Background: Although laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) is considered to be minimally invasive compared with open appendectomy (OA), there are few studies showing this in terms of cytokines and oxidative stress markers.

Aim: LA and OA techniques have been compared in terms of different conditions such as operation time and complication rate. Here, we compared how oxidative DNA damage and some cytokines levels change in relation to LA and OA.

Article Synopsis
  • The COVID-19 pandemic is a significant public health concern, with rapidly evolving knowledge on its epidemiology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention being reviewed by experts from the Turkish Thoracic Society.
  • Key findings indicate high genetic similarity to other coronaviruses like SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, with common symptoms including fever and cough, and severe cases often occurring in patients with pre-existing health issues such as cardiovascular diseases.
  • Various treatment options, including chloroquine and protease inhibitors, show promise in managing COVID-19, but ongoing research continues to be crucial for understanding the virus’s transmission and effective treatment strategies.

In recent years, because of its significant biological roles, the usage of boron has been started in animal feeding. In this research, it was aimed to investigate the ulexite's action mechanism on the zebrafish brain with an evaluation of the oxidative parameters. The adult zebrafish were exposed to four ulexite doses (5, 10, 20, and 40 mg/l) in a static test apparatus for 96 h.

Inhibition of microglial activation using phytochemicals may be a potential candidate for the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases caused by neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. The goal of this study was to investigate the protective role of Biochanin A on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated BV2 microglial cells. BV2 microglial cells were treated with LPS in the presence and absence of Biochanin A.

Persistent Truncus Arteriosus is a cyanotic congenital heart anomaly in which a single trunk supplies both the pulmonary and systemic circulation, instead of a separate aorta and a pulmonary trunk. It is usually classified as a conotruncal anomaly. Due to parallel fetal circulation, truncus arteriosus does not cause any haemodynamic problem in utero.

Background Urine amino acid analysis is used for the assessment of various diseases. The aim of this study was to estimate the valid biological variation (BV) components (within- and between-subjects) required for the safe clinical application of free urine amino acids. Methods First morning void urine samples were taken from 12 healthy subjects (five females, seven males) once a week for 10 consecutive weeks, and amino acid analysis was performed using an Agilent 6470 triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer instrument.

Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Erzincan University, Erzincan, Turkey.

In this study, we aimed to show the effect of adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) on sunitinib-induced cardiac injury in rats. The rats ( = 30) were divided equally into three groups as sunitinib group (SG), sunitinib plus ATP group (SAG), and healthy group (HG); 2 mg/kg ATP was injected intraperitoneally (ip) to the SAG group. Same volume normal saline as solvent was administered ip to the other two groups.

Glanzmann's thrombasthenia (GT) is an autosomal recessive disorder in which the underlying problem is the lack or dysfunction of the GpIIb/IIIa receptor on the platelet surface. The present study determines the genetic mutation typology and analyzes the association between mutation types and clinical findings in patients diagnosed with GT who were followed up in Department of Pediatric Hematology of the Yüzüncü Yıl University School of Medicine. The medical charts of 17 patients who underwent therapy and that were followed up in the Department of Pediatric Hematology of the Yüzüncü Yıl University Dursun Odabaş Medical Center between January 2008 and April 2018 were reviewed retrospectively.
