detected in humans and calves in the Van region of Turkey.

Methods: A total of 150 patients, comprising 60 who were immunosup-pressed, 50 who were immunosuppressed and had diarrhea, and 40 who had only diarrhea, were enrolled in this study in the Department of Medical Parasitology, Van Yuzuncu Yıl University Faculty of Medicine, Turkey. Stool samples were taken from the rectums of a total of 50 calves that had 30 diarrhea and 20 that did not have diarrhea, from the stables and farms of 10 central villages of Van, Turkey.

A combination of omega-3 and exercise reduces experimental Achilles tendinopathy induced with a type-1 collagenase in rats.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of omega-3 supplementation with exercise in a collagenase-induced Achilles tendinopathy (AT) rat model. Experimental groups (healthy control (HC), AT, exercise (Ex), omega-3 (W), and Ex+W) were randomly allocated. After a week of adaptation, oral omega-3 was initiated for 8 weeks (5 days/week).

Objective: The current study provides training to parents and teachers about pediculosis in schools in three villages in Adana to measure their knowledge level by conducting surveys and to determine the prevalence of pediculosis in these foci.

Methods: Pre- and post-questionnaires including 30 questions about pediculosis were handed to parents and teachers. The answers were analyzed with the Pearson correlation analysis.

Background And Aims: Gaucher disease (GD) is caused by a genetic deficiency of the beta-glucocerebrosidase enzyme which results in the accumulation of glucosylceramide in macrophages. This accumulation may induce oxidative stress, resulting in DNA damage in patients with GD. The aim of this study was to assess plasma 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels and cytokinesis-block micronucleus cytome (CBMN-cyt) assay parameters in the peripheral blood lymphocytes of patients with GD and carriers, evaluate the possible associations of these values with GD, and determine whether they can be used as potential biomarkers in GD.

A Rare Central Nervous System Involvement Due to CTLA-4 Gene Defect.

Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) haploinsufficiency is the defect of one of the checkpoint inhibitory molecules and defined as a primary immunodeficiency characterized by immune dysregulation. A 26-year-old female with a history of autoimmune hemolytic anemia, autoimmune thrombocytopenia, and hypogammaglobulinemia was admitted with an inability to walk, urinary hesitancy, and bowel incontinence.
