Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) with the clinical and pathological parameters of 118 laryngeal cancer patients, as well as their effects on the survival of the disease.
Methods: For the calculation of SII, PLR, and NLR, hemogram tests were conducted before treatment. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to calculate the cut-off value of SII, NLR, and PLR for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS).

Background: The role of biomarkers for prognostication and diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE) is increasing. It has been reported that pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) can be used as a proatherosclerotic marker. The present study was aimed to evaluate whether PAPP-A levels are helpful in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with suspected PE.

The angle towards the lateral side between the arm and forearm when the forearm is in full extension and supination is defined as the carrying angle. It is well known that the 2nd finger is longer in women whereas the 4th finger is longer in men, due to in-utero hormonal effects. In the present study, the relationship between the carrying angle and the distal extent of the 2nd and 4th fingertips is studied.

Background: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV). Nuclear factor (NF)-κB regulates the expression of hundreds of genes, including inflammatory and immunoregulatory, cell cycle regulating, and anti-apoptotic genes. NF-κBIA (IκBα) encodes an inhibitory version of the NF-κB proteins.

Objective: To determine the risk of clinical cardiovascular disease in middle-aged patients with Behcet's syndrome (BS) compared with gender-matched non-BS subjects.
Methods: The prevalence of angina, myocardial infarction (MI), doctor diagnosed ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and intermittent claudication were sought by the Rose Angina Questionnaire in 225 (141 M/84 F) BS patients (mean age: 52 +/- 8) with BS and 117 (74 M/43 F) controls (mean age: 50 +/- 5). Information on atherosclerotic risk factors was also collected.

Objective: To determine if use of cell proliferation, cell adhesion, level of angiogenesis-related factors and presence of microscopic vascular invasion (MVI) could better predict the biological behaviour of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), which has a widely variable clinical outcome despite the use of conventional prognostic factors (staging and grading).
Materials And Methods: The expression of Ki-67, CD44H and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were assessed immunohistochemically in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues from 48 RCCs, using a Ki-67 labelling index (LI), CD44 LI and level of VEGF expression, respectively. In addition all the pathological slides were reviewed retrospectively for the presence and absence of MVI.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections are among the most devastating health problems in the world, including Turkey. The route of transmission of HBV and HCV is mainly parenteral, a small number of epidemiological studies demonstrating that perinatal, sexual, household and occupational transmission occurs. Contact of a patient's blood or bodily fluids with non-intact skin is another mode of HBV and HCV transmission.

A family with cardiac malformation, cleft lip-palate, short stature, microcephaly, distally placed thumbs, short 2nd and 5th fingers, long and broad 1st toes, broad distance between 1st and 2nd toes and mediodorsal curvature of the 4th toes with syndactyly of the 2nd and 3rd toes has been described as having a new syndrome. While some members of the family had full signs of the syndrome, others had similar but fewer and less severe anomalies of the same structures. The presence of common findings in three generations, its variable expressivity and pleiotropism, and the non-consanguineous history in the parents suggest that the inheritance is autosomal dominant.
